Geena Davis has reflected on a “bad” encounter with Bill Murray early on in her career.
The Thelma & Louise actor worked with Murray on 1990 film Quick Change.
During their first meeting, the actor, who was 39 at the time, is said to have insisted on using a massage device on Davis despite her repeatedly protesting against it.
Recalling the alleged encounter, Davis, 66, told The Times: “That was bad. The way he behaved at the first meeting… I should have walked out of that or profoundly defended myself, in which case I wouldn’t have got the part.
“I could have avoided that treatment if I’d known how to react or what to do during the audition. But, you know, I was so non-confrontational that I just didn’t…”
When the journalist pointed out that Davis was “blaming herself” for Murray’s alleged behaviour, Davis replied: “Ha. Point taken. There’s no point in regretting things, and yet, here I was regretting. And yes, exactly, it wasn’t my fault.”
The Independent has contacted Murray’s representatives for comment.

Surprised this isn’t on here yet - I actually did a search for this because, very strangely , I was going down an Arsenio Hall YouTube rabbit hole on Thursday late night - have no idea why, it’s not like I liked the show that much. And I was watching a few and next on the cue was an interview with Geena Davis and Bill Murray. Which I had seen when I was like 12 and hadn’t ever thought about since , but even then I remember it being one of the creepiest things I had ever seen. So a watched a few minutes of it again and yeah it is - and she’s not even remotely comfortable , or “playing along,” or anything like that. The body language couldn’t be more clear.
So then fast forward two days later this article from the guardian - of all things - turns up on my google page. Very random and of course given this Arsenio clip it has to be100 percent true. A lot of shits gonna start really coming out on him now, I have no doubt.

I absolutely adore Quick Change. All three leads - Bill Murray, Geena Davis and Randy Quaid (he didn't come across as crazy then) - were terrific. And Jason Robards was his usual brilliant self in a supporting role.
It pains me to hear what an asshole Murray is. I watched the clip r1 referenced and yeah, Murray was so out of line.
I've always enjoyed Murray's movies, but he has always come across as a smug asshole.

I seem to have an innate sense of when someone is a creep or secret abuser no matter how well they hide it. I see it in their faces. There have been a number of famous and even beloved stars like Bill Murray to whom I took a dislike, and other people thought I was just being "mean" or something. Bing Crosby (who was on TV sometimes when I was a child, and we saw his old movies, too) is another one.

I thought the Arsenio clip was fine. Bill was doing his usual schtick and it was harmless and funny. Geena Davis is tiresome. I remember her complaining that she thought there would be great feminist parts for women after Thelma and Louise and it didn't happen. With all of her millions, Geena Davis could have created anything she wanted but she was busy sitting around waiting for someone else to do it. She is perpetually passive and it's always someone else's fault...and unfortunately we have to hear about it.

Do you know how long it takes for women in Hollywood to get a film greenlit? Sometimes a DECADE - so many projects are in development hell that take so long. You just don't snap your fingers and get $30 million dollars thrown in your lap to make a movie.
Even someone like Reese Witherspoon, with her Oscar, her box office clout, she can't get her projects green-lit by the studio system. Witherspoon went a different route going to HBO and streaming services to get her projects made. She recently sold her production company for 1 billion dollars

The industry definitely promotes this idea that actors and talent have a lot of autonomy and independence in their general lives (and they do for the most part). If you work or know people who work in the industry, particularly people who have higher-level producer jobs, it becomes apparent that these celebrities are really just well-paid lackeys for the industry. My uncle and cousin both worked in the industry for a number of years, my uncle actually being an executive producer on the animation side. And, oddly, they both used to work and knew Davis quite well in the years where her career started a downturn into smaller projects. The fact is, yes, these actors are well-paid (some quite wealthy), and yes, technically speaking, they could probably wield a lot of power in everyday situations with people outside the industry (e.g. in a hotel or restaurant). However, these people also have some strong legal instruments and financial arrangements that govern their working relationships with production companies, and they can get very specific to ensure people like Davis and others toe-the-line. Despite the popularity these actors may have with the public and the fact that they seem so larger than anything we recognize (it's THE Gina Davis, who'd fuck with her) they are still technically employees and, thus, are subject to their company's and bosses' behavior, both good and bad. Lay people like to view celebrities (being wealthy and grandiose) as having some kind of independent living but someone like Davis (or even Murray for that matter) isn't gonna have a lot of power to lord over their studio superiors, , especially when dealing with amounts of money the film industry handles.

I have absolutely no idea what specifically was going on with Herschel Walker at the time, but this episode aired right around the time he was traded to the Minnesota Vikings, which was big news.
