Heard is being characterised by the plaintiff’s legal team as a compulsive liar who covers up one lie with another and used the allegations against Depp to advance her own career and portray herself as a heroic and innocent survivor of abuse.
(To be clear here, I think that they were both doing it, so I'm not taking sides, just interested in what's being said in court.)
Some other details from Christi: Christi would always try to make sure that an extra hotel room was booked because Depp doesn't like to be present for fights and would need somewhere to go (meaning Heard and Depp often had fights).
Christi said that their mother had cruel nicknames for them and called Depp One-Eye because doctors thought he had a lazy eye and covered his good eye with a patch to fix it.
Christi wanted Depp to have a pre-nup but a pre-nup was never signed.

That's the episode where Depp "pranks" her by hiring fake police officers to say that the car was stolen for a third time. She got upset and flipped a fake officer off because he wasn't doing his job but instead off filming her and taking photos. I've been posting a variation of this on nearly every Depp/Heard thread, because, frankly, I'm astonished and horrified at how Heard is being characterized (both on DL and in the online discourse generally, even on her WashPo editorial from 2018). And this is an issue close to my heart.
Yes, both men and women hit, and both men and women can be violent in relationships. Yet most cases of serious abuse/battering, those cases that result in injury, stalking, murder, involve a MALE OFFENDER and FEMALE VICTIM. According to studies/surveys, most men who are hit by a female partner are not scared of the encounter in the way that a female hit by a male partner is. (In one study, couples in violent relationships were analyzed in a lab. Both partners generally manifested anger during arguments, but only the women demonstrated fear.) Men are bigger. Men are stronger. Men can inflict much more damage. Both men and women know this. Hence, in most domestic violence situations, the violence is unilateral.
My personal problem with lines like "Depp's abusive, but Amber's a lying psycho grifter" or better yet, "SHE provoked HIM!" is that they take the abuser's side. They assume his attitudes toward his partner and the situation more generally. Every man who beats his wife or girlfriend feels justified in his violence. In his mind, she always did something to deserve it. Talk to any abuser about his partner long enough and you will hear words like "crazy" and "psycho" and "mentally unstable." (The irony, of course, is that many women develop problems with depression and anxiety after prolonged abuse. Who wouldn't?)
Depp is a domestic abuser -- documented -- and nothing you can say about Amber mitigates that first fact. So why say it at all? Why, even in degrees, try to lessen the horror of his actions? I have had female friends and coworkers who've been in this situation. None were perfect, and some were difficult people with various addictions and other problems. Yes, some were even liars and could (gasp!) be manipulative. But if you can only get outraged about abuse when the victim is perfect, well, congratulations. The abuser wholeheartedly agrees with you and appreciates your support. He'd never have had to beat her if she'd just been good.

I couldn't possibly say what the jury is thinking but I'm personally really put off by the "Amber started the fights but Johnny, gosh, I don't remember, it's possible" attitude from the therapist and the "he's a perfect Southern gentleman" thing from Amber's former assistant. I absolutely believe this was a mutually abusive relationship but these two were obviously downplaying Depp's role in this mess and it was really off-putting.
This lawsuit isn't about Amber being a hypocrite or a grifter, it's about her lying when she said he beat her. She wasn't. End of story.

Rottenborn emphasized that in 2016, Depp had signed a document in three different places that stated “Neither party has made false accusations for financial gain,” contradicting what the actor now claims about Heard and her motives.
He will continue to cross-examine Depp tomorrow.

Depp also claimed his former management team never warned him he was in financial trouble. Then after they produced the emails in which they did precisely that, he quietly settled that lawsuit. Depp also self righteously testified in the UK trial he was so disgusted by the turd in the bed he ended the marriage over it, then he had to admit on cross that at the time he was texting friends it was hilarious. He claims Amber cut off the tip of his finger by throwing a bottle at him (already an improbable story) but there are multiple occasions of him admitting to cutting it himself--including on recordings HE made--and then smearing his blood on the walls.

IMO, he will lose. He's suing b/c Heard wrote an op-ed piece in the Washington Post (I guess that's why they're in VA). Heard didn't name Depp, but said she had been abused in a relationship. Depp is a public figure and that works against him in a defamation suit. Also, truth is a defense to defamation and he is on audio admitting he headbutted her. His burden of proof is by a preponderance of the evidence, but IMO, he can't meet that burden.

That's true, R461. However, I think all the drug use evidence (photos of cocaine & a passed-out high Depp with melted ice cream) & his demeanor on the witness stand (semi-high) will work against him with the jury.
Believe it or not, some drug users can actually handle their drugs and testify (about something they did when high). I have seen a jury believe an admitted drug user (meth).
In Depp's case, IMO, he's obviously high and I think the jury will assume he was out-of-control high a lot during the marriage and that he was abusive.
Amber is a celebrity, too, and young and pretty. Also, if there are men on the jury, they might sympathize with her like the hold-out (death penalty) did with Jodi Arias.

Pirates was forced to shut down production for two weeks, costing the studio some $350,000 a day. Depp claimed that Heard threw a bottle of alcohol at him, injuring his finger.
To many observers, Depp’s negative press was largely avoidable and stemmed from his aggressive legal tactics. The chief architect behind Depp’s sue-’em-all strategy is Adam Waldman, a handsome Washington lawyer with his own sheen of controversy given a clientele that has included Russian oligarchs and Julian Assange. Waldman, who is married to Berlin-based jet-setter and luxury skin-care entrepreneur Barbara Sturm, conducts himself in an unorthodox manner, mocking his legal opponents on Twitter. Sources say Depp met Waldman through Saudi Arabian Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, the country’s powerful minister of energy, in summer 2016. (Depp spent time aboard the prince’s megayacht in the past.) The claim that she threw a bottle at him and it cut his finger doesn't seem likely, I can't imagine a thick beer bottle shattering against a hand and slicing all the way through the tip of a finger. If she threw the bottle and he went to pick it up after it smashed because he wasn't aware enough to realize it was broken glass, that would make more sense.

At least twice, JD's attorney objected to "hearsay" and the judge sustained the objections (i.e., disallowed that cross-exam question). Not sure why AH's attorney wasn't citing the rules of evidence. Jurors are after all just part of the public. But he's not at all charming or disarming. Nobody under 40 really knows who he is and those older don't see what's so great or beautiful about him. All the comments on YouTube are pro Johnny, which is weirdly concerning. Because there are about 100 hours of footage already. He's a wreck, win or lose.

I think she was never really into him. She just got with him to help her career. She probably didn't want to have sex with him and he was likely impotent from drug abuse. So, the physical and emotional abuse was their way of being physically intimate and allowing him to feel like a powerful male, though he was neither desirable or able to perform sexually.

Both are trash to me but this is what surprised me r561, r523. Trash male stars having diehard female stans is nothing new. But I came across lots of usual woke women on twitter (bios and contents/rts like BLM, Palestine, Uyghur, etc.) who are usually anti-toxic masculinity/-male privilege, entitlement (unless black, brown, Islam) and very anti-white cis het men. Alot of women dislike other women and flat out enjoy seeing them being mistreated. From being happy when other women gain weight (because they are fat themselves and had been envious, or the other lady becomes less attractive so they aren't competition anymore) to being secretly excited when their girlfriend is having relationship problems (because they have shit relationships themselves or no relationships, and are jealous) to enjoying seeing other women who "have it all" in some way, lose it (because they don't "have it all" so other women deserve not to, either) is really common.
Over half of American ladies seek to vote in a party that removes or severely limits females body atonomy, handing it over instead to old, white, conservative men. Some of them hate their own sex that much, which is crazy. At least our log cabinites are in the minority!

Waldman's firm was called the Endeavor Group in Washington, D.C. The he started repping the likes of Russian Oligarchs and Julian Assange. Is he still whispering in her ear?
Waldman got his pro hac vice permission for an out of state attorney to appear for Depp in this Virginia case REVOKED because of unethical conduct and for using some internet weasel to leak and spread stuff about Heard including documents intended for use in court. I have actually never known of a pro hac vice status revoked before.
