When I was a kid and my parents took us out to a restaurant, I'd always eat a hamburger.

My first non-hamburger restaurant meal was at a Hot Shoppe in Arlington VA in 1963. I ordered the chopped sirloin steak.

When I asked my dad if he was proud of me for ordering something different, he said I had basically ordered a hamburger without a bun.

They went to the Hot Shoppe. Chris ate a salad while Regan had soup, two rolls, fried chicken, a strawberry shake, and blueberry pie with coffee ice cream. Where does she put it, Chris wondered fondly. In her wrists? The child was slender as a fleeting hope.

How the fuck is the bacon wrapped filet mignon cheaper than the Salisbury steak?

Filet Mignon wrapped in bacon with french fries for .85 cents. No wonder taxes are so high if government workers can afford to eat that well.

Salisbury steak is 10 cents cheaper than filet mignon.

R6: Salisbury steak is probably a bigger portion.

The steak was flown in all the way from Salisbury, England.

I like my Salisbury plain.

I'm intrigued by that burgundy cherry ice cream cake.🧐

R6 - we’re both wrong: chopped steak & bacon wrapped filet are both 50 cents.

Chicken a la King is 70 cents - again WTF?

Chicken was more expensive than it is today. My mom was a child in the 40s and she remembered only having chicken on special occasions.

How I miss the Hot Shoppes.
