Would this film even get made today? Who would star? Would sex scenes be more graphic?

Would it get made today? Probably not, at least not the way it was in 1982. Not enough car chases, explosions, and graphic violence to con the Chinese into paying for it.

Michael Ontkean was the sole reason for seeing this film....and the title tune.

Attended college with Michael at the University of New Hampshire. Played together, on and off the ice. Great guy and vastly underrated actor.

That Roberta Flack song is still heart-rending. Love it.

(R4) Thanks for posting this. Still as haunting as it was in 1982.

Kate Jackson was very, very good in this movie, and she probably would have been great in the supporting Meryl Streep role in Kramer vs Kramer, if Aaron Spelling had allowed her to do it. She was under contract with Charlie's Angels and he said NO.
SHe did win an Emmy for Angels, at least.

I love this movie. Ridiculously under-rated I feel and waaaaay ahead of its time. Have never really understood the hate this film gets from the gay community.

I wonder why the song wasn't nominated for an Oscar. Here were the nominees that year:
"Up Where We Belong" - An Officer and a Gentleman ---> WINNER
"Eye of the Tiger" - Rocky III
"How Do You Keep the Music Playing" - Best Friends
"If We Were in Love" - Yes, Giorgio
"It Might Be You" - Tootsie

Anything more graphic would've been unnecessary and tawdry in my opinion

R6, Kate didn’t win an Emmy.

There's some ominous foreshadowing with a sign in the background that said "AIDS".

Today it would be made for no budget and end up on Netflix in the gay queue. Gay movies are so bad nowadays.

Today it would be titled "Presenting Hole".

Michael Ontkean was so gorgeous back then. I wished he didn’t retire from acting and came back for the Twin Peaks revival.

Ontkean sure was pretty, but I thought Harry Hamlin was the sexier one

There was one scene where ominous music played and the camera focused on the Vaseline jar on the nightstand of his trick.
I wonder what that meant...

I must say the film and the song reinforced my impression that being a homosexual would be a sad existence.
