Constance Wu upset that Fresh Off The Boat was...RENEWED?

She tweeted this minutes after news of the sitcom's renewal for a sixth season.

[quote]So upset right now that I'm literally crying. Ugh. Fuck.

[quote]Fucking hell.

Can anyone remember an actor being pissed when their series was renewed?

by Anonymousreply 1May 10, 2019 11:21 PM

Must’ve had better opportunities elsewhere and is stuck in her contract

by Anonymousreply 4May 10, 2019 11:28 PM

She's already been labeled "difficult". I can't imagine this will help against that narrative. What producers want to hire someone who publically complain they will continue to have a steady job. Very ungrateful.

by Anonymousreply 5May 10, 2019 11:29 PM

How do you know she’s talking about the show?

by Anonymousreply 6May 10, 2019 11:30 PM

She made one successful film and wants out? Although FOTB is total shite now

by Anonymousreply 7May 10, 2019 11:30 PM

I never heard of the show and she was in some wedding movie that made a lot of money, correct? So is she pissed off that she has to work one more season on the show?

by Anonymousreply 8May 10, 2019 11:31 PM

Six seasons seems a bit much for this nothing show.

by Anonymousreply 9May 10, 2019 11:32 PM

Trending on Twitter right now.

by Anonymousreply 11May 10, 2019 11:33 PM

FOTB gets renewed and The Kids Are Alright gets canceled. What the fuck, ABC?

by Anonymousreply 12May 10, 2019 11:34 PM

FOTB was produced by 20th which is now owned by Disney so Disney may be trying to get the episode count up so it does better in off network sales.

by Anonymousreply 13May 10, 2019 11:40 PM

The only thing I've seen her in is CRA, and she wasn't that good. She should be grateful for any work she can get.

by Anonymousreply 14May 10, 2019 11:41 PM

ABC also killed Jenna Fischer's show since it seems everyone wanted to punch Oliver Hudson in his stupid face (which wasn't stupid in his other show with David Spade.)

by Anonymousreply 15May 10, 2019 11:42 PM

Clarification coming shortly, no doubt. I'm sure her PR people are freaking out right now like nobody's business. She'll never work again with this attitude so she better apologise or provide a really good argument for her behaviour.

by Anonymousreply 16May 10, 2019 11:46 PM

Oliver Hudson was smoking hot in Rules of Engagement. He looked like a bum in the Jenna Fischer show.

A sequel to CRA is supposed to be in the works, so maybe Wu's schedul is fucked up now with the renewal. Still it's no reason to be pissed. Very unprofessional.

by Anonymousreply 17May 10, 2019 11:46 PM

I don’t blame her. The show is BAD. I really, really, really wanted to like it, but it’s BAD. There are some great shows with great diversity (hello, Brooklyn Nine Nine!), so I don’t get why this one sucks.

by Anonymousreply 18May 10, 2019 11:46 PM

ABC banished FOTB to Friday night last fall, and the creator/showrunner, Nahnatchka Khan, is leaving the series for a new deal at Universal. Since FOTB was on the bubble this year, Wu probably thought the series was done and got an unpleasant surprise this afternoon!

Anyhow, the standard TV contract USED to be five seasons, but it must be more than that now. Or she renewed her deal earlier in the series' run.

by Anonymousreply 19May 10, 2019 11:50 PM

FOTB is a network show, show she's probably making bank. With this new season, it'll likely go into syndication, which means even more cash in her pocket. There are more than enough struggling actresses out there who would kill to have her problem of having a job!

by Anonymousreply 20May 10, 2019 11:51 PM

R1 John Stamos. Back in the aughts he had a sitcom called Jake in Progress that was cancelled after the first season. Rumor had it that John was about to sign to join the cast of ER, when suddenly ABC renewed Jake in Progress for a second season. Cut to the fall and ABC then cancelled the second season of Jake in Progress after airing ONE episode. Basically, they renewed the series to keep him from joining the cast of ER.

He did wind up joining ER later, but I would say that would be an example of someone (justifiably) being unhappy that their show got renewed.

by Anonymousreply 22May 10, 2019 11:52 PM

Damage control time.

R19 I think in more recent years, some shows lock in actors for 7 seasons.

by Anonymousreply 25May 10, 2019 11:58 PM

R20 it is already in syndication. I think on Freeform and UP since this season

by Anonymousreply 26May 10, 2019 11:59 PM

I loved FOTB the first couple of seasons but it did jump the shark. Randall Park could hit this any time he wanted !

by Anonymousreply 27May 10, 2019 11:59 PM

[quote]Y’all are making a lot of assumptions about what I was saying.

And yet she STILL hasn't said what it was she was intending to say.

by Anonymousreply 28May 11, 2019 12:01 AM

Some PR person just had to cancel their weekend plans .

by Anonymousreply 29May 11, 2019 12:01 AM

A man tweeted her saying the renewal was great news. She blatantly responded that no, it's not. I used to like her, but I think she's one of those people who think their shit don't stink.

by Anonymousreply 30May 11, 2019 12:02 AM

Man, celebrities being on twitter is the biggest disaster. You really should keep some thoughts away from the public.

by Anonymousreply 36May 11, 2019 12:10 AM

Maybe she’s hoping they kill her off lol

by Anonymousreply 37May 11, 2019 12:11 AM

Whoops, r35. I was going to give her the benefit of the doubt because some celebs are just terrible at social media, but this seems deliberate.

by Anonymousreply 38May 11, 2019 12:11 AM

She's totally within her rights to want off the show, but bitching on social media...not the way girl.

by Anonymousreply 39May 11, 2019 12:13 AM

No one's going to hire someone who publicly insults the show they're working on! She's jeopardising her career by behaving like this.

by Anonymousreply 43May 11, 2019 12:28 AM

She's an Asian actress who's pushing forty, and is complaining that the network show she is the star of is getting renewed. Ungrateful sounds about right.

by Anonymousreply 44May 11, 2019 12:29 AM

they could always 'aunt viv' her

by Anonymousreply 45May 11, 2019 12:30 AM

She’s a massive cunt. The pseudo explanation just sounds dumb.

by Anonymousreply 48May 11, 2019 12:45 AM

At this rate, Constance will get her very own "why did their career go straight down the shitter" thread on DL in a couple of weeks!

by Anonymousreply 49May 11, 2019 12:49 AM

Waiting for Awkwafina to chime in...

by Anonymousreply 50May 11, 2019 12:49 AM

r50 That may just happen! Pile on her now so there's one last person to compete for roles for.

by Anonymousreply 52May 11, 2019 12:51 AM

Just like that, she has completely sabotaged her own career.

by Anonymousreply 53May 11, 2019 12:54 AM

I mean if you had to turn down bigger roles for this shitty c rate sitcom, you would be upset also?

by Anonymousreply 55May 11, 2019 12:55 AM

I’m enjoying someone just self destruct in real time. And Miss Ali dropping the hot tea....and Ms. Gemma Chan confirming the tea...this is exactly what you need on a Friday. Delicious!

by Anonymousreply 56May 11, 2019 12:57 AM

She is allowed to be as upset, privately, as she wants to be r55. But that's not why this is a story.

by Anonymousreply 57May 11, 2019 12:57 AM

Yes but throwing a tantrum in public is not the way R55. You can reduce your workload or leave a show without burning the bridges

by Anonymousreply 58May 11, 2019 12:57 AM

It makes me like her more, Yes bitch! Hollywood should stop the fake nicness! They are all cunts!

by Anonymousreply 59May 11, 2019 12:59 AM

[quote]She's totally within her rights to want off the show, but bitching on social media...not the way girl.

She can want off the show, but she's no right to be off the show if she signed the standard seven year contract. She is fine in CRA but c'mon honestly, Michelle Yeoh, Gemma Chan & Awkwafina blew her off the screen.

by Anonymousreply 60May 11, 2019 1:00 AM

I’m betting Melissa McCarthy wasn’t thrilled Mike & Molly kept getting renewed after she broke out in Bridesmaids but she was smart enough to keep her mouth shut and keep collecting a steady paycheck

by Anonymousreply 61May 11, 2019 1:00 AM

So much life-nurturing tea being spilled today

by Anonymousreply 62May 11, 2019 1:00 AM

Yes R8. She was in a film and would probably rather do more work in film than TV.

by Anonymousreply 63May 11, 2019 1:02 AM

I’m waiting for Akwafina to confirm the tea, but I highly doubt she would....crossing fingers and toes.

by Anonymousreply 64May 11, 2019 1:03 AM

She’s going the Johnny Depp route with 21 Jump Street. He would trash it publicly, would miss days, would show up late etc. and they still wouldn’t fire him.

By season 3 he was barely acting and just saying his lines and they still kept him until they FINALLY let him out.

by Anonymousreply 65May 11, 2019 1:04 AM

Awkwafina is big right now. She won’t do anything to stir the pot

by Anonymousreply 66May 11, 2019 1:05 AM

Awkwafina should get her own film based on her character in rich crazy Asians.

by Anonymousreply 67May 11, 2019 1:05 AM

r65 Or when Jessica Biel did that "racy" photoshoot just so she'd get fired from 7th Heaven.

by Anonymousreply 68May 11, 2019 1:06 AM

R68 yup. She was 17 at the time too. That’s what made it more controversial

by Anonymousreply 69May 11, 2019 1:07 AM

She wanted the show to be canceled and the little gaysian to be unemployed?

by Anonymousreply 70May 11, 2019 1:11 AM

by Anonymousreply 81May 11, 2019 2:07 AM

I didn't see Crazy Rich Asians. Is it even worth watching or is it only getting a sequel because of $$$ box office in Asia?

by Anonymousreply 82May 11, 2019 2:12 AM

R82 most of its money was here in the states. Not Asia.

by Anonymousreply 83May 11, 2019 2:13 AM

They could just switch in Lucy Liu or some other Asian actress. Not like any one will be able to tell the difference. Cruel race.

by Anonymousreply 84May 11, 2019 2:15 AM

by Anonymousreply 85May 11, 2019 2:16 AM

Rich People Problems. How appropriate.

by Anonymousreply 92May 11, 2019 2:56 AM

R82 I would say no. Watching the movie you can see where the cuts were made and the books were in desperate need of editing but somehow they managed to cut out the only storyline that most of the readers cared about. The books relied heavily on footnotes so it doesn't translate well into a standard type of romcom movie that the director went for.

It made money not because of the strenght of the film but on the popularity of the book series. There are better movies to watch and there are much better asian american movies to watch.

by Anonymousreply 93May 11, 2019 2:57 AM

She's almost 40? The use of f-bombs and the ungrateful whininess made me figure she was a dumbass 20-something.

by Anonymousreply 94May 11, 2019 2:58 AM

Her people could have negotiated a reduced schedule. 13 of 22 episodes or something. Or she could have used her in-demand movie status for a big raise.

She's the mom, not the star, on a marginally rated single-camera sitcom that can shoot around things. It's not like this is The Cosby Show in 1985.

Instead, she pulled this.

by Anonymousreply 95May 11, 2019 3:02 AM

yeah r95. If she had cooperated and had some movie role they might have offered to work out the schedule so she could do both.

by Anonymousreply 96May 11, 2019 3:05 AM

by Anonymousreply 110May 11, 2019 5:01 AM

I hate that dumb bitch at R102. If you even remotely criticize a project produced, directed or lead by a woman you are a misogynist in her opinion. She shows zero critical thinking capabilities in her reviews and is constantly making a fool of herself. How is she a critic for major publications like The Wrap?

by Anonymousreply 111May 11, 2019 5:25 AM

She just Katherine Heigled her career. Bye bitch

by Anonymousreply 113May 11, 2019 5:33 AM

She is not even thinking long game. Disney owns ABC and many of times plucks people from their shows for other shows and movies. She could have had a good relationship going there. Warner Brothers does it all the time. Half the people on HBO (owned by WB) are also in Warner Brothers movies. Bill Hader, Nicole Kidman, the Skarsgard family, Jeffery Wright, Zendaya...the list goes on. I would drop her if I was her agent.

It is not like she is an awards winner or box office champ. I don't even think she is that good of an actress. There are a bunch of better actresses I would pick before I reached her name.

by Anonymousreply 114May 11, 2019 5:39 AM

r12 oh shit, I am bummed The Kids Are Alright got canceled. Damn I loved that show. Fresh Off The Boat is lame.

by Anonymousreply 116May 11, 2019 6:01 AM

What did Katherine Heigl do/say?

by Anonymousreply 117May 11, 2019 6:07 AM

by Anonymousreply 121May 11, 2019 6:25 AM

[quote]HTGAWM.

Sorry, I don't watch that much TV. What is HTGAWM?

by Anonymousreply 124May 11, 2019 6:59 AM

r119 that's not the real issue with her.

She had a blockbuster attitude with a soap opera career. Think Julia Roberts starting on Y&R acting like...well, like Julia Roberts.

She was like that even before the Apatow movie hit. Then she was still like that afterwards when she bombed in everything she did. TPTB decided it wasn't worth it. It takes a special level of cunt to piss off every group above *and* below the line. That's Michael Bay territory. Except he's made billions of dollars for studios.

by Anonymousreply 126May 11, 2019 7:02 AM

HTGAWM = How To Get Away With Murder.

by Anonymousreply 127May 11, 2019 7:06 AM

I think Wu was really good in Crazy Rich Asians and is the best thing about FOTB.

That being said, she’s really fucked this up, and Twitter is an unforgiving bitch. I really liked her, and this was disappointing as hell. Just completely selfish and thoughtless to the cast and crew she works with.

Talk about tone deaf.

by Anonymousreply 128May 11, 2019 7:27 AM

"Meet the Matz William Hughes 5/11/19 12:14am I know a few people who work on the show. She’s apparently an enormous asshole who treats everyone like shit and definitely has made clear, for a hwile, that she thinks herself better than the show and that it’s holding her career back.

I worked on a TV show for a number of years that also had a star feel like the show was preventing them from getting to the next level in the film world. It’s a depressingly common way TV stars can make all the other people on the show feel shitty and belittled. The star on my show has had almost zero success after the show ended. And the tweet above alluded to Shelly Long and David Caruso, of course. This is the more likely outcome of what happens with breakout TV stars trying to go into movies than what happened to George Clooney. Constance should count her blessings when it comes to FotB."

by Anonymousreply 149May 11, 2019 4:58 PM

So leaving aside the blowback from the tweet, would the fact that the show is renewed have meant that she couldn't star in the Crazy Rich Asian sequels?

by Anonymousreply 150May 11, 2019 5:25 PM

Her Wikipedia page has been edited with unflattering commentary several times, and it’s being quickly corrected.

Constance must have been up all night.

by Anonymousreply 151May 11, 2019 5:50 PM

They hit the magic 100 episodes so she will do well in syndication. Shows like "Life In Pieces" which was just cancelled will miss the national syndication money by a season.

by Anonymousreply 152May 11, 2019 5:51 PM

I dont think 100 is the magic number anymore.

by Anonymousreply 153May 11, 2019 5:59 PM

In a lengthy tweet Saturday, the series regular addresses the reasons behind her Friday tweets expressing anger and disappointment that her ABC comedy had gotten another season.

“I love [Fresh Off the Boat]. I was temporarily upset yesterday not because I hate the show but because it’s renewal meant I had to give up another project that I was really passionate about,” she wrote. “So my dismayed social media replies were more about that other project and not about FOTB. But I understand how that could feel interconnected and could get muddled. So here is me unmuddling it with my truth: FOTB is a great show that I’m proud of and that I enjoy. I’ve gotten to fully explore my character and I know her like the back of my hand.”

Wu went on to explain that while playing Jessica is easy for her, the unnamed project she had to give up “would have challenged me as an artist.” Still, she notes, the timing of her online rant “was insensitive to those who are struggling… I do regret that, and it wasn’t nice and I am sorry for that.”

I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt as to her intention, but how stupid to tweet that. Twitter is so dangerous.

by Anonymousreply 155May 11, 2019 6:09 PM

Blind Gossip has a blind about her.

by Anonymousreply 156May 11, 2019 6:16 PM

Is that the television program with all of those Orientals?

by Anonymousreply 157May 11, 2019 6:27 PM

[quote]Man, celebrities being on twitter is the biggest disaster.

Ain't that the truth? How many of them have gotten into trouble because of something they Tweeted? Roseanne, of course, destroyed her whole career.

If I were a celebrity manager, it would be in their contract that any Tweets had to be pre-approved before being posted. No exceptions.

by Anonymousreply 158May 11, 2019 6:43 PM

What's the Blind Gossip blind?

by Anonymousreply 159May 11, 2019 7:15 PM

This Wu bitch is fucking stupid. Major blunder. She should have known better. And she blamed it on having a bad day. People aren't stupid, bitch.

In a few years, she'll be wandering around Hollywood hoping someone even remembers she was once on a show called FOTB. You don't shit where you work. Understand?

by Anonymousreply 160May 11, 2019 7:33 PM

Yashar is really getting the business on Twitter.

by Anonymousreply 161May 11, 2019 7:45 PM

I can’t wait to see how LaineyGossip spins this in Constance’s favor Monday

by Anonymousreply 162May 11, 2019 8:05 PM

I wonder why she would commit to another "project" without consulting the producers of the shows she's already contractually obligated to?

by Anonymousreply 163May 11, 2019 8:07 PM

r161 what the fuck for? If she's a cunt, call her out.

And he shouldn't have to have a fucking halo himself to do it.

by Anonymousreply 166May 11, 2019 10:00 PM

Why is she acting like she is the first and only person this has happen to in the industry? It happens all the time. If you have the goods people will work with you.

It reminds me of Joe Manganiello constantly complaining about being on a hit HBO show (he came on after it was a big success) and bitched the whole time about it keeping him from being a film star and he was too good for it. They finally kill off him character early to get him the hell out of there and he the best he can do now is guest spots playing himself. Cautionary tale.

by Anonymousreply 167May 11, 2019 10:07 PM

r167 in fairness, the opportunities only come around once in a lot of cases. That's in part why they're pissed off.

by Anonymousreply 168May 11, 2019 10:09 PM

R166 Probably because Twitter is filled with people like the aforementioned Yolanda Mochado who think perfectly valid criticism of any woman is misogyny.

by Anonymousreply 169May 11, 2019 10:22 PM

Give all her roles to Ali Wong. She's the same age, actually funny and talented.

by Anonymousreply 170May 11, 2019 10:26 PM

Please, r168. Neither one of the people in my post are scary talented and they know it. That is why they are so angry and panicked. The producers know you are on TV show and will work around you or wait if the show is ending soon if they really want you. They don't offer a job to someone who has no availability. Waste of time.

And if you are a self proclaimed future film star, then don't sign a TV contract and take that nice, steady paycheck, then bitch about it to the public. Choices.

by Anonymousreply 171May 11, 2019 10:32 PM

Re: blind item. I cant copy from my phone but the blind talks about how she is hated by all the people on set. She is "classless and mean" and rude to everyone. She sounds horrible.

by Anonymousreply 172May 11, 2019 10:40 PM

Notice how nobody, costars, journalists, etc who know her are sticking up for her.

Veryyyyyyyy interesting.

by Anonymousreply 173May 11, 2019 10:45 PM

Renewed And Crying

[Blind Gossip] This blind item is similar to the last one. Except the actress in this case is crying for a different reason!

This comedic network TV series was just picked up for another season.

The lead actress must be thrilled, right?

No. Opposite!

She’s pissed. She has big plans for a movie career and wanted out. Now that it’s renewed she is forced to stay on for another season.

That’s not all!

You would think she would be grateful to have a steady job. She is actually the most ungrateful, classless actress working today. Everyone on the set hates her. She is a very vulgar, nasty person.

Yikes. She seemed so sweet in her last movie that we had no idea that her real life persona was so different! That’s crazy.

Actress:

TV Show:

[Optional] Do you think she will be a big movie star?

by Anonymousreply 174May 11, 2019 10:57 PM

It's weird. I feel like it's 1985 again. I thought that actors were able to transition between film and tv seamlessly. It's not like before where actors only did one medium, not both. Look at Reese, Nicole and Meryl with Big Little Lies 2. Yes, it's not as long a season as FOTB but it's still television.

Wu must not have a good agent or good management who can negotiate either a shorter season or appearing in fewer episodes. Viola Davis was smart to agree to a short season, but then again, she had more clout when she started HTGAWM than when Wu started her series.

by Anonymousreply 175May 11, 2019 11:13 PM

She's the Asian Patty Heaton (circa 2003)

by Anonymousreply 176May 11, 2019 11:24 PM

She’s so ugly, who would pay to see this cocked eye whore?

by Anonymousreply 177May 11, 2019 11:29 PM

[quote] So leaving aside the blowback from the tweet, would the fact that the show is renewed have meant that she couldn't star in the Crazy Rich Asian sequels?

She was already contacted for a potential sequel.

If this other role was a lead the production could have waited for her. Either Maze Runner or The Intern pushed back their production to accommodate Dylan O'Brien's schedule. But she just have to deal like every other TV actor does by waiting for your hiatus.

[quote] Wu must not have a good agent or good management who can negotiate either a shorter season or appearing in fewer episodes. Viola Davis was smart to agree to a short season, but then again, she had more clout when she started HTGAWM than when Wu started her series.

Sometimes producers just won't budge. Seth Green didn't return to Buffy when his contract was up because he wanted to take time off to do a film and even though his character wasn't needed. Joss Whedon refused hiding behind Fox lawyers and Green's contract.

by Anonymousreply 178May 11, 2019 11:29 PM

Has anybody told her that her boss is Disney? Good luck starting that film career now.

by Anonymousreply 179May 11, 2019 11:32 PM

I'll bet the people doing the "passion project" are all now breathing a long sigh of relief that they dodged this bullet.

by Anonymousreply 180May 11, 2019 11:48 PM

R165 that explanation only makes her look worse . Apparently she's not passionate about her day job and only half assing it .

by Anonymousreply 181May 12, 2019 12:24 AM

Sort of what R177 said. I had to look her up as I am not familiar with her TV show and you couldn't pay me to watch the wedding movie, and I was surprised how plain she looks. Good make-up does wonders to her face, but she's basic and bland.

Also, the mole.

by Anonymousreply 185May 12, 2019 1:13 AM

It's seems that Constance's bad attitude is a constant.

by Anonymousreply 187May 12, 2019 1:32 AM

Her on screen husband Randall Park seems very sweet. I wonder what he thinks of all this.

by Anonymousreply 188May 12, 2019 2:12 AM

[Quote] Either Maze Runner or The Intern pushed back their production to accommodate Dylan O'Brien's schedule. But she just have to deal like every other TV actor does by waiting for your hiatus.

I'm sure some of that is because Dylan has better management. And being a younger white dude couldn't have hurt either.

[Quote] Sometimes producers just won't budge. Seth Green didn't return to Buffy when his contract was up because he wanted to take time off to do a film and even though his character wasn't needed. Joss Whedon refused hiding behind Fox lawyers and Green's contract.

I don't blame him. Oz didn't get a lot to do in season 4.

by Anonymousreply 189May 12, 2019 3:42 AM

Don't most sit-com stars just film movies during the summer hiatus?

by Anonymousreply 190May 12, 2019 3:43 AM

Her A-List dreams are over. She killed any possibility with her attitude, although I doubt she was going to have the major film career she hoped for.

by Anonymousreply 191May 12, 2019 4:01 AM

This did just did a Heigl.

by Anonymousreply 192May 12, 2019 4:18 AM

R192 Heigl's was worse. She asked to be withdrawn because the writing wasn't up to standard, in her opinion.

by Anonymousreply 193May 12, 2019 4:21 AM

Haven’t watched the show in years. Can they kill off her character or have her character written off without affecting the rest of the cast?

by Anonymousreply 194May 12, 2019 4:44 AM

Haven't you heard? She's a "woman of COLOR" so we are not allowed to call out her shitty behavior. That is not being an "ally". We must support every behavior, whether good or bad, of "people of COLOR"

by Anonymousreply 196May 12, 2019 5:10 AM

R196 that only works if you are BUhlack!

by Anonymousreply 197May 12, 2019 5:14 AM

by Anonymousreply 199May 12, 2019 5:18 AM

Don't know her, don't know the show. I am enjoying this, though. What a crazy way to end your career.

by Anonymousreply 200May 12, 2019 5:21 AM

R196 Are East Asians really referred to as "people of color"? I thought that required a certain level of melanin in your skin (hence the "color" part).

by Anonymousreply 201May 12, 2019 5:24 AM

[quote]Give all her roles to Ali Wong. She's the same age, actually funny and talented.

R201 - that’s what I thought too! Asians in NYC and blacks have never been simpatico with each other. Used to be the old trope about Asian businesses always following black customers around their stores. Now, we have Asian parents vs black, Latin parents over the dumbing down deBlasio is championing for NYC’s specialized public high schools. Hell, deBlasio’s schools chancellor actually said on record at a public City Council meeting that those opposing (Asians) the dumbing down are racists against POC.

So yeah, sorry Connie, you may be many things - difficult, ungrateful, entitled, etc. - but you are definitely not a POC.

by Anonymousreply 204May 12, 2019 6:01 AM

The show should release her from her contract and recast the part. There are plenty of actresses that look like her so it would be pretty seamless.

by Anonymousreply 206May 12, 2019 7:04 AM

Agree they should just recast her. f Fresh Prince could replace the first Aunt Viv who was amazing with someone who didn't even look like her than they could replace this chick.

by Anonymousreply 207May 12, 2019 7:26 AM

R206 especially since 2 people will be watching this on friday nighths. ABC renewed this for diversity it’s the lowest rated of all their sitcoms now that they cancelled speechless.

by Anonymousreply 208May 12, 2019 7:31 AM

I really hope ABC and the show take full advantage of this and mock Wu. Put her character in stupid predicaments or have her character tweet something stupid that she regrets. Name episodes after the PR disaster: "Passion Project" , "Dislike", "Literally Crying", "Fun, easy and pleasant".

by Anonymousreply 209May 12, 2019 7:36 AM

ABC should replace her, but not before another actress is cast in the movie Wu wanted to be in.

by Anonymousreply 210May 12, 2019 7:39 AM

At least Speechless was somewhat interesting, if not always funny. FotB never rated much interest or humor.

by Anonymousreply 214May 12, 2019 8:12 AM

R203 wow Heigl got off Suits? and god she is so dumb like why couldn't she just say something like: "So happy about FOTB getting renewed, but really wanted to shoot that other film. oh well!" or just not freaking tweet at all???

by Anonymousreply 215May 12, 2019 8:13 AM

R214 it’s not hard to see why? If it was a sitcom of a white family it would have been cancelled a LONG time ago.

by Anonymousreply 216May 12, 2019 8:15 AM

R204 are East Asian people people of color? Are you serious?

Yes. They most certainly are. Having a white name doesn’t change that.

^^^sorry, that was for r201

by Anonymousreply 220May 12, 2019 8:39 AM

by Anonymousreply 221May 12, 2019 8:53 AM

I've always liked KH. Can't stand Constance Wu - there are hundreds of better Asian actresses around than her.

by Anonymousreply 222May 12, 2019 9:24 AM

Katherine Heigl is pushing cat litter. Ellen Pompeo just bought a villa in Italy.

Take note, Constance.

by Anonymousreply 223May 12, 2019 9:24 AM

R222 that's surprising, since the stories of her being a massive asshole are legion.

by Anonymousreply 224May 12, 2019 9:33 AM

R224 I know but as an actress I like her. Wouldn't want to encounter her in 'real life'.

by Anonymousreply 225May 12, 2019 9:54 AM

R225 I think she's nice to fans but it's obviously a different story when it comes to cast and crew.

by Anonymousreply 240May 12, 2019 2:12 PM

No, r240, if she is not well liked behind the scenes as it now appears, then this does not help. If she was a box office champ or s critically acclaimed awards winner, sure, but she is not. She will work, but is no longer on the top of anyone's list. And why be stupid and annouce that you are about to be s big film star?

by Anonymousreply 241May 12, 2019 3:13 PM

I watched the show up until season 4. None of the kids are going to be stars when it ends, and the white boy in Eddie's circle of friends is gayer than an Easter Parade. I also noticed that every single line of dialogue is an individual take. Compare this to 1970s and 1980s shows; even B-list shows from back then like [italic]Gimme A Break![/italic] and [italic]Silver Spoons[/italic] had longer takes between shots and even used two-shots more often.

by Anonymousreply 242May 12, 2019 3:32 PM

by Anonymousreply 244May 12, 2019 3:39 PM

In that comments section, they said that she was even a bigger diva than JLo on their Hustlers project. How is that possible?

by Anonymousreply 245May 12, 2019 3:40 PM

Too bad that American actors still think of television as some kind of inferior product and will sabotage themselves just to get some film work. Films don't last and they don't come along often in this world of super hero movies. Best to look for great roles even if in a mediocre project because it's the work that makes the difference not the medium the work is in. At least if I were an actor I'd want a juicy role, I'd want to be enjoying portraying my character, that would be the main thing.

by Anonymousreply 246May 12, 2019 3:46 PM

Wu is a total cunt but I won't deny she has something that makes her very watchable. I enjoy her a lot unfortunately.

While anything is possible, the general public usually turns on certain types of behaviors, one of which is whining about rich people's problems, .e., complaining that your tv show got renewed. If the show had been cancelled and she cheered, that would be another one.

Even if she goes on an apology tour, there is a certain ingratitude that the public rarely forgives - see Katherine Heigl who ripped on both the vehicles that made her famous (Grey's and the Aptow movies). It's why people enjoyed watching Heigl's scramble to get work. David Caruso was the byword for this particular type of arrogant ingratitude. Until Heigl, he was the punchline of such jokes.

by Anonymousreply 268May 12, 2019 5:54 PM

It wasn't particularly high rated when it was on Tuesday. It had a shorter season 4 (19 episodes) but it got renewed for 5th season and moved to Friday. She probably thought it was going to collpase there. It went down to 0.6-0.7 but given the sad state of Friday tv shows it was deemed ok (Black-ish and Bless the Mess got renewed with 0.7 on Tuesday and American Housewife with 0.8-0.9 on Wednesday).

by Anonymousreply 269May 12, 2019 6:01 PM

But r263, that cast knows this is a good gig and has made them millions. They, unlike Wu. Know there is not guarantee of ongoing success. You don't shit on the thing that made you happen. Especially when you are still on it. If you are that talented, then you can wait a year or two.

I also think it is because she is on network TV. If she was on Big Little Lies or Killing Eve you would not hear a peep. Suck it!

by Anonymousreply 274May 12, 2019 6:23 PM

She MIGHT have been able to wrangle some success out of the extra name recognition from this, and push the angle that any subsequent loss of career is because people are harder on Asian women than men.... that is, if ABC wasn't owned by Disney. Who also own just about everything else in Hollywood.

Congratulations, you played yourself.

by Anonymousreply 275May 12, 2019 6:24 PM

Constance Fucking Wu, the gift that keeps on giving. Look forward to watching her fade away.

by Anonymousreply 276May 12, 2019 6:27 PM

Even when it was still good, Harry Shearer bitched about the quality of [italic]The Simpsons[/italic] for years and years. Now the cast members, including but not limited to him, get six figures a week to utter some of the most inanely unfunny lines in TV history.

by Anonymousreply 277May 12, 2019 6:28 PM

She's playing an aging mother with three kids, two of them teenagers already, on a Friday night sitcom from Disney. She thinks there's life after that?

Her next stop is playing a spunky grandmother or high school principal, not as a leading lady in the movies.

by Anonymousreply 278May 12, 2019 6:30 PM

[quote]Her on screen husband Randall Park seems very sweet. I wonder what he thinks of all this.

I wonder about that as well. I recall some interview from a year or two ago where he seemed quite grateful for FOTB and the movies he did.

by Anonymousreply 279May 12, 2019 6:31 PM

Remember the last time you saw Erin Gray in anything?

They'll be saying the same thing about her 20 years after this show ends.

by Anonymousreply 280May 12, 2019 6:35 PM

[quote]This Is Us has been renewed for three seasons. I better not see Sterling K. Brown, Justin Hartley or DL fave Chrissy Metz pitching a fit over having guaranteed employment.

I think SKB or Hartley will probably get pissed at some point later on if they have to pass up on projects. But, I think they will keep it to themselves.

by Anonymousreply 281May 12, 2019 6:36 PM

I'm so happy for Chrissy Metz.

Three more seasons of that frau fest This is Us = more donuts!!!

by Anonymousreply 282May 12, 2019 6:38 PM

Allison Janney did Broadway and won an Oscar while on Mom.

Melissa McCarthy blew up on Bridesmaids and did a ton of movies while on Mike & Molly.

You can make it work, Connie, just don't be a cunt.

by Anonymousreply 283May 12, 2019 6:48 PM

If she makes it work, how can she blame the hierarchy for keeping her down? Constance Fucking Wu loves to Fucking Whine.

by Anonymousreply 284May 12, 2019 6:50 PM

What gets me about this is how unnecessary all the drama. All she had to fucking do was keep quiet through filming this season and not renew her contract, same as Jim Parsons did. That's it. Instead, she had a meltdown one would expect see from a young teenager, then tried to walk about with bullshit excuses.

by Anonymousreply 285May 12, 2019 6:54 PM

She should just own it. Say she's ready for different roles.

by Anonymousreply 286May 12, 2019 7:00 PM

The most hilarious thing would be if ABC doesn't put Fresh off the Boat on the Fall schedule and use it as filler at the end of the next season

by Anonymousreply 287May 12, 2019 7:18 PM

[quote]This and Modern Family are examples of how ABC can take a formerly good thing and run it into the ground.

Until Disney's recent acquisition of Fox Studios, ABC did not produce either of these shows.

by Anonymousreply 288May 12, 2019 7:26 PM

This Wu girl is doing more back pedaling than the boat from which her family departed.

by Anonymousreply 291May 12, 2019 7:46 PM

Can you, please, quote the stuff from Twitter?

by Anonymousreply 292May 12, 2019 7:51 PM

Damn, the Speechless people are going in on her. Wonder if Minnie will say anything.

by Anonymousreply 293May 12, 2019 7:54 PM

What about James Charles?!?!?!?

by Anonymousreply 294May 12, 2019 8:02 PM

At least the Heigl girl could be charming on air. This Wu girl is a bitch in and out of character!

by Anonymousreply 296May 12, 2019 8:12 PM

She's one slap away from turning into a Chinese Ann Romano.

by Anonymousreply 298May 12, 2019 8:14 PM

R296 she is on character...her character on the show is a bitch

by Anonymousreply 299May 12, 2019 8:18 PM

"Constance" is the name you give to someone you know will grow up to be a cunt.

by Anonymousreply 300May 12, 2019 8:20 PM

Leave it to Seth MacFarlane to inject the implication of homosexuality into this with that "dickshit" comment.

by Anonymousreply 301May 12, 2019 8:23 PM

Fresh off the Boat likely only has one more season left. There’s been a recent regime change at ABC. They are now in the process of developing their own new shows. These won’t be ready until the fall 2020 season. FOTB and a lot of other shows are just filler. It’s pretty common for actors to wish the axe would just fall already under these circumstances, they just don’t usually say so in public. They aren’t going to get a lucrative contract renegotiation. It’s already got enough episodes for syndication. They’ll be looking for work soon enough and being chained to a show on it’s death bed prevents them from taking on new projects. She shouldn’t have said it out loud, but there are plenty of people who’ve felt the same way.

Someone way up thread asked if actors have ever been disappointed by renewal before. Loretta Swit wanted out of MASH so she could be Cagney on Cagney and Lacy. She was stuck playing Hot Lips for two more years. C&L ran for 7 or 8 seasons. She would have been better off without those last seasons of MASH. She was already in her 40s and there weren’t going to be a lot of opportunities. Pierce Brosnan was set to play James Bond and then NBC renewed Remington Steele for half a season and he couldn’t play Bond. Most actors are happy to have a high rated show that they can expect to go on for years, they just don’t want to miss out on bigger and better projects for something that will be ending soon.

by Anonymousreply 302May 12, 2019 8:28 PM

Loretta Swit they didn't want off [italic]M*A*S*H[/italic] when they let Wayne Rogers, McLean Stevenson, Larry Linville, and Gary Burghoff go. At least they let her out for a movie, even if it did have Julie Andrews in it.

by Anonymousreply 303May 12, 2019 8:31 PM

I can see her being frustrated by the way her character is written; the show's direction; the loss of a challenging, appealing and significant opportunity; the powers that be told her they would do something and didn't do it; or who knows what.

What's strange and admittedly fun is that there's never the flash of thought, "I'm fucking well angry... but I shouldn't put this out there," or "Ya know, tapping on "Tweet" to post this would be really dumb."

by Anonymousreply 304May 12, 2019 8:39 PM

[quote]Pierce Brosnan was set to play James Bond and then NBC renewed Remington Steele for half a season and he couldn’t play Bond.

He still got it; he just had to wait a decade and do [italic]Mrs. Doubtfire[/italic] to do it.

by Anonymousreply 305May 12, 2019 8:45 PM

[quote]What's strange and admittedly fun is that there's never the flash of thought, "I'm fucking well angry... but I shouldn't put this out there," or "Ya know, tapping on "Tweet" to post this would be really dumb."

Actors are attention seekers. Even those who claim to be shy.

by Anonymousreply 306May 12, 2019 8:50 PM

Mrs Doubtfire was his best performance of the three...

by Anonymousreply 307May 12, 2019 8:50 PM

I am baffled as to why she felt compelled to tweet. Say it to your BFF, agent, spouse, maid or personal assistant.

Yes I know R305, but he’s still an example of someone who wasn’t thrilled his show got renewed. He would have played Bond longer if he’d been able to start younger. He has know way of knowing Bond wasn’t off the table permanently.

by Anonymousreply 308May 12, 2019 8:50 PM

If Pierce had gotten Bond in the 1980s, he would have gotten stuck with [italic]The Living Daylights[/italic] and [italic]A View to a Kill[/italic], the last ones before Giancarlo Paretti nearly destroyed MGM/UA with his incompetence and corruption.

by Anonymousreply 309May 12, 2019 8:52 PM

I meant [italic]Licence to Kill[/italic], sorry.

by Anonymousreply 310May 12, 2019 8:53 PM

LOL at the comments "She's human", "She has a right to be angry".

Fuck this entitled, ungrateful bitch. She had no regard for her cast and crew, many of whom were probably worried they might be out of a job because it wasn't a guarantee the show would be renewed. She doesn't have to worry about rent cheques or feeding families.

And seeing other ABC show casts like Speechless and Whiskey Cavalier thanking their show's CREW for their hard work really puts it in perspective.

The only way for Wu to get out of this is to make a grand gesture like Mark Wahlberg did with that Michelle Williams fiasco: pay up, give money to people who lost their show, or give money to a union.

Because this will not end. The more shows learning they are cancelled will just remind everyone of Wu's ungratefulness.

by Anonymousreply 311May 12, 2019 8:54 PM

The funniest thing is that Constance isn't even a Twitter whore who posts every thought she has. She's tweeted more in the past few days than she has all year. It would be one thing if she was an all day every day "here's what I'm thinking" kind of gal, but she shot herself in the foot doing something out of character.

by Anonymousreply 312May 12, 2019 8:57 PM

R311 who is she supposed to pay? She didn’t cause any show to get canceled. No one has lost a job because of her.

by Anonymousreply 313May 12, 2019 8:59 PM

[quote]She had no regard for her cast and crew, many of whom were probably worried they might be out of a job because it wasn't a guarantee the show would be renewed. She doesn't have to worry about rent cheques or feeding families.

That was the same argument Gary Coleman's parents used to keep him on [italic]Diff'rent Strokes[/italic] and it on the air for one more year, which turned out to be its worst and lowest-rated. You could feel the life going out of it like a tire on a bike gradually deflating. And almost all the money from his salary ended up being wasted by his parents.

by Anonymousreply 314May 12, 2019 8:59 PM

"Some things are better left unsaid."

Yes, sure, everyone has frustrations at work for any number of reasons. However, someone who is a public figure like Wu needs to have much more discretion about saying something that appears so bitchy, ungrateful and damaging. Like someone said upthread, say it to your boyfriend, best friend, personal assistant, etc. But don't tell the world. Tell your agent. And stay the fuck off Twitter. No one believes Wu's pack-pedaling lame excuses. She came off like a monster on her first tweet--and she probably is.

Some things are better left unsaid.

by Anonymousreply 315May 12, 2019 9:15 PM

She tried to be sarcastic and fell flat because it went over everyone else's head.

by Anonymousreply 316May 12, 2019 9:16 PM

Oh, she had a bad day. Boo-hoo. Don't fucking lie on top of everything.

by Anonymousreply 317May 12, 2019 9:16 PM

She is a woman of colour! We cannot silence her. She's human! She only wants to work on passion projects!

This lynch mob mentality is what is wrong with society. People coming after her when they have not stood in her shoes. It's so sad what has happened to our society.

ABC should cancel the show so she can do her pet project. We need her voice!!!

by Anonymousreply 318May 12, 2019 9:17 PM

R316. She was not being sarcastic. She was being unnecessarily brutally honest and publicly ungrateful. She was throwing an Internet diva tantrum thinking she could get away rude and mean responses despite her so-called bad day. Good luck dealing with the cast and crew who may genuinely need their jobs. And one of these days Wu will need a job too, and she'll die to be on a hit show or have someone recognize and kiss her spoiled brat celebrity ass. Enjoy it while it lasts.

by Anonymousreply 319May 12, 2019 9:22 PM

Her apology/explanation is way too long and doesn't feel sincere. If your "apology" is all about why you're not really such a bad person, it's not going to work.

Selma Blair should teach a master class on this shit. She had some kind of public meltdown a few years ago and after issued a public apology which was basically "I fucked up, I'm very embarrassed, and I'm very sorry." Short, simple, contrite, incident, PR crisis over. No "here's why what I did wasn't really that bad," no "I'm so misunderstood," no "here's why it's not really my fault."

Wu should have kept her dumb drama queen ass off Twitter. Failing that, she should have just said "In a moment of selfishness, I failed to consider the importance of this show to so many people and the hard work of the entire cast and crew that have made it so successful. I am very embarrassed and I apologize. I hope I can make it up to them and I fully intend to honor my commitment to them and this show."

by Anonymousreply 320May 12, 2019 9:24 PM

Yup, that would have been great r320.

by Anonymousreply 321May 12, 2019 9:26 PM

There's a time and place for everything. Wu's timing was way off, and Twitter is not the place to air your work grievances despite having to give up a big project. Tell your agent. Tell the studio privately. Is there a solution? Can they work out your schedule? Act professionally and STFU telling the general public who think you're a mean, cruel, ungrateful bitch who doesn't deserve the good fortune of being a highly paid working actress.

by Anonymousreply 322May 12, 2019 9:28 PM

No truer words: "Some things are better left unsaid." At least unsaid on goddamn Twitter. What's wrong with her?

by Anonymousreply 323May 12, 2019 9:31 PM

You could tell that if her movie career got bigger, she'd be absolute hell to deal with.

by Anonymousreply 324May 12, 2019 9:31 PM

I guess she was the one who put the "crazy" in [italic]Crazy Rich Asians[/italic].

by Anonymousreply 325May 12, 2019 9:33 PM

R324 allegedly she already is

by Anonymousreply 326May 12, 2019 9:35 PM

In some variation of the Streisand Effect, this little drama got me curious enough to watch "Crazy Rich Asians." It's got its charms, and she's good in it.

I wonder if she'll be contrite and change her behavior. That's probably a big ask.

It might blow over. Can we foresee a future profile: "After surviving a near-career-ending Twitter debacle, Constance Wu is back – humbler, wiser, and lighting up the screen in ______" Just trying to think like an optimistic press agent.

by Anonymousreply 327May 12, 2019 9:42 PM

This show is only Disney-by-proxy. It remains to be seen how much influence they will exert over Fox.

by Anonymousreply 328May 12, 2019 9:43 PM

The show's been a mess since day one. It's based on the childhood of that Asian celebrity chef who wrote a book about it and it originally supposed to star the oldest son. Trouble is, his childhood was actually pretty dark (the father killed himself) so they quickly refocused it to make it more about the parents, and the chef (who did the narration the first season) got mad and left the show. Since then it's been all over the map.

by Anonymousreply 329May 12, 2019 10:22 PM

My guess is that she's finished because of all this--the press she's been getting (see link) has been extremely loud and negative.

The lesson for other celebrities to learn is: watch your big mouths, and especially, STAY. OFF. TWITTER.

by Anonymousreply 330May 12, 2019 10:30 PM

I don't get why it's a big deal. It's like when Jerry Springer had to roll his eyes when another person got voted off Dancing with the Stars and he continued. He even said to his fans. Stop.

The show sucks, she is saying stop.

by Anonymousreply 331May 12, 2019 10:35 PM

I don’t think she’s finished because of this. Lots of celebrities have had bigger scandals and kept working. The public will move on. Heigle still gets tv shows. She didn’t just express her thoughts either. Heigle asked for time off to make movies. She got the time off and then failed to show up on the Greys set when it was time to come back. All this made things challenging for the writers and cost money. Caruso threw a chair on the NYPD Blue set and then he left. He still got another show. Wu hasn’t refused to go to work. She just expressed a desire to not go back to this job. There’s no reason to think she’ll pull a no show.

by Anonymousreply 332May 12, 2019 10:43 PM

if she does make a no show, the writers will probably just add 2 more scenes of the grandmother saying random things in Chinese no one understands. And everybody will be happy

by Anonymousreply 333May 12, 2019 10:48 PM

I've never seen a second of the show or her movie, but R331, she handled this badly even if she's right. A lot of struggling actors and others looking at this woman and thinking "What an ungrateful bitch."

by Anonymousreply 334May 12, 2019 10:49 PM

With all the comments on the articles and on SM about Constance being a monster on sets, I hope people spill the dirt. When Gilmore got revived, this one guy posted about what a nightmare the two leads were in the original and all these people chimed in with their own stories. It was like...DAMN

He had a LONG dry spell between his movie flops and CSI: Miami.

by Anonymousreply 339May 12, 2019 11:11 PM

I already thought she was a cunt when she waited for a fellow actor to get an Oscar nomination -- and then actively campaigned against him to cost him votes. And wasn't in any way connected to him., just did it to show how "enlightened" she was or whatever bullshit was in style that week.

Fuck her. A lot of people didn't share my feelings but I knew all I had to do was wait with that box of popcorn and she'd fuck it up herself as is happening now. First no Oscar nod (would you nominate her after she bashed another actor's nomination?) and now she looks like a total ingrate bitch. And the stories are coming out. Bye, bitch.

by Anonymousreply 340May 12, 2019 11:22 PM

Yeah, Caruso and Heigl eventually got more gigs, but it took s while and they never made it close to where their "supposed" talents should have led them, i.e. critically acclaimed projects and blockbusters. They are still considered jokes in the industry.

Even if you don't like something, you finesse your way around it, and then talk to a friend about to let off steam. I did it a few weeks ago and felt great without putting myself in a bad light or looking "difficult".

by Anonymousreply 341May 12, 2019 11:22 PM

I can't wait to hear what the project was that she thought she had lined up.

by Anonymousreply 342May 13, 2019 12:05 AM

If I ranted and raved every time my career didn’t go my way, I’d have been run out of LA a long time ago. You smile at the people signing your checks.

by Anonymousreply 344May 13, 2019 12:11 AM

BOO hoo at the rest of the cast and crew they can get other damn jobs or get unemployment!

by Anonymousreply 345May 13, 2019 12:20 AM

Go cunt go! Be who you are, show your true cunt colors! I am so over the fake nice bff bullshit from Other actresses!

by Anonymousreply 346May 13, 2019 12:24 AM

R346 No, DL'ers prefer their actresses to be meat puppets who smile at the camera and be grateful for their checks.

by Anonymousreply 347May 13, 2019 12:43 AM

R347 basic boring bitches like basic boring bitches.

by Anonymousreply 348May 13, 2019 12:46 AM

R348 Who you calling boring! LOL

by Anonymousreply 349May 13, 2019 12:51 AM

Henry Golding's natural charisma carried that 'love story'. Wu's on screen presence is like congealed oatmeal. Yea, you can get it down, but you clearly don't enjoy it. And don't get me started on Michelle and Gemma, their natural on screen presence AND acting ability, completely drowned out Wu. She is pedestrian in looks and 'acting' ability and should be on her knees thanking the gawds for her opportunities, ALL OF THEM.

So um yea, she and Hiegel should definitely get together for cocktails and compare bitch notes. Invite Julia R too, just for extra cunt seasoning.

by Anonymousreply 350May 13, 2019 1:02 AM

I liked the first season best -- now I know it was because the original writer was still on board.

by Anonymousreply 351May 13, 2019 1:04 AM

Isn't this the same woman constantly railing about no parts/representation for Asians? Isn't this the same woman who goes on the attack every time she believes a white actor is unjustly playing a role that should be Asian?

by Anonymousreply 352May 13, 2019 1:05 AM

R352 Maybe she thought that made her indestructible.

by Anonymousreply 353May 13, 2019 1:15 AM

R350 I disagree. Wu was the star of CRA. She carried the "Cinderella" emotional journey that girls and fraus could relate to. The other actresses were entertaining but only as her friends and enemies. Of course, I can't say Wu would be good in any other roles since I never saw her in much of anything else. I do vaguely remember her from Eastsiders where she was between forgettable and annoying but she wasn't exactly the featured star in that show.

by Anonymousreply 354May 13, 2019 1:19 AM

I think attacking Casey Affleck - whether she was wrong or right - was a dumb move r340. I'm sure a number of actors, particularly connected to the Afflecks, are enjoying her downfall.

She committed a no-no in Hollywood. She inserted herself in a conversation where she was not invited and people will remember that. They're remembering it now, for sure.

by Anonymousreply 355May 13, 2019 1:20 AM

SHE IS A WOMAN OF COLOR. WE MUST NEVER QUESTION OR CRITIQUE ANY BEHAVIOR BY PEOPLE OF COLOR THEY ARE UNTOUCHABLE AND WE MUST ALWAYS SUPPORT EVERYTHING THEY SAY, DO OR WANT.

by Anonymousreply 356May 13, 2019 1:23 AM

R356 DL has never gone out of its way to be kind to "women of color". The only people who gets special treatment here are pretty white boys.

by Anonymousreply 357May 13, 2019 1:27 AM

[quote]The only people who gets special treatment here are pretty white boys.

by Anonymousreply 359May 13, 2019 1:30 AM

by Anonymousreply 360May 13, 2019 1:34 AM

by Anonymousreply 361May 13, 2019 1:35 AM

R361 You must have never gone into the fan threads.

I knew they changed things from reality, but I had no idea it was that much or that things got that bad. ABC basically turned it into [italic]That 90s Show With An Asian Family[/italic]. And even then there were inaccuracies; Jessica herself said "VCR it" the way we say "DVR it today." No one said that in the 1990s. No one. And the timeline of what year it is seems to be all over the place.

by Anonymousreply 364May 13, 2019 2:18 AM

by Anonymousreply 366May 13, 2019 2:44 AM

If you'd have told me 20 years ago that Bill Cosby, Roseanne, and Ricky Schroder would all be Hollywood pariahs and that this woman would both ruin a good thing and get a good thing to ruin in the first place, especially in the wake of that Margaret Cho show failing, I'd have said you were out of your mind.

by Anonymousreply 367May 13, 2019 3:15 AM

I’ve seen a lot of average straight dude bros get gushed over on DL. At the same time really hot actors and models get cut down.

by Anonymousreply 369May 13, 2019 4:26 AM

I would love to be a fly on the wall on the set of this and "Empire" when she and Jussie came back in. Also, miss me with the "challenging role" bullshit. You're a fucking actor, you have the easiest goddamn job on the planet. If you really wanted to challenge yourself you would become a brain surgeon or a fucking deep sea diver or a coal miner.

by Anonymousreply 370May 13, 2019 5:07 AM

R357 and 368. Two morons

This woman is an ungrateful cunt. She earns more in one year (less than 6 months worth of work) than most people earn in a lifetime. And she's bitching about it to the entire world. And she may have impacted the livelihoods of about 100 people who work a hell of a lot harder than she does

Why should she get special treatment? I hope this bitch gets fired

by Anonymousreply 371May 13, 2019 5:08 AM

That's from the same production company on a different network, R370. I'd say it's a coincidence, but these days I'll believe anything you can prove to be true in the physical realm.

by Anonymousreply 372May 13, 2019 5:09 AM

[quote] This woman is an ungrateful cunt.

As opposed to a grateful one?

by Anonymousreply 373May 13, 2019 5:14 AM

What r371 said. I find it surprising there is nobody standing up for her. Nobody. She must be a vile cunt to work with because usually at this point after the initial buzz of the story, defences start to pop up. But she has such a bad reputation there is nobody coming to her defence.

by Anonymousreply 374May 13, 2019 5:18 AM

Jessica is the worst character anyway. Maybe the writing team has been telegraphing something she’s now made clear. Twitter can be a great equalizer.

by Anonymousreply 376May 13, 2019 6:38 AM

Yes r378, also with the hot John Cho with, "Selfie", although they marketed it with Karen Gilliam's face at the forefront, and he's peeking from behind. Fresh Out the Boat limps along because they're the Asian, "Blackish" and it's all about diversity.

R382 oh no! How ever will that poor rapist recover?! 🙄

The guy at r383 looks like Philip Seymour Hoffman.

by Anonymousreply 387May 13, 2019 1:18 PM

He didn't have to recover, R386, he won. He's polishing his Oscar while you silly pearl-clutchers wrongly call him a "rapist". Idiots. You and Wu deserve each other.

by Anonymousreply 389May 13, 2019 7:06 PM

R82 it is overrated, and I only found Awkwafina's character, and the gay character to be entertaining. I am not going to watch the sequel.

by Anonymousreply 390May 13, 2019 8:17 PM

I did notice that nobody that knows her stood up for her. Even Gemma Chan, though she issued a denial of liking Yashar's comment, didn't say anything nice about her. She or someone else could easily have chimed in to say she was great to work with, really sweet, or some nonsense, but instead it was crickets. Tells you she really is awful to work with.

by Anonymousreply 392May 13, 2019 10:02 PM

How is Gemma saying she didn’t like the comment? There are screenshots.

by Anonymousreply 393May 14, 2019 1:45 PM

R393 maybe she’s claiming fat fingering it. I’ve done that on Instagram before. I go into my saves and something I never intended to save is there. I’ve also accidentally liked ads when I’m scrolling fast.

She’ll be lying, but it is possible to be scrolling and hitting like, like, like, without thinking about it.

by Anonymousreply 394May 14, 2019 1:57 PM

She has become a laughing stock in Hollywood overnight with other stars from other shows parodying her reaction with the renewal of their shows.

by Anonymousreply 395May 14, 2019 3:19 PM

[quote][R393] maybe she’s claiming fat fingering it.

Fat chance of anyone believing that. Physically speaking, she's the polar opposite of Chrissy Metz.

by Anonymousreply 397May 14, 2019 3:54 PM

ABC lady: we knew she had another opportunity...that's why we renewed the show, to screw that bitch.. Erm, I mean, we renewed because the show is strong.

by Anonymousreply 398May 14, 2019 4:34 PM

Good move. Keep her under contract forever, put her in Movie Jail, help her fade away. Far more satisfying than letting her off the hook.

by Anonymousreply 399May 14, 2019 4:41 PM

Of course, Laineygossip defends her. I miss the old Lainey when she would talk about the reputation of stars on set. Now Lainey is just obnoxious and pretentious with her "show your work" nonsense.

by Anonymousreply 400May 14, 2019 4:43 PM

Love the ABC comment at R396. Talk about a big fuck you:

"I’m going to choose to believe Constance’s most recent communication about the show that she’s happy to return and the cast and crew is happy to have her back.”

by Anonymousreply 401May 14, 2019 5:02 PM

Nothing against Constance (I actually like her candor), but if she doesn't want to be there, ABC should just recast her. There's some unemployed Asian actress out there who would be eager for this opportunity.

by Anonymousreply 402May 14, 2019 5:12 PM

[quote] There's some unemployed Asian actress out there who would be eager for this opportunity.

Wonderful news. Then that unemployed Asian actress can play the role Connie had to give up. Everybody wins!!

by Anonymousreply 403May 14, 2019 5:22 PM

I can't remember if my show in its last season in Costance's timeslot right now or if I have another one to shoot

by Anonymousreply 404May 14, 2019 6:40 PM

The problem is Constance *is* the show so recasting her would not work. Her darkly deadpan interactions with the other characters are the lifeblood of the series. Take that away and you’re left with bland supporting characters with no one to support.

by Anonymousreply 406May 14, 2019 7:32 PM

Lainey is so pathetic. She was talking up Hustler like it is going to be an awards contender. With J. Lo and Cardi B. as the leads? Sure. But let her have it. When Lainey crawls up someone's ass a career fallout or of is not too far behind.

"'This Is Us' was renewed for three years. Or as Constance Wu would call it, a death sentence."

by Anonymousreply 409May 14, 2019 11:27 PM

When has Lainey ever been relevant r400? She started as a snitch email group who would spread gossip from people who actually worked in entertainment. She’s a bitchy phony and a parasite like our own Perez.

Constance’s career is toast. They’ll keep the show going until her other opportunities dry up and then they’ll cancel the show. By which time she will have ruined her chance to work on ANY Disney project. She’s not coming back from this.

by Anonymousreply 421May 15, 2019 3:46 AM

Alas the world will now be denied of her Asian Pretty Woman reboot playing Vivian Wu, a struggling non English speaking Geisha flown into Beverly Hills to be the professional escort of a Japanese corporate raider in town to close a deal. Hilarity and romance would've ensued.

by Anonymousreply 423May 15, 2019 3:53 AM

by Anonymousreply 427May 15, 2019 4:23 AM

So when Jim Parsons wants off a show and cost the cast and crew their jobs, it’s all fine and dandy. But when Constance Wu wants off a show, it’s OMG, think about the cast and crew and how you’re taking away hundreds of jobs! Miss On Jenny at its finest!

by Anonymousreply 428May 15, 2019 4:31 AM

Jim Parsons had already fulfilled his initial contract; Wu hadn't.

From the Deadline article at r396:

[quote]But we never really considered not bringing back Fresh Off The Boat, it was just too strong.

This bitch from ABC is either completely full of shit, or ABC's bar for success is shockingly low. Fox's retirement center sitcom, The Cool Kids, which also aired on Friday nights, had more viewers and better demos (!) than Fresh Off the Boat -- and it was cancelled!!

by Anonymousreply 438May 15, 2019 2:55 PM

There is no way you can compare Jim Parsons to Constance Wu. BBT was on 12 years and the cast is set for life.

by Anonymousreply 439May 15, 2019 3:29 PM

The part she wanted was a starring role in The Eternals. I would be mad too if I had to give up being a part of the MCU. She gave up a franchise to do the last season of a shitty sitcom.

by Anonymousreply 440May 15, 2019 3:36 PM

I would be disappointed too but you express that in private. You always act professional.

by Anonymousreply 441May 15, 2019 3:42 PM

The examples above where the networks ran a show just long enough to make the actors miss out on better roles show a nasty pettiness that Wu may have been reacting to as well.

by Anonymousreply 442May 15, 2019 3:47 PM

I hope Gemma Chan gets the part in The Eternals.

by Anonymousreply 443May 15, 2019 4:11 PM

Fox had other reasons to cancel TCK -- they're getting wrestling on Friday nights this fall, so they don't need traditional programming. And I assume they figured TCK wouldn't do well on another night.

I will add, since the Fox-Disney merger, New Fox no longer owned the series.

by Anonymousreply 446May 15, 2019 4:44 PM

Gemma Chan is already in Marvel, even though it is a thankless role supporting Brie Larson in Ms. Marvel.

Being in Marvel movie #152 was her passion role? Girl, please. I think the Ant-Man movies are cute, but no one in Marvel had given an iconic, award worthy performance over there. Yes, I am aware that that the cast of Black Panther won a cast SAG. It was a great cultural moment, but no one standout performance. In fact, I think they wasted Angela Bassett.

DC has had iconic performances in the past and might again now that Snyder is finally gone along with some of the shitty top brass who made decisions somebody's dog would reject.

by Anonymousreply 447May 15, 2019 7:25 PM

we must not criticize any "diverse" show. They are all "hits" and "quality"

by Anonymousreply 448May 15, 2019 9:15 PM

It's a good guess that CRA was a big enough hit that the network figured let's see if we can get a bunch of those eye balls to tune in and watch one of the leads on the small screen. When they don't and they won't they'll axe the piece of shit. They figure it's worth one season just to see. I don't think it was a petty ploy on her. She's not important enough.

by Anonymousreply 453May 16, 2019 4:58 AM

sorry if already posted.

She's a bigger diva than J.Lo!!! is that even possible lol

An insider from the set of “Hustlers” said that while the actresses get along well, behind the scenes Wu is a way bigger diva than her more famous co-stars J.Lo and Cardi.

Wu “is a pain in the f–king ass. She just won’t agree to do anything,” the source said. “She refuses to do interviews, she won’t have visitors on her sets. It’s like a cliché. She is very talented — but all signs are pointing to a difficult diva.”

A third insider who worked with Wu added, “She’s a total piece of work. She thinks it’s OK to treat people badly and say out loud whatever comes to her. She’s the new Katherine Heigl, and if she’s not careful, her movie career will go in the same direction — downhill.”

Yet another source on the set of “Crazy Rich Asians” added that Wu “was standoffish and arrived to talk to reporters in a separate van from the cast, who came together. It was clear they didn’t socialize . . . She was icy cold, leaving it to Henry Golding to charm everyone.” At a screening last summer, Wu rolled her eyes when co-star Michelle Yeoh spoke.

Wu’s reps didn’t comment, but her team is begging her to be gracious, we’re told.

Bingo, r449.

It took how many posts for someone to apply some common sense to the situation? You bitches are slipping.

TPTB don't really give a fuck if she's "standoffish" with the rest of the cast or doesn't like reporters.

It's this quote that's problematic: [quote]She thinks it’s OK to treat people badly and say out loud whatever comes to her.

If she's a cunt above and below the line, that's going to be a problem for whoever casts her in any project. She's not a big enough draw for them to deal with it. A 40 year old, middling actor needs to turn down the cunt at this point.

by Anonymousreply 456May 16, 2019 5:51 AM

[quote] Bingo, [R449].It took how many posts for someone to apply some common sense to the situation? You bitches are slipping.

Uh, you two DO know the movie came out LAST summer, right? And there's been an entire season to test that theory already? And it didn't translate to more viewers.

by Anonymousreply 457May 16, 2019 5:56 AM

R455 Damn! I wonder why she's like that??

by Anonymousreply 458May 16, 2019 6:28 AM

I believe R455 but what I don't get it how she got that big of a head when she ISN'T THAT FAMOUS. With Heigl, it made sense as Grey's was one of the biggest shows in the world at the time and she had a regular string of movies. I'd never heard Wu's name before CRA.

You can't be that much of a bitch until you have enough money to never work again. JLO could do it. Connie can't.

by Anonymousreply 459May 16, 2019 7:26 AM

She was just born an entitled cunt. Many stories of her exhibiting the same behavior when she was a nobody on that tacky web series she did. Fame didn't make her a cunt. She already was one.

by Anonymousreply 469May 16, 2019 2:50 PM

Crazy Rich Asians is not going to be a franchise. It will obviously get a sequel, but the film did middling overseas, and the US market went out of curiosity, but no one is clamoring for more. If I was WB, I'd temper my expectations for the 2nd installment.

by Anonymousreply 470May 16, 2019 6:32 PM

It is a franchise. They are shooting the 2nd and 3rd one back to back.

by Anonymousreply 471May 16, 2019 6:47 PM

by Anonymousreply 479May 16, 2019 7:59 PM

[quote] Are you the delusional queen who said CRA was out of touch and the studios would regret it?

No. I'm simply looking at its worldwide performance and figuring what it means for future installments. I saw the movie on a plane. I felt fairly ambivalent about it. There was nothing particularly good about it, but it was inoffensively bland and simple. But unlike My Big Fat Greek Wedding, which was a grassroots, word of mouth hit, CRA was marketed up the wazoo to the tune of $60-70m, so it gave the illusion of being a WOM hit. In reality, people went, but they weren't recommending it the way Greek viewers did. And people were going back to see Greek 2, 3 times (why, I have no idea). I would liken CRA to the success the first Sex & The City film had. In the US only. SATC did double overseas what it did here. CRA's overseas take was roughly a third of what it was here.

We know CRA 2 will have a far larger budget, and a commensurate P&A spend. We also know that in most instances, sequels do 1/3-1/2 the business of the prior film in the US. SATC2 did $95m in the US, about 2/3 what the first one grossed. Even with horrendous reviews and WOM. Because people loved those characters and were willing to sit through garbage for them. I don't see that kind of devotion to the characters in CRA. I think the 2nd movie will do $75m tops, and likely cost over $100m when you factor in P&A. (I'm also not sure CRA really cost only $30m, but they may have gotten some breaks through the Chinese govt, which likely won't be repeated since the movie tanked there).

By the time you get to a third movie, especially in a franchise that's been exhibiting diminishing returns in the US, international grosses are usually the only thing making that third movie financially viable, but since we already know there is no international market for this franchise, they would be crazy to waste the considerable P&A money to release the third film theatrically and just give it a big push on a streaming platform. Especially if they're shooting the two films back-to-back, they won't be able to look at what made the 2nd film do poorly and come up with a gimmick to rescue the third. (e.g. the Back to the Future trilogy)

by Anonymousreply 481May 16, 2019 8:09 PM

So what was bitch Wu's "passion project" that was supposedly at the heart of her childish, uncalled for tantrum and over which she was prevented from participating in due to her commitment to FOTB?

by Anonymousreply 482May 16, 2019 8:17 PM

I thought the movie was so predictable. guess it's something the whole family can enjoy.

I liked the comedian in it. I don't know her name but she was funny.

I guess the whole point is this "prince" picks this "normal" and poor girl for marriage.

by Anonymousreply 483May 16, 2019 8:19 PM

[quote]r482 So what was bitch Wu's "passion project" that was supposedly at the heart of her childish, uncalled for tantrum and over which she was prevented from participating in due to her commitment to FOTB?

Surely something boring.

by Anonymousreply 485May 16, 2019 9:53 PM

I thought it was revealed that it was a role in the new Marvel movie "The Eternals." Was that incorrect?

by Anonymousreply 486May 16, 2019 9:55 PM

R486. I hope it was incorrect. I have no problems with comic book movies but there's no way they present material that would challenge anyone as an actor, so if that was the project that she said would, that's laughable.

by Anonymousreply 487May 16, 2019 10:00 PM

A comic book movie was going to stretch her acting abilities??

Okay.

by Anonymousreply 488May 16, 2019 10:01 PM

Oliver Stone's "Heaven and Earth II"

Give Connie the director she deserves.

by Anonymousreply 489May 16, 2019 10:01 PM

R488. A big, comic book movie would give her a big pay day.

by Anonymousreply 491May 16, 2019 10:16 PM

Yes. But she said she could play the character on FOTB very easily after 4 years, but the new project would have challenged her as an "actress".

Is it suddenly challenging to do fantasy/action flicks, acting wise?

by Anonymousreply 492May 16, 2019 10:44 PM

The project she has to turn down is an original sci-fi film called "Lost Planet". It was said to be "Solaris"-esque, not just typical visual effects yarn.

by Anonymousreply 494May 17, 2019 12:38 AM
