I am watching DESPERADO (1995) for the first time EVER

And it’s pretty good. It’s fun, but I am not seeing why it was such a big hit and hyped back then. I was like 8 or 9 when it came out and I remember this movie being popular then and seeing commercials for it all the time and my parents seeing it.

I know it made Salma Hayek a big star and household name, and I see why. She’s absolutely STRIKING in this. The scene where we first see her walking on the sidewalk toward Antonio Banderas, wow. Gorgeous.

I love Banderas but I hate when he has long hair.

Did you like it? I think it’s fun but nothing that worthwhile.

Maybe it’s because it had many Hispanic leads in 1995?

I don't remember the movie being that big a hit. Maybe on home video. I would say it was a modest hit at most in theaters. It was never #1 at the box office and quickly fell out of the Top Ten after 3 weeks.

It wasn’t a box office hit but a hit when it came out on VHS and then DVD. It was a big rental then also.

It only made $25 million at the Box Office.

R2 but it only had a $7 million production budget, so it was profitable, but it wasn't a blockbuster.

It brought most of its money on home rental and VHS sales.

But still a success.

The next year was From Dusk Till Dawn and I think that met every straight man's fantasy.

There was this weird white guy sitting next to me at a bar in LA this past May and be kept going on and on about Salma Hayek and watching videos of her.

He sounded like he was gonna cum on the spot. He got kicked out.

I liked long-haired Alex McArthur's "Desperado" (1987 TV movie). Elmore Leonard wrote it.

I saw this at the Angelika in NYC...I was in college at the time, but I remember the showing was sold out. It had amazing buzz at the time and it was a fun film. Antonio and Salma were gorgeous.

It's one of my favorite movies. I also like the villain, saddled with a bunch of incompetent underlings and who doesn't know the number of his car phone. Bandaras shooting up the bar at the beginning was a really spectacular action scene, so well directed.

I loved the second one. It was very silly, but I loved it.

The second one was too silly. Salma Hayek was skinnier than ever and beating up men like nothing. Please.

Bucho was one of the hottest movie villains ever.

This book about making El Mariachi for $7,000 is pretty funny.
