#1 the casting of the Queen & Charles = Dreadful ! #2 the writing #3 the soundtrack : last season had some magical moments including early 80's songs that Diana loved. This season was dreary, lacked oomph, color, magic, bad casting choices, horrible writing, the difference in quality from season 4 to season 5 is jarring and will be remembered in television history.

I have watched the first two eps of season 5 and it's not been exciting. Do they really believe they want to watch 30 minutes of screen time of Prince Phillip's carriage-riding hobby. Fuck. I'd much rather watch Fergie, who is completely sidelined.

A bit too much stunt casting.
It was also lazy in focusing on the now deceased members of the family who cannot sue.
| by Anonymous | reply 2 | November 26, 2022 1:35 AM |
Good! Maybe they will cancel this drivel!
| by Anonymous | reply 3 | November 26, 2022 1:38 AM |
Yeah, its pretty dull. The casting sucks and so does the storytelling. Nothing like the first 2 seasons.
| by Anonymous | reply 4 | November 26, 2022 1:39 AM |
I couldn’t make it past the third episode. It’s so boring.
| by Anonymous | reply 5 | November 26, 2022 1:41 AM |
R3 me too, I hope they cancel it after season 6!
| by Anonymous | reply 6 | November 26, 2022 2:41 AM |
I've never understood why the Queen Mother was sidelined, she was integral to the reign of Queen Elizabeth for almost five decades.
She's been a glorified extra all of the way through.

Most series peak at Season 3. Why should this series be the exception?
| by Anonymous | reply 8 | November 26, 2022 3:31 AM |
Why is this greyed out? Is DL full of Netflix executives?
| by Anonymous | reply 9 | November 26, 2022 4:03 AM |
Imelda Staunton was a real disappoint I thought.
| by Anonymous | reply 10 | November 26, 2022 4:05 AM |
5 seasons and hundreds of millions of dollars spent on a show about a plain-lloking family that largely just functions as tourist attractions and gossip column fodder. Cancel this show already!
| by Anonymous | reply 11 | November 26, 2022 4:11 AM |
Wasn’t this the period when Edward was gaying it up? Couldn’t we have had some shirtless man sex scenes?
| by Anonymous | reply 12 | November 26, 2022 4:25 AM |
I'm enjoying it. It's beautifully shot and the writing remains high caliber, but the miscasting especially of Staunton and West is pretty jarring. Staunton would've worked better as the Queen Mum. And whoever is playing Margaret has made her dull as dishwater.

The Russian episode was the only one I watched, and it was ridiculous. The Russian royals were portrayed as Boris and Natasha Russians (they were Danish-German, and spoke English and French in private); Yelstin was portrayed as a snarky buffoon who despised the Queen, etc etc.
| by Anonymous | reply 14 | November 26, 2022 4:33 AM |
The actor playing Yeltsin was doing a caricature, I'll give you that. I did laugh when he started talking shit about the palace in Russian in earshot of the queen.
| by Anonymous | reply 15 | November 26, 2022 4:38 AM |
I'm not usually bothered by the whole OMG She Didn't LOOK EXACTLY LIKE THAT, but I really found the Queen Mother jarring. All I though was who is this crazy old bitch wandering around the palace dressed like the Queen? Is this another break-in episode?
| by Anonymous | reply 16 | November 26, 2022 5:09 AM |
They may have stretched things on the Russia episode, and I had to fast forward through the killing scene, but still, it was interesting. I do remember reading a thing from Gore Vidal pretty much saying that exact scene happened, with Queen Mary giving the final doom, but who knows. Maybe that was exaggerated. But maybe not.

And since I'm now just talking to myself here, I will say, there was reason for nervousness. Three ancient thrones collapsed after the War, they were the losers ultimately, but still, there was not guarantee for the British throne. From their perspective there were definitely dangerous forces abroad and one of those forces could have knocked them right off.
I do wish somehow the Russian Royal family had made it to the U.S. We cared, but we kind of didn't. There were a lot of people that would have been unhappy with all that monarchy and all of it, but in the end, the U.S. would have proven to be a safe haven. And before long our hostesses and our high society would have been delighted with all of it. Absolutely delighted, whatever democratic beliefs everybody pretends to hold, we know how crazy we can get about royalty.

I'm actually liking it. It's not my favorite season, but it's keeping my interest.
(And I think I'm the only person on the planet who really enjoyed the Dodi episode. So what do I know?)

Was the Claire Foy scene at the start of episode 1 leveraged from her seasons, or was that new footage in which she made a cameo? The Vanessa Kirby scenes were obviously taken from her seasons. They only served to remind me how miscast Elizabeth and Margaret were this go around.

Dear Imelda is hideous.
THAT'S what matters most with this piece of shit.
| by Anonymous | reply 21 | November 26, 2022 3:15 PM |
Imelda's a very good actress but all wrong physically for the part. Same with Dominic West. WTF were they thinking?
| by Anonymous | reply 22 | November 26, 2022 3:36 PM |
I think the biggest problem with s05 is they ran out of real world events. I knew they were scraping the bottom of the barrel when they spent time on Philip's carriage riding. The casting was the second biggest problem. The Australian who played Diana had very fake sounding cut-glass English accent and it kept distracting me. I could go on. I'm hoping they learn from this misfire and season 6 is great.
| by Anonymous | reply 23 | November 26, 2022 4:34 PM |
Given Claire Foy was so absolutely perfect, I wonder if they're now thinking: we should have just smothered her in latex.

Season 4 (with the marvelous Jillian Anderson playing the "Iron Lady") will be considered the finest season for this show.
| by Anonymous | reply 25 | November 28, 2022 10:05 AM |
I loved season 5 for the reason that the actress playing Diana was sensational. She carried the show and I was gripped by most of her scenes. I assume s6 will be the same.

They should replace that horrific actor playing Charles for the final season.
If it's the same actor, I will NOT be watching
| by Anonymous | reply 27 | November 28, 2022 9:07 PM |
Dominic West is a very good actor, but he comes across as very dominant and very alpha, which is not a bad thing, but that's not Charles, and he was totally miscast. More of a misfire than Imelda IMO.
| by Anonymous | reply 28 | November 28, 2022 9:11 PM |
You had me at dominant and alpha, R28.
| by Anonymous | reply 29 | November 28, 2022 9:48 PM |
The actress playing Diana was awful. She basically had one facial expression...wistful. And the way she kept tilting her head to the side to convey emotion was distracting as fuck. And could they have gotten a less attractive guy to play her Paki doctor bf? He was ugly and out of shape, and they had no spark at all. I didn't mind Imelda too much. The actress playing Princess Ann was good casting, but she didn't have very much to do.

I just finished watching season 5. I liked it very much. The writing is very good. Every character was sympathetic and human.

The Crown doesn't matter. There will be an additional season of "The WIndsors"
A fourth series is scheduled for 2023, including a Coronation special episode.
𝑇ℎ𝑎𝑡 matters.

Imelda Staunton was too perky and smiley to play QEII
| by Anonymous | reply 34 | March 19, 2023 10:34 AM |
R33. The Windsors is full-blown parody. I've only seen parts but it reminded me of Benidorm in styling.
The Crown is pseudo-historical drama.
