Jamie Lee Curtis and Colin Farrell

These actor on actor things can be a bore but I thought this was interesting.

I like Jamie Lee, but man she talks about being sober all the time. We get it. You quit drinking. Good for you. Move on.

Colin seems like a good egg.

by Anonymousreply 1December 11, 2022 5:56 AM

She’s so up her own ass - just exhausting.

by Anonymousreply 2December 11, 2022 6:06 AM

I doubt Ms. Curtis has anything substantial to say about acting. Has she ever played a demanding role?

She’s a strange person to end up a star. Though I guess her lasting presence is a positive for trans visibility, so that’s nice.

by Anonymousreply 3December 11, 2022 6:24 AM

I so enjoy when she is “nice,”;also known a state she achieves when she is with someone as famous as she

This says a lot more about you than it does about her.

I used to be a Jamie Lee fan but I find she has become so insufferable. She really is up her own ass as stated above and she comes off as condescending and self-involved.

I'm glad Danielle Harris outed Jamie Lee as a rude cunt.

Also Jamie making those three shitty Halloween reboots/sequels shows how greedy she is.

by Anonymousreply 6December 11, 2022 6:30 AM

R5 not really - a lot of people go through that journey and yet don’t feel the need to be so pompous about it every chance they get. And also this arrogant presumption that it’s the “more evolved” way to live? Yeah, only if you’re an addict. That’s not most people.

by Anonymousreply 7December 11, 2022 6:36 AM

Farrell is also sober so it was going to come up during this conversation

What happened with Danielle and Scout sucks but i wouldn't put Jamie in the cunt category because of it.

I too like Jamie Lee and I hope she is finally nominated for the Oscar as u can see it means so much to her.

Then I hope she doesn’t make a public statement for at least two years

by Anonymousreply 10December 11, 2022 2:02 PM

Agree with the Jaime Lee detractors--she's a pretentious minimally-talented bore. Her attempts at wit and insight are cringe-inducing.

Colin Farrell deserves so much better. I've gushed about him before on DL. Not only is he a great actor he's a devoted father of a special needs child. I know first hand what patience and forbearance that requires, even if you have the resources he does.

by Anonymousreply 11December 11, 2022 6:09 PM

R5, I've been sober for years. But I don't work it into every single conversation. In fact, I hardly ever bring it up unless someone directly asks me or it comes up organically. Like in this post.

For me? It comes across very Me. ME. MEEE! to do exactly what Jamie did.

Colin, also sober, clearly didn't want any part of it. He was there to talk their respective films.

This was so touching. Curtis reciting from her children's book was beautiful.

I had to google it. I agree with you. Curtis is very public about not watching horror films, as well as doesn't keep up with all of the actors from the sequels. She could have been busy and preoccupied.

Her best chance for an Oscar nomination was for A Fish Called Wanda, for a rightfully charming performance. Those big, bold supporting characters played by sexy young women are like like crack for the Academy.

by Anonymousreply 14December 24, 2022 7:13 AM

R14 How on earth did Jamie Lee miss out on a nomination for A Fish Called Wanda (she was splendid) and Kevin Kline, who I normally like, who was dreadful and not only got nominated. but won for his terrible performance.

I'm glad Kevin has an Oscar, just a shame it is for such a shitty performance.

Curtis was lead in Wanda (at least, BAFTA, Globes, and others see it that way), and that category was packed in 1988. R15, on top of the nominees getting in for competitive films/performances (Melanie Griffith was delightful; Glenn Close was ruthless; Meryl Streep delivered a strong characterisation; Jodie Foster gave a very raw performance; and Sigourney Weaver put it all out there as well in an epic drama), Susan Sarandon missed, who also delivered a bold comedic turn in a Summer hit. Michelle Pfeiffer missed in lead as well for a brilliant turn in Married to the Mob. Christine Lahti missed for Running on Empty. And even Shirley MacLaine was in the hunt. Whilst I would have nominated Curtis, picking a Top 5 would still have been challenging. Also, the AMPAS aren't kind to rom-coms, especially when 1988 had so many of them (which I thought was a wonderful problem).

Everything Everywhere All at Once is a way stronger film than A Fish Called Wanda (it's a likely BP nominee and gunning for the win). It'll match Wanda's nominations and then some. Everywhere will be Curtis' best chance, R14.

Complete sobriety is boring

by Anonymousreply 17December 24, 2022 7:30 AM

*I should add that Supporting Actress was super competitive as well in 1988, had Curtis been campaigned there. All of the nominees came from BP nominees. And there were a few who were sexy and young (Michelle Pfeiffer, Geena Davis). Also, Sigourney Weaver and Joan Cusack (Working Girl) were outstanding. Frances McDormand was fine, but she was the one bright spot in a film which hasn't aged well (Mississippi Burning).

If Curtis had gotten nominated, she would have struggled to win, as there were five films the AMPAS loved more. Pfeiffer probably came close (as she ended up winning BAFTA, and Liaisons was enjoying a late surge). Weaver probably also came close, but some have theorised that being nominated against her costar Cusack cost her the statue.

Where is her Phaedra? Her Lady Macbeth?

by Anonymousreply 19December 24, 2022 7:32 AM

It's not fair Cinesnatch!

I hope you are right about me receiving my first Oscar nomination.

by Anonymousreply 20December 24, 2022 7:34 AM

To think when Colin Farrell was in nappies JLC was being stalked by Micheal Myers.

by Anonymousreply 21December 24, 2022 7:35 AM

Curtis was fine in Wanda but Oscar-worthy? I don't think so. And Kline was brilliant. He wasn't terrible. It's still a much-beloved comedic performance and one of the rare comedic performances to win an Oscar.

I think Curtis was more deserving of a nomination for True Lies or Freaky Friday.

by Anonymousreply 22December 24, 2022 7:39 AM

Wasn't Colin Farrell fucking an elderly Elizabeth Taylor

by Anonymousreply 25December 24, 2022 1:42 PM

Yes in many interviews, Colin speaks graphically about his torrid sexual affair with old Liz. Anal, around the world, gagging. He spares no detail.

Well, you won SAG on top of that. Congrats.

This was a good one. "Actors on Actors" always has the potential to go either way, but sometimes the chemistry is right, the subjects aren't overly familiar with each other, they apparently watched each other's films before the get-together, and they draw interesting things out of each other. The one with Blanchett and Yeoh this year is another that is recommendable.

I'll never forget the time A-on-A put Eddie Murphy (promoting his Dolomite movie) and Antonio Banderas (promoting Pain and Glory) together, and one of Murphy's questions to Banderas was, "What was it like acting in a Pedro Almodóvar movie?" He apparently didn't know that this was Banderas's seventh one, and in fact, Almodóvar had given him his break almost 40 years earlier.

Why doesn't that surprise me 😭
