Who Was the Best Ewing Oil Secretary?

I'm watching Dallas reruns on Amazon Prime.

J.R. and Bobby went through a handful of secretaries over the years at Ewing Oil

I always think that Connie left because she was in love with Bobby. Phyllis was too, of course, but she stayed.

Phyllis. Not only was she loyal to Bobby, she also got to tell J.R. off at the end.

Sly, just because of her 80s nickname.

She was one of those actresses in those bizarre recurring secondary parts (like the woman who played Maria, the Southfork maid) that got work forever because the show lasted so long, even though they never did anything.

I once sat on an airplane next to a woman who started to talk to me and revealed her daughter had played the regular hostess at the Cattleman's Club for every scene there on "Dallas" since the show began, and as a result she had received regular pay for years and years and years.

R2, was the woman Black?

The regular hostess at the Cattleman's Club was Dora Mae. There was a white woman named Cassie who worked there a lot, too.

Sly did get one storyline; Cliff Barnes blackmailed her b/c Sly's brother was in jail and Cliff LIED that he had influence with the parole board. JR figured out she was spying; why'd you do it Sly? and she confessed; he FORGAVE HER (!) and together, they worked at feeding Cliff wrong info (serves him right).

Others had beats; JR slept with Louella; Julie Grey betrayed the Ewings to Cliff and then was killed by Jeb and Willie Joe (two good old boys!), Connie got to kiss Bobby once on the cheek; Pam saw the lip marks. Phyllis got to sob when Bobby was 'killed'.

There was a funny beat after JR fired Louella (and forgot about it) and went oh, yeah after Phyllis reminded him; he asked HER if she wanted to be his secretary and her reaction was ............ummmmmmm well, I kind of know how Bobby likes things.... that's when we got Sly.

I watched that tell-off scene Phyllis had with JR in the last season!

Nice that they gave her that tour-de-force!
