When they were together in public it was like they were strangers. He seemed extremely gay and extremely odd.

He was her Mother's doctor.
| by Anonymous | reply 4 | April 17, 2022 3:14 AM |
This Tyler is a Mary... So is this who you are talking about?
Offsite Link| by Anonymous | reply 5 | April 17, 2022 3:15 AM |
It's different with famous women. First you marry to have someone to leave town over. The second marriage is for career advancement and making money. A jew is ok, but he should be toilet trained and handsome. A female stars third husband MUST be younger and GAY. A walker or a doctor.
| by Anonymous | reply 6 | April 17, 2022 3:17 AM |
MTM had no living realities by the time she died, so her husband probably inherited her entire estate
| by Anonymous | reply 8 | April 17, 2022 3:20 AM |
Mary with her third husband, Robert Levine.

He put in his time...he deserves everything. He was a nerdy and cute young thing when he gave up his life to be the companion of an old lady.
| by Anonymous | reply 11 | April 17, 2022 3:23 AM |
Tytler The Creator's gay? He's kind of cute. He wasn't going out with Mary Tyler, was he?
| by Anonymous | reply 12 | April 17, 2022 3:24 AM |
He was handsome back in the day. 15 years younger than Mary.
Offsite Link| by Anonymous | reply 13 | April 17, 2022 3:26 AM |
He looks a little light in the loafers here.
Offsite Link| by Anonymous | reply 14 | April 17, 2022 3:26 AM |
If Mary can find a handsome cardiologist, why can't my girls?
| by Anonymous | reply 15 | April 17, 2022 3:29 AM |
If you cover MTM's big smile with your hand - in most photos you will notice that she mostly looks scared or unhappy. She wasn't a lot of fun, that one.
It's the simplest of tricks we learned long ago. Cover up the smile on magazine covers or movie star posed photos with your hand and see what's really going on with their expression.
| by Anonymous | reply 16 | April 17, 2022 3:30 AM |
I read they had a 10 year age difference, that’s certainly not that huge of an age gap, R11.
| by Anonymous | reply 17 | April 17, 2022 3:30 AM |
I have a brain tumour. Most of his pics are really weird. He seems to be a woman in a man's body.
| by Anonymous | reply 18 | April 17, 2022 3:32 AM |
R17 Nope, he was 15 years younger than her.
| by Anonymous | reply 19 | April 17, 2022 3:32 AM |
R 17 it was more than 10 yrs
| by Anonymous | reply 20 | April 17, 2022 3:33 AM |
She was old enough to be his unwed teenage mother. Gross!
| by Anonymous | reply 21 | April 17, 2022 3:34 AM |
He looks more like her son than her husband. But they were together for 34 years, so he definitely put in his time with her.
| by Anonymous | reply 22 | April 17, 2022 3:42 AM |
I wonder if he introduced her to conservative politics.
| by Anonymous | reply 26 | April 17, 2022 4:08 AM |
You read my mind, r26. MTM liked Bill O'Reilly.
| by Anonymous | reply 27 | April 17, 2022 4:13 AM |
r14 He looks like Tommy Tune.
| by Anonymous | reply 28 | April 17, 2022 4:16 AM |
Wow, r25, you never see Mary with a cigarette.
| by Anonymous | reply 29 | April 17, 2022 4:18 AM |
Mary was a lifelong drunk and smoker. Terrible health problems. A cold perspective and a woman hardened by a lot of loss. IRL she had the short temper and irritability of the chronically ill. That's not her fault. She just wasn't who the public imagined her to be. Her husband looks like Bob Saget.
| by Anonymous | reply 30 | April 17, 2022 4:24 AM |
R30, I read MTM's autobiography quite a while go and what I remember is how sad she seemed throughout
| by Anonymous | reply 31 | April 17, 2022 4:26 AM |
I met them once. Nice guy. Very devoted.
| by Anonymous | reply 32 | April 17, 2022 4:27 AM |
It sounds like the husband could take a nothing day and make it all seem worthwhile.
| by Anonymous | reply 33 | April 17, 2022 4:28 AM |
He must have liked Mary's "spunk" 🙄
| by Anonymous | reply 34 | April 17, 2022 4:32 AM |
Watch her on Dick Cavett, r31. She's not unpleasant, but she's measured and guarded.
| by Anonymous | reply 35 | April 17, 2022 4:42 AM |
MTM had the most fun on Letterman. He was once a stock player on her variety show. He knew how to make her laugh and she came on his how with the attitude of let's have fun. He obviously respected her and she felt safe there. Like Lucy, she wasn't funny. Unlike Lucy - she had a great sense of humor.
Why would anyone call her a c*nt, R36? That word is used way too often on this site. By mean old fags who've never had any love in life.
Nobody hated Mary Tyler Moore, except maybe her son. I bet you can relate R36.
| by Anonymous | reply 37 | April 17, 2022 4:48 AM |
No, r36, but not Mary Richards...at all.
| by Anonymous | reply 38 | April 17, 2022 4:51 AM |
R14- LOL
He looks quite a bit HOMOSEXUAL in that photo.
| by Anonymous | reply 40 | April 17, 2022 4:56 AM |
A comment she made after her son's suicide bothered me - but now I can't remember it verbatim. Something like - you give them everything they want and it's never enough - like he was too spoiled or something like that. It made me wonder if her character in Ordinary People somehow reflects her real life mother-son situation.
| by Anonymous | reply 41 | April 17, 2022 4:59 AM |
Mary once revealed that during her marriage to Grant Tinker, they never saw each other naked.
| by Anonymous | reply 42 | April 17, 2022 5:01 AM |
What did Mary think of her films Six Weeks and Just Between Friends?
| by Anonymous | reply 43 | April 17, 2022 5:02 AM |
There were numerous calls made to the police in the latter years of her third marriage.
Mary and Robert often fought in her final days and she would call the police to report him, both in NYC and when they were at their CT home.
I'm sure her failing health played a part in this, a caregiver's life is not a pleasant one.
| by Anonymous | reply 44 | April 17, 2022 5:07 AM |
Was it a suicide or an accidental gunshot? Some sources online say suicide, others say accident.
| by Anonymous | reply 45 | April 17, 2022 5:16 AM |
[quote] She was old enough to be his unwed teenage mother. Gross!

| by Anonymous | reply 46 | April 17, 2022 5:17 AM |
It was suicide. Just like my son.
| by Anonymous | reply 47 | April 17, 2022 5:19 AM |
So many celebrities lost sons under 30 (most to suicide I think) - Judy Collins, Lena Horne, Lisa Marie Presley, Jerry Lacy and Julia Duffy, Paul Newman, Carroll O'Connor, Bobby Brown (1 son, 1 daughter), Melissa Etheridge, Marie Osmond, Sinead O'Connor, Jane Badler, Anna Nicole Smith, Dr Dre, Sylvester Stallone (his son was 36) - wonder if it's statistically more likely for celebs' kids, esp sons, to die young. Must be such a weird life, in the shadow of a "star" parent.
| by Anonymous | reply 49 | April 17, 2022 5:29 AM |
R44 she had a brain tumour at that point and was nuts. He was extremely gay which is fine but he seemed more like her caretaker than even a friend.
| by Anonymous | reply 50 | April 17, 2022 5:33 AM |
Well, she still did better than Martha Raye.
| by Anonymous | reply 51 | April 17, 2022 5:38 AM |
There are other conclusions to make R49. It's all sad regardless. Cher is lucky that Chastity didn't kill herself. Because Cher was also an absent parent, selfish egotist who rejected her own child. She was ashamed of her daughter's sexuality. I believe that Paul and Joanne Newman were pretty good parents and not too removed from their children. Drugs happen. Some people shouldn't be parents. Lots of stars were knocked up really young. Besides - let's not blame only the mothers. MTM was pretty tightly wound though.
Carol Burnett had problems that she blasted over magazine covers. Rather than be accused of being neglectful - she outed and embarrassed her own child to make herself appear "loving." Bad parenting from another attractive, loveless but professionally successful marriage. Carol also married a GAY man for her final companion.
People make fun of CZJ on this site, but she and Michael Douglas made family life and their children's safe raising more a priority than their career. They all lived in Bermuda, far from Instagram or red carpets. And they were there for them. Michael Douglas learned the hard way.
I doubt that MTM saw her son's death as more tragic than her own fate.

(You can add Charles Boyer, R49. His son committed suicide at age 21.)
| by Anonymous | reply 53 | April 17, 2022 5:53 AM |
R52, Joanne Woodward admitted that there was much strife between her and Paul's children from his first marriage.

What about Rob and Laura's son Richie? Every time he entered the room he was told to get lost. The poor kid hardly ever participated in the seemingly fun life of the Petries.

R53, You can also add Jennifer Jones, Gregory Peck, Art Linkletter, Angie Dickinson and Mercedes McCambridge.

He was even attacked by a woodpecker, r55.
| by Anonymous | reply 57 | April 17, 2022 6:22 AM |
R55, Larry Matthews was a horrible child actor.
| by Anonymous | reply 58 | April 17, 2022 6:23 AM |
Louis Jourran’s son also committed suicide. Dinah Manoff’s son Dashiell Mortell died young, 19ish, but in a car accident, not by suicide.

Mary told Barbara that the muscles used to smile were easier to use than the ones to frown. So she liked to smile. She also said that she wasn't much of a mother and that she thought she would do it better now. (then) She said she hadn't screwed her son up too much, though they were not close.
She had no girlfriends. Was not close to anyone from the MTM show. Her husband Grant was her only intimate. She admitted to suffering deep depression - but not in a destructive way?
All this while smiling. She's both revealing and very self protective in this interview. What she truly reveals cannot be what she intended.

Yeah, the Petries should have stayed childless. They didn't seem to love their kid at all.
| by Anonymous | reply 62 | April 17, 2022 7:12 AM |
MTM seemed to fake her smile most of the time. I thought she was great on the DVD show and her own show, but she was playing a character.

Bernadette Peters was the only celebrity at MTM's funeral.
| by Anonymous | reply 68 | April 17, 2022 7:53 AM |
This is the guy she called the cops on, right? The police showed up and he pitched a little temper tantrum and drove off, if I recall.

R68 Bernadette Peters and MTM co-created Broadway Barks an annual event in Shubert Alley that has Broadway actors present adoptable pets from local shelters. Usually held every July, since Covid it’s been virtual. Hopefully they can go back to in person this year. Most of the actors show off dogs or puppies for adoption. Bebe Neuwirth always comes and shows a cat for adoption.
I volunteered at the event a few times and could see MTM getting frailer year by year. Sad to see. Bernadette Peters now has various co-hosts since Mary died.
I never met them face to face, I was just a background worker, helping with whatever was needed so I can’t answer anything about their personalities; I only saw them on the makeshift stage doing their hosting thing.
