Do these people need our help getting richer? Trying to understand who buys Rihanna's Fenty Beauty or Bieber's Drew clothing line. Clooney's Casamiga tequila. Altho I did try Post Malone's Maison No. 9 rose and it was delightful.

Young women of color love Fenty.

Everyone, whether they know it or not.

I pretty much avoid anything celebs shill but sometimes they are very sneaky about it and it is hard to know.
| by Anonymous | reply 4 | August 24, 2021 4:57 PM |
Lots of people buy Fenty, OP. That brand was the first to have an inclusive shade range instead of just focusing on white people like most make-up brands do.

Not if I can help it. I’m not programmed.

I paid 200 bucks for a bottle of Sting’s wine for my birthday. It was good but not great.

I had no idea Diana Ross had pantyhose back in the day!! Fascinating!
| by Anonymous | reply 9 | August 25, 2021 5:57 PM |
Why don't celebs ever shill something useful like light bulbs or tires?

Does Beyonce sell anything now? I know she and Tina used to have that House of Diarrhea clothing line...

My friends mom swears by Eva Gabor wigs.
| by Anonymous | reply 12 | August 25, 2021 6:00 PM |
Great question, OP.
I actively avoid buying celebrity branded products, because I grew up in the era of Cher, George Foreman, Liz Taylor, and Cindy Crawford hawking shit. I immediately associate celebrity products with cheap and inferior.
However, I will admit that I have found products I like via Goop.

M by Mariah Carey Eau de Parfum Spray is ranked as the worst celebrity fragrance. One reader exclaims, "Ew!" Another says it is "the nastiest, cheapest smelling perfume you have ever smelled." One woman says, "This is the worst smelling perfume ever! When I smelled it, I literally gagged! This is a horrible perfume and smells worse than the old lady perfume I call Ralph Lauren." One reader says, "I am a huge Mariah fan, so I had high hopes for this one. When I tried it, it smelled overwhelmingly sweet, but not in a good way. It is a strong burnt marshmallow-smelling fragrance."

I love my Kenny Rodgers western shirts. They keep me looking snappy and svelte in satin and snaps.

We can now add Kristen to the list. She has a cbd skincare line called Happy Dance 🙄

I buy the Fenty skin products. I like Rihanna a lot and bought the set on a whim on vacation and I ended up liking them a lot. Especially the way they smell.
| by Anonymous | reply 22 | August 27, 2021 4:39 PM |
I wasn't really impressed with Fenty Skin. Rihanna claims to have sensitive skin, if that were true she wouldn't have put fragrance in them.
| by Anonymous | reply 23 | August 27, 2021 4:41 PM |
I would never buy anything from most celebs. Esp that great unwashed Kristin Bell.

R21 tbf SJP has put out some of the most beloved and universally-excellent frags of any celebs. Perfume casuals and obsessives alike have all raved about LOVELY, COVET, NYC, & STASH for over a decade now. For some reason, Parker’s people just know how to put an interesting yet wearable and delightful scent.
| by Anonymous | reply 25 | August 27, 2021 7:49 PM |
The Good Place was so full of fart and poop jokes, I wouldn't dare associate Kristin with anything tasteful. She's so pretty, but her life choices say so much.

If the quality is there and they use/wear their own crap that is a better message than Jaclyn Smith polyester wear at Kmart. You know she would.nwver really wear that stuff.

A friend who eats well/healthy food raves about the G. Foreman grill. And my friend doesn't fuck around with third-rate stuff; it takes a lot to impress him. By the way, it's been a good while now, but I have some memory that the company wanted Foreman to be a typical celeb endorser, but he took a chance, did a deal to get a cut of the profit and made huge money.

Anyone buy the cosmetics peddled by Dr. Phil's wife? Forgets to tell us her skin is thanks to plastic surgery.
| by Anonymous | reply 32 | August 28, 2021 2:53 PM |
You don't hire a celebrity to endorse your product believing the endorsement itself will drive sales.
You hire a celebrity because of a quirk in the human brain: our eyes are instinctively drawn to a familiar face. So if Zsa Zsa is up there on a big billboard flogging her wigs, you're going to look at it whether you want to or not, and see not just Zsa Zsa but the wigs as well.

R32 that goes without saying. Her face has been a mess for years.

About the only celebrity-owned products I buy are wine and liquor; based on reviews/ratings/personal tasting without any regard to the celebrity.
Casamigos tequila is actually quite good, especially the blanco and anejo. They are slightly overpriced, but not terribly so. The reposado is a bit too sweet and vanilla-forward and the mezcal is very polarizing (smoky/petrol to the extreme).
Bon Jovi's rose wine, despite the terrible name (Diving Into Hampton Water) is excellent. The Jolie-Pitt wines of Chateau Miraval are also solid. Randy Lewis of Lewis Cellars (former Indy race car driver) produces world-class wines (frequently in Wine Spectator's yearly Top 100, and #1 in 2016). Kurt Russell's GoGi wines are also pretty good.
I've never purchased a celebrity fragrance or cosmetic, but I did buy a pair of Rihanna's Fenty Puma shoes a couple of years ago. I'll never buy anything Kardashian, Jenner or Kanye.
| by Anonymous | reply 35 | August 28, 2021 3:52 PM |
Anything Kardashian or Kardashian-adjacent (ex. Travis Scott's hard seltzer) is a hard pass. No one in that family or in their orbit needs any more money or exposure.

I have some Martha Stewart but I'm not sure that counts since she's famous for making things and not shilling things that are totally unrelated to the talent that made her famous (rihanna, etc.).
Martha's dutch oven is as good as my le creseut for less than half the price.

The Lord guides me to endorse! Check out my range of clothing, bibles, journals, books, children's books, and cookware!
I also promote Dr Lancer, tuna, dog food and anything other wholesome things that will earn me a buck! Wealthiness is next to Godliness!

R35 have you tried Dan Aykroyd's skull vodka?
| by Anonymous | reply 40 | August 28, 2021 4:38 PM |
I didn't even know Crystal Head was owned by Akroyd! I haven't tried it as I'm not a big vodka drinker. I usually just buy Tito's because it is smooth and 1.75L are cheap at Costco. I do like Ciroc vodka, despite the Puff Daddy connection.

Kathy Ireland!! Now that's a name I had completely forgotten. Lol

Fenty is good. Hey, nobody else was bothering with an inclusive color range. I agree about the fragrance - it shouldn't be in there. I had a George Foreman grill. Had it for a few years then got rid of it. The clean up was a pain. No worse than an air fryer but I didn't want to be bothered any more. I would also tout Martha Stewart.
Michelle Pfeiffer has a line of perfumes under the name "Henry Rose". They are described as not 100% natural but 100% safe. The ingredient list is transparent. They also smell great. Another thing I like about it is the webpage has a landing page for each scent in the line and the page includes the names of the professionals who actually developed it.

PS for a long time the Natural Balance line was a great dog food line developed by Dick Van Patton. I think it's now been sold and probably the quality has degraded.

I know Iman has a make-up line. But obviously she wouldn't have the same outreach as Rihanna.
| by Anonymous | reply 50 | August 28, 2021 6:59 PM |
Iman has big distribution, but it is now mostly a drugstore/discount brand (Walgreens, Walmart, Target) whereas Fenty is slightly more upmarket (Sephora, Kohl's, etc.).
Fashion Fair was the first major black-owned/targeted prestige cosmetics brand (started in the1970s) and was sold in thousands of department stores. They were part of Johnson Publishing (Ebony/Jet magazines). Fashion Fair went bankrupt and few years ago and is being relaunched at Sephora.

Someone just gave me the Bon Jovi rosé as a gift, and I did a secret eyeroll, glad to hear it's good. And I concur with r37, my Martha Stewart Dutch oven is just as nice, much lower priced and way prettier than the Le Creuset version.
