Crazy Joe Davola is Dead to Me!

One of my favorite tv characters ever. Peter Crombie, 71 years old and died of an undisclosed illness.

Aside from his "Seinfeld" fame, Peter acted in movies like"My Dog Skip," "Natural Born Killers," "The Blob," "Se7en" and "Rising Sun," "Born on the Fourth of July" ... just to name a few.

So sad -- RIP!

Thanks for posting, OP. Fun memories.

He was very good. Too bad he didn’t have more of a career.

“His ex-wife Nadine Kijner announced Peter died on Wednesday due to a sudden, unknown illness”

Sounds like a Covid denier! Crazy Joe probably never got the jab

Hello, R2.

It's Joe Davola. Pbbfft pbbbfftt Sorry, I had a hair on my tongue. But, of course, you should know; you put it there. I know what you said about me, Seinfeld. I know you bad-mouthed me to the execs at NBC; put the kibosh on my deal. Now I'm gonna put the kibosh on you. You know I've kiboshed before, and I will kibosh again.

No reflection on the actor intended, but the character was one of my least favorite recurring characters in Seinfeld. Distractingly so.

R4 Larry Charles is responsible. His episodes are pretty dark for a sitcom but that's what I liked about them. He wanted to separate himself from Larry David and Seinfeld who wrote most of the first 4 seasons. I can understand why they wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea however.

Charles is noted for contributing some of the show's darker storylines and scenes. In the season two episode "The Baby Shower" Charles wrote a dream sequence in which the title character, Jerry Seinfeld, was killed. Charles's episodes also covered such controversial topics as Nazis (in "The Limo"), a psychotic stalker (in "The Opera") and a hospital patient committing suicide (in "The Bris"). A season two episode he wrote, "The Bet", concerning Elaine buying a handgun to protect herself, was never filmed because NBC, some of the cast, and the show's director felt the gun content was too provocative.[8][9][10] Charles claimed that his writing on Seinfeld was heavily influenced by Dragnet, Superman and Abbott and Costello.[11]

Heartfelt tribute from his ex-wife (!) and Lewis Black.

I didn't know he played Bernhard Goetz in the tv movie.

Notice how we never had so many people hospitalized for an “unknown illness” before Covid? Mysterious “bacterial infections.” Very “rare pneumonias.”

They spent several episodes building up Davola, then he jumps out of the crowd at the “Jerry” taping and … that’s it. Never gets mentioned or seen again. Anticlimactic.

One of the funniest moments on the show:

Elaine: You left your front door open

Davola: I like to encourage intruders

^^ "Good. Fear is our most primal emotion."

"Who am I? Who am i supposed to be?"

I saw this and thought, "That name sounds so familiar." It took me five minutes to realize that Pete Crombie played my boyfriend in a show 40 years ago. God, I'm old.
