The role famously an Oscar contender in 1985, Jess made it her own. The movie took a few liberties and was criticised by the Cline Clan.
What are your opinions of her performance and the movie in general. Perhaps wisely, Jessica didn't do any signing but did a great job lip-synching as no-one can replicate the great voice of Ms. Cline who died way too soon in 1963 at age 30.
Meryl was of course dying for this role but was refused for Lange. Was it the best decision? Meryl has been terribly complimentary over the years about her performance.

D'Angelo gave Cline an almost otherworldly quality. Lange was like a PTA mother. Jessica is obviously a much great star than D'Angelo but it was Beverly who projected it as Cline.
