Channel 4's series The Windsors, is now in its second season. Fucking hilarious.

I have the All4 app on my phone, I'll check it out and report back.

I don't really watch TV so......
| by Anonymous | reply 5 | July 16, 2017 5:03 PM |
R1 Unfortunately that'w the big problem with US produced TV-the actors are too good looking. When's the last time you came across a female cop that looked as good as Mariska Hargitay or Sela Ward? The Royals are inbred, so are supposed to be fugly.

R6 - The photo you posted tells me everything I need to know about this show. The actors are mugging with their facial contortions (or did they all have a stroke?) because they know the material isn't funny. They're as bad as those comedians who can never pose normally. They have to contort their faces in a "funny" (to them) way whether it's on the red carpet or for a professionally taken publicity shot. It's very off-putting.
I love British comedy (I grew up on it) and the majority don't need to pass themselves off as stroke victims.

We're still trusting Darlene Shivley that all we need is Keeping Up Appearances and As Time Goes By.

Okay, I just watched the first three episodes. It's pretty hilarious. There's no way Americans will get a quarter of the jokes unless they have watched a lot of British TV and know Brit slang and accents and some about the royal family (or if you read some of the Brit tabloids), but it's well written and the actors ham it up appropriately. They aren't as ugly as they look in that picture.
I'm loving how Pippa is the slutty schemer (and gypsy, lol) and the fascinator-happy Beatrice and Eugenia are ridiculously dense Chelsea toffs, and Fergie as the outcast screwup. If only the real life Kate and William were more like their characters.
Worth watching if you can stream it (or download All4 apk and use a VPN to watch for free from the US).

R6 you're talking through your arse. R10 has hit the nail on the head.
| by Anonymous | reply 11 | July 17, 2017 12:11 AM |
OK OP and r10. I'm going to give it a go. But if it sucks, I'm coming back here and there will be hell to pay.
| by Anonymous | reply 12 | July 17, 2017 12:16 AM |
Alright r12 again. My first reaction was like r7. But I gave it a shot. r10 is correct. This show is hilarious.
Thanks, OP. Please give us more suggestions.

R13 Friday Night Dinner
Began in 2011, ran for several seasons, according to Wiki "Friday Night Dinner depicts Shabbat dinner in the secular Jewish Goodman family, reflecting writer and producer Robert Popper's own secular Jewish upbringing. There are strong elements of farce throughout." Top class cast.

I downloaded All4 APk and so The Windsors doesn't show in Canada. And oh the APK...it was full of bugs, r10.

I've looked at a few clips and the first episode. Quite enjoyable, would love to see more.
| by Anonymous | reply 16 | July 19, 2017 7:15 AM |
It's very broad and low brow, almost Panto like (but for Panto some of the women would have to be played by men dressed in drag, right?).
Strangely I thought the guy playing Harry, Richard Goulding, was fugly at first, but the more episodes I watched he got actually decent looking.
Hugh Skinner (Wills) is also on the show Harlots showing his naked bum. Nice.
Love the women fight scenes throughout the series. Very camp. Haydn Gwynne as scheming Camilla is quite delightful.

I watched episode 1. I liked it in that very broad humor British comedy style. Loved Beatrice and Eug!!!
I guess the Royal Family is getting attention from all sides with this show, Netflix "The Crown," the recent broadcast of "King Charles III" and Ryan Murphy announcing that the next Feud will be Charles and Diana.

I saw one episode of it and could stand no more. Nada. Ugh.
| by Anonymous | reply 19 | July 19, 2017 9:39 PM |
Hugh Skinner is sexy in a Matt Smith sort of way.
| by Anonymous | reply 20 | July 19, 2017 9:41 PM |
r15 you need to use a reputable apk download site (pureapk is one) so you don't get some malware infected version, and you have to use a vpn along with that to get around the region restrictions. I didn't say it was easy!

There's not a lot of good clips of the show online, but here's a few I could find!

The over the top line deliveries and the affected accent of some of the actors reminds me of the SNL sketch series The Californians. Only British.
| by Anonymous | reply 25 | July 20, 2017 4:29 PM |
I think my favorite accent is Wills. He really makes the accent as ridiculous and posh as possible, with the end result being hilarious.
Camilla and Pippa seem to have the most fun parts, though.
| by Anonymous | reply 26 | July 20, 2017 5:57 PM |
I guess it is kind of funny, but why are they calling Kate & Pippa gypsies?
| by Anonymous | reply 27 | July 20, 2017 6:23 PM |
Never mind, I get the gypsy thing. It was what I suspected.

Brits are so unattractive. Ugly people
| by Anonymous | reply 29 | July 20, 2017 7:39 PM |
They're just so Godemoralizing damned ugly. Ugly. Didn't have the blessing of Native.admixture. That's the true meaning of gorgeous Americans.

Hugh Skinner is hilarious.
Wills: ... and if we do cost the taxpayer over 334 Million pints plus the sovereign grant then let's not be afraid of hard work. So c'mon! Let's put the wealth back into the Commonwealth, the Great back into Great Britain, the United back into the United Kindom, and the GLAAAND back into EN-GLAAAAND!
| by Anonymous | reply 41 | July 21, 2017 10:44 AM |
I like the episode where Beatrice & Eugenie try to get Andrew & Fergie back together. "We can be a happy family again. Just like we were in January and February 1994."
| by Anonymous | reply 42 | July 21, 2017 8:03 PM |
I am a Texan but I think I can explain this one.
It is easy to imagine the senior royals look down upon the "middle class" Middletons. The DM hints as much in its soap operatic coverage of the clan. So the show takes their "questionable" family origins a step further by portraying them as gypsies, who are the lowest of the low in Britain.
It doesn't sound funny but it really is.
| by Anonymous | reply 43 | July 21, 2017 8:36 PM |
I'm binging this now and it really is quite funny. I've just started Season 2 and they have Kathryn Drysdale playing Meghan Markle. And Hadyn Gwynne is so hilariously over the top as Camilla. I wish US tv were this funny.
| by Anonymous | reply 44 | September 11, 2017 1:49 AM |
I also love all the ghost kings.
And in the Christmas Special, when Charles has to do the annual tv Christmas address because the Queen is sick, they don't bother changing the tv graphic which says "The Queen At Christmas". So funny!

I just started watching this on Netflix. It's dumb as hell but I love it. Princess Beatrice is my favorite so far.

| by Anonymous | reply 48 | January 13, 2018 4:32 AM |
Thanks for the tip, OP. Is this on Hulu or anything in the US or does one have to hunt down copies elsewhere? It looks amusing from that clip.
R14 - LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Friday Night Dinner. One of the most consistently funny shows I've seen.
| by Anonymous | reply 49 | January 13, 2018 4:49 AM |
God it’s funny! Been hooked since the outset - and it’s even better now they’ve had a chance to really feel comfortable in their respective characters. Hard to pick my favourites as they’re all good - but think Bea and Eugenie - and Fergie! - are especially fabulous.
The poster who mentioned Friday Night Dinner earlier - it’s also a big favourite! Tho’ at times the elements of farce are so uncomfortable you’re wincing - same response I had for Fawlty Towers all those years ago. So many of this show’s catchphrases have become catchphrases in and our household as well after multiple viewings...
I also really liked the he first season of Plebs - set in Ancient Rome. But I gather it was a bit of an unexpected, low-key hit - and became kinda self-conscious and knowing in the second season and lost the magic... well, IMHO.
Also finally got around to binge-watching W1A - and again - although at times it’s wince inducing - I think it’s hysterical. It’s set at the BBC - and is basically about corporate office politics and bullshit - but arts and entertainment. Moccumentary style. Hugh Skinner - Wills in the Windsors - is also in it - and is too sweet (and stupid!) for words. Several of my friends cannot stand watching it however - it’s too close to the bone. They either work in - or have worked in - situations not too dissimilar and it makes their heads want to explode.
I’ve attached a link to the review that initially put me onto The Windsors. Every time I watch an episode now I do wonder - are THEY watching it too? (I mean - you would wouldn’t you?)

Oh! Completely forget! PRINCESS ANNE!!!
She’s not in the first series at all - but is introduced in the Christmas special between seasons. Sooooo funny!
It seems only the Queen is off limits. Which is nice really. Prince Phillip isn’t ever shown - but he does write abusive and racist notes and cards not infrequently.
Anyway hope this link works - lovely!

Friday Night Dinner. Bits at random. You’ll either hate it - or be intrigued and want more.
I always want more. Tamsin Grieg is a freaking goddess! Love her!

Plebs. First season. Geat stuff! Such naughty lads!

...and W1A.
The Siobhan character is often touted as the standout in various reviews - stealing every scene she’s in! - but she’s the one who makes my head want to explode. Known too many PR women uncomfortably like her...

I started watching it earlier and my partner, who hadn't seen it before, was giving me the stinkeye. By the time it got to the fight between Kate and Camilla during the First Ladies' Debate, he was howling.

Anyone watching it on Netflix US should know that the Christmas special should be viewed in between the seasons -- Netflix has it as the final show of season 2, but it really aired at the end of season 1.
