1) a trophy wife is exceptionally attractive. That's the "trophy" aspect; she's a gorgeous thing others envy. She's also the wife by definition, not a mistress or gf.
2) a sugar baby is usually a mistress or gf, not a wife. Their attractiveness is besides the point; presumably they aren't ugly but they're not necessarily stunning.
A sugar baby can graduate to being a trophy wife, but they aren't the same. A trophy wife is not necessarily as transactional as a sugar baby; ie., hinting for expensive gifts and showing affection when they're bestowed, but no so blatantly quid-quo-pro trading sexual favors in exchange for monetary gifts the way a sugar baby would.
One man could simultaneously have a trophy wife he keeps for social advancement and respectability despite a loveless and even possibly sexless marriage, while keeping a sugar baby mistress on the side for sexual pleasure and "downmarket" companionship.

Trophy wife - they put a ring on it. Could be downgraded to ex wife if stops being a trophy, and knows it.
Sugar baby - transactional ho, for either high end swag, nice vacations, actual payments, etc. - could stick around to gf status but not yet married. Often located on apps.

A "trophy wife" is often a trophy not only because she's attractive but also accomplished (or at least well-educated) in her own right. She can survive in any social situation. She will have a well-negotiated pre-nup.

R5, it seems to be. I live in a wealthy NYC suburb crawling with them. Usually in their early 30s, married to older divorced men. Their job is to look great so they spend hours at the gym, medi-spas and salons. They need to manage impeccable homes and raise well mannered, successful children, which are usually the husband’s second or third set. He probably didn’t want them but they are her insurance policies. They need to make and maintain social connections that benefit the husband via volunteer work, club memberships, golf, tennis, equestrian, etc.
There are also a number of former trophy wives. They tend to be in their 40s and become residential real estate agents or interior decorators.
Sugar babies don’t become wives or mothers and don’t make out financially when their sugar daddies tire of them.
