Here's a video of the Independent Spirit Award Nominee Brunch from last month.
At 1:30 some of the nominees mention they might start stalking Paul Mescal like a weirdo would.

Someone just fell on their back at the Everything Everywhere’ s table after they got the screenplay award. Hope that person is okay.

Aubrey Plaza was funny as usual when she presented. I’d love to see her host again.

R2 - please God, not Jamie Lee.

R4 not Jamie Lee. Someone sitting by the supporting actor.

Should I start thread part 2 or should I wait a bit?

They should have figured out a way to keep EEAAO out of this competition. Box office too big or something. Anything. They are overwhelming all the award shows.

I'm so sick of EEAAO and Michelle Yeoh and JLC

Isn't that what the industry hopes happens to more films? Did you feel this way when Titanic swept the awards season? People like box office dynamos, just as they like sports dynasties. Just be happy that mainstream films are back and the awards aren't being given to films no one has seen. Blockbusters like EEAAO and Top Gun are needed for the survival of the industry.

Cate crawling under the table to get away from HM was spectacularly cunty, I loved it

r11 -- the Spirit awards were not made to be dominated by a Titanic though - they're supposed to be for the small movies that nobody else is paying attention to, to shine a light on them. That's been their mission statement since day one. I hate when there's too much overlap between them and the Oscars. And I actually love EEAAO but watching it walk away with every single award was exhausting when there were so many more movies nominated here that don't get a spotlight otherwise

Another rim fest for the garbage that is EEAAO. Christ I hope there is a backlash at the Oscars.

I have new found respect for Cate Blanchett for the move she pulled on dude. It seems like the entire show he was trying to get her attention

Hope EEAO wins zero academy awards

Would that make your pathetic little life worthwhile?

Did the host say he didn't know Angela Bassett who appears to be sitting at the table next to Cate?
| by Anonymous | reply 18 | March 5, 2023 3:33 AM |
Was Andrea Riseborough there? Did they have to unseat a black person to make room for her at the table?
| by Anonymous | reply 19 | March 5, 2023 3:45 AM |
They can’t get any cable station to carry this? Wow that’s bad. Also the unisex categories meant that half the number of acting awards were given compared to past years. I thought the point of awards was to drum up interest in movies? Why even bother with the awards at this point.

So happy for Quinta Brunson! I just got an email saying she won. Love her.

Half the awards were given, but it still went way overtime.

Did Shelly Yo win 🏆? This would definitely sound the death ☠️ knell to Trekkers hoping for a Discovery spin-off.

R19 no she didn’t show. I usually like the ISA. It can be really funny and irreverent. This years was overly long, tedious and mostly unfunny. The tv awards are stupid to include on this. And cutting the acting categories is another dumb move, while trying to be politically correct.

Hasan Minhaj is so unfunny. Didn't he learn from his disastrous Celebrity Jeopardy appearance?

Andrea Riseborough, 41, looked chic in a copper-hued jacket and matching pleated skirt for the evening.
Andrea, who is nominated in the Best Lead Performance category for her role as the title character in film To Leslie, looked relaxed as she arrived at the event, posing on the blue carpet with her hands in the pockets of her jacket.
Her pleated skirt reached almost down to the ground, with the star wearing some brown tights and a pair of beige heels for the evening.

R25 they didn’t show her when her nomination was read. Oh well. I guess a few international nominees are flying into California by now anyway since the Oscars are in a week.
| by Anonymous | reply 28 | March 5, 2023 4:41 AM |
For some reason, they didn't show a bunch of people when their noms were read. I don't think they showed Taylor Russell either.
I think the ceremony had different producers when it was on IFC. It used to be a pretty fun show, particularly the show Plaza hosted a month or so before lockdown. The TV categories are stupid.

Michelle Yeoh hilariously called back to her SAG Awards slip when she accepted the Best Lead Performance honor at the 2023 Film Independent Spirit Awards on Saturday.
The Everything Everywhere All At Once star, 60, joked at the start of her speech that, 'I promise, no swearing tonight!' after she let a few swear words such as 'f**k' slip out during her SAG acceptance speech earlier last month.

I'd rather EEAAO win every award than to have to hear about Abbott Elementary again. Hasan sucked. Sheryl was being FABULOUS again. JLC was being JLC. I gave up about halfway through.

Sheryl Lee Ralph EXHAUSTS me

Sheryl's dress looks like the cover you put on a roll of toilet paper.

It wins the award for the ugliest outfit. She's pictured on the above reply after the fat woman with a garden blooming on her body.
