There I said it.
We got one effortless luminous performance out of her in KIDS, followed by a string of very stiff and uncomfortable performances with a few decent exceptions: Boys Don't Cry, Big Love, etc
Shes most at home and succesful playing passive aggresive, sullen and resentful bitches who think the world owes her more than shes gotten, a la her role as the has been rock star on Poker Face. I tend to think thats a feat of typecasting rather than a genuine gift for the craft though.
Am I being unfair? I do appreciate her as a cultural entity. And im sure shes catty fun to be around. But Swans is once again reminding me that she rarely seems up to the challenge of some of these roles she gets cast in

She's mannered and droll, like many are. Parker Posey, for example.
I liked her Pittsburg cop series. Because, WTF.

She's quite connected to many disciplines, acting, art and of course fashion. She's riding the 90's NYC It Girl Aesthetic until the wheels fall off. What I'd like to see from her is a less-studied performance. everything appears photo-ready, look what I'm doing.

| by Anonymous | reply 9 | February 4, 2024 7:56 AM |
I think she's usually very good, sometimes great. She excels at playing characters who are tightly-wound/repressed and seething, but she can also be quite funny too. One performance of hers that doesn't get enough credit is in the trippy techno-thriller "Demonlover" (2003). I thought her acting in that film was very naturalistic and compelling, which is sort of surprising given the out-there nature of the story, plus the fact that she's speaking French in it. She has some great moments playing Connie Nielsen's cunty assistant.
| by Anonymous | reply 10 | February 4, 2024 8:27 AM |
NYTimes article about when she raffled off the bulk of her wardrobe, all you need to know about her! I really think her role in Pokerface was kind of a brilliantly unvarnished stunt to pull off at her age. What other woman would’ve agreed to this??
I love her tenacity, would’ve LOVED to party with her in the 90’s, and just like Parker Posey, that she rails against being plain looking through fashion a la “The Emperor Has No Clothes”. She is NOT a conventional beauty, and rails against such a premise. A lot of women I’ve met while hairdressing on 5th Ave.are just like this- i.e, wearing form fitting, short silver sequined dress and steel toed combat boots.
I would be just like her if I were a woman.

FUN FACT: She and Topher Grace are from Darien, the richest town in Connecticut and #10 nationwide. Also, Chloë is several years older and used to babysit him at some point.
| by Anonymous | reply 12 | February 4, 2024 8:45 AM |
New Canaan is the richest I think. Darien is up there. WASP central.
Years ago when Chloe first broke out with the execrable movie “Kids” I didn’t get it. She was so homely and I couldn’t understand her appeal. But I realize through the years I have found her to be a weirdly appealing actress even though, no matter the role, she always comes across as stiff and mannered. She draws my attention. I can easily understand why people wouldn’t take to her, but for me, she works.

According to this recent article, only two New England towns (both in Connecticut) -- Darien (#10) and Old Greenwich (#14) -- ranked among the Top 20 wealthiest towns in America.
[quote]Looking at New England, Darien, Connecticut, ranks #10 on the list of America's richest towns, with the average household annual income at over $352,000, and average home values at $1.6 million. Darien is attractive for its 11 parks, 2 beaches, and various private clubs.
[quote]The other richest town in the top 20 list is also in Connecticut. It's no surprise that Old Greenwich is #16 on the list of richest towns in the country. Founded in 1641, Old Greenwich is part of the larger Greenwich, Connecticut, but with more history. Veranda.com says the train station is on the National Registry of Historic Places, and Tod's Point is one of the more beautiful public beaches in a very wealthy community. The average annual household income in Old Greenwich is $324,000.

She couldn’t pull of a Florida accent in Bloodline and it was distracting, not to mention she was way out of her league with Ben Mendelsohn. I realized how bad of an actor she was in that role.
| by Anonymous | reply 30 | February 4, 2024 11:55 AM |
Adding to my last post- I maybe shouldn’t say she’s a “bad actor,” but as others have mentioned she is very one note.
She can be funny, as in Big Love, and I enjoyed her in that role.
But girlfriend can’t do an accent to save her life. I can’t help but judge an actor on their ability to change their voice.

[quote]She couldn’t pull of a Florida accent in Bloodline
R30? I've been living in FL for 22 years and have yet to hear of a "Florida accent." The majority of people who live in FL (70% last time I checked) are not from FL, and the only distinctive regional accent I can think of is the southern accent you might hear in the Panhandle. In fact, the most common accents I've heard personally while living here are from Massachusetts/NE in general and Canadian.
So, please, enlighten me.

"Sevigny and her brother were raised in a strict Catholic household[9][10] in affluent Darien, Connecticut,[11] where her father worked first as an accountant, and then as an art teacher.[12] Despite Darien's wealth, the Sevignys had a "frugal" household, and were considered "the poor bohemians in [an] extremely prosperous neighborhood".[12] Sevigny has stated that her father "worked very hard to bring us up in that town ... He wanted us to grow up in a really safe environment."[13]
As a child, Sevigny was diagnosed with scoliosis, but never received any surgical treatment for it.[14] She often spent summers attending theater camp, with leading roles in plays run by the YMCA.[14][15] She attended Darien High School, where she was a member of the Alternative Learning Program. While in high school, she often babysat actor Topher Grace and his younger sister.[16] As a young teenager, she worked sweeping the tennis courts of a country club her family could not afford to join.[17]"

The majority of actors have limited range, she’s the same level of talent as many of her peers. She’s had a few roles (Kids, Boys Don’t Cry, Big Love) that have played wonderfully to her strengths.
I’ve met her socially a few times. She’s not at all pretentious or bitchy like she might come off as. Seems permanently stoned. Looks the same as in photos.

I really hope there isn't another six year wait for season 3 of Feud. I hope it tackles the messy divorce between Jocelyn and Alec Wildenstein. There were already several proposed concepts for both Feud and American Crime Story that would've done well but were scrapped at the last minute.
I don't get why several of Ryan Murphy's shows (Feud, Ratched and ACS) have had several year gaps between seasons. I'm guessing Ryan and that one note clout chaser Sarah Paulson had a huge falling out which is why Ratched is pretty much DOA. Evan seems to be gradually distancing himself as well from Count Orlock.

He was going to do a Hurricane Katrina season for "ACS," but the network balked, so he had to give it up, and he was going to do a Charles vs. Diana season for "Feud" but eventually Murphy realized (as he has himself admitted) he'd never be able to do that story as well as Peter Morgan was going to do it on "The Crown" (since Morgan had a far bigger budget and would be able to get much better British actors). Those false starts wasted years of planning time.
There was never going to be another season of "Ratched," even if Murphy has suggested otherwise. It was a bizarre curiosity, and could not have been kept going.

Also, Feud and American Crime Story require far more pre-production than just an additional season of something like an additional season of Glee. It’s essentially a new series every time, even more than American Horror Story, which at least kept a consistent theme and repertory cast.
Even without the delays that R128 rightlfully mentions, neither show was built to adhere to a fast-paced production schedule.

She’s a real disappointment in the disappointing Feud. Almost no range and zero vocal chops, can’t really deliver a line.
Coincidentally(?) she & Ryan Murphy have the same interior decorator. 🤔

I think her Oscar nomination was deserved and she has one of my all time favorite Oscar looks. That said, she's more of an interesting presence than an actress.

Does she have a sweet clitty?

She sucks a mean cock (and swallows, if I recall correctly; maybe not)

No, she's not good. With that voice, and the pronunciation of words? With how she seems to be reading dialogue?

Chloe Sevigny is excellent in Swan CZ Guest.

She's an ugly white girl from Darien. She's as dumb as a box of rocks, uneducated and illiterate. She performs graphic unsimulated fellatio on camera. She is a black hole on screen, wrecking any scene she's in. OP, you are correct.

Honestly, I think she’s perfect for C.Z. I would also buy her as a younger Martha Stewart.

R131 You invade a gay website and tell gay men what to think and how to act.
Have a calming mug of herbal tea. Cradle it wistfully, and listen to the empty wind whistling through your Golden Vagina.

I don’t really know who she is other than a celebrity but the details of her early life sound difficult to square.
I just can’t imagine what a “strict Catholic” and “bohemian” family is.

Why she wasn't also nominated for an AVN Award is beyond me.
