Most parents have some expectation/ standard for what they want their kids to develop into. Great grades, good at sports, religious, artistic and so on. And some parents put on a lot of pressure to make sure their kids meet those expectations. It seems that Madonna’s greatest priority was for her kids to be Outré! Weird! Rebellious! R164 I always thought the most hilarious aspect of the buying-black/brown-babies trend was that the buyers usually lived in L.A., where there were plenty of local black/brown babies that needed help, but that wasn't as glam as buying from Malawi (from a P.R. point of view). Also, you thought that if any of them had ever watched Ab Fab they should have known that everyone thought they were ridiculous.

Yes, it was quite fashionable back in the day to adopt an African child. There was some bit on a comedy show (The Daily Show, maybe?) that showed one of it's female players (Samantha Bee?) picking out an African child to adopt like she was picking out a new handbag "that one's too dark, that one's too puny..." I thought it was pretty funny. But I think there was some backlash about it being in bad taste. Bad taste? It was spot on!

She was looking for a baby daddy but she didn't "advertise" for one. She was dating several men around the time including Dennis Rodman whom she considered as a possible sperm donor but the relationship soured. I believe Carlos was her personal trainer and their relationship developed organically from that. Btw, Rocco was an out of wedlock baby too. Guy and Madonna got married when Rocco was a baby.

But seriously, Dennis Rodman claimed that in the early '90s she offered him millions to impregnate her. In the mid-'90s, she said in an interview that she was ready to place an ad in the Village Voice to find someone to give her a child. She was allegedly joking. Not long after that, she announced she was pregnant. The official story was that she had met Carlos Leon while jogging in Central Park, and he became her personal trainer and her boyfriend.
