name me another actor how did a high school play, a dinner club play, was sent out for some commercials and not getting them, with no training from a acting school, get a agent, powerful and connected enough to get him a audition to get a role in "losing it" or "taps".... "endless love" was a bit of luck that it was a small speaking role and he was in the right time and the right place as well as the same happening in "taps" because the original actor for his role was fired and cruise happen to be in the right place at the right time again. AFTER the success of risky business he could call his shots for sure, but still he was woefully inexperienced to have continued success until top gun truly made him a superstar where he has remained...
99.9% of male actors wouldn't get these early auditions, wouldn't get a powerful agent to get them these auditions and would have been told you need to bulk up your resume with plays and training and then i'll send you out for commercials and film roles, in fact, one would think that with his lack of success in the commercials he was sent out for and didn't get such a agent would have dropped him, they certainly wouldn't have had him audition for film roles one would think?!.
99% of male actors takes 10 years or so to have success as a working actor, nothing more.. cruise went from nobody to 3 years star and 3 years later superstar! granted his success from risky business to top gun had him deserving that success with top gun and thereafter, it's the 1980 to 1983 years from nobody to risky business stardom that is in question..
