Can I ask my doctor to increase my xanax dosage?

I currently take it 2x a day but I would like it increased to 3x a day.

If you switched to an easily obtainable codeine-based cough syrup during the week you could save up the xanax for the weekend.

Or get through a few weeks and just take them all at the end of a month.

Please do, OP.

I thought about doing that but it's to much work @R1

How old are you OP? Benzo dependence is no joke and pure hell to get out of

by Anonymousreply 3October 22, 2017 7:02 PM

It is very easy to build up a benzo tolerance. Do not mean to scare you OP but you need to start tapering. I had a Heroin addiction I finally managed to get free from after 20 years and benzo are as bad if not worse to get off of. Do yourself a favor and learn to manage your stress without the need of a crutch. Many people have really rough lives that they manage to get through without any help, because they have no choice. Seek help if need be.

You do realize OP that r1 is a complete asshole ? Right ?

by Anonymousreply 5October 22, 2017 7:05 PM

You know how you stop taking Xanax? YOU STOP TAKING XANAX! Easy peasey really. Enough with the addiction sob stories.

by Anonymousreply 6October 22, 2017 7:17 PM

OP: Have you thought about switching to heroin?

by Anonymousreply 7October 22, 2017 7:18 PM

R4 actually Xanax can be a very effective and necessary last-ditch treatment for severe anxiety— the kind that people CAN'T just positive-attitude their way through. I take a very low dose daily and it has changed my life after years of failed treatment. No high, no abuse, and my psychiatrist monitors my usage.

However OP I would agree that it's not a good idea to go down the road of upping your dosage because of the potential for abuse. Talk with your doctor about it and see if their are other alternatives, like combining Xanax with other less addictive meds.

This is one of the many problems of DTC pharma advertising.

How about going to a doctor who knows what he's doing, get diagnosed, and looking at treatment options which may actually address (or god forbid, solve) problem, rather than going to a pill jockey to get a prescription after self-diagnosing how best to treat the symptoms.

by Anonymousreply 9October 22, 2017 7:44 PM

Stick with the two a day. If you ask your doctor for more he might think you have a problem and decide you have been on them too long and want to stop writing them for you

There's a lot of pressure on doctors to stop prescribing controlled substances (xanax, benzos, codeine, etc) to their patients

"Too" much work, lazy-ass hovering OP/R2 looser.

by Anonymousreply 13October 22, 2017 7:57 PM

OP - it would be helpful if you mentioned the Mg. (.25, .5, 1mg??)

by Anonymousreply 14October 22, 2017 8:11 PM

"I thought about doing that but it's to much work"

oh dear!

OP, I'm providing a link to a weird drug forum. There is a lot of information on benzos here, many of the users use them illegally.

There are threads on there that talk about withdrawing from Xanax. Many heroin users say they felt sorry for the benzo addicts while in rehab. Be really careful with your Xanax use.

Have you considered valerian root?

No, this is the opposite of how you stop taking it. YOU MUST TAPER OFF OF BENZOS. I didn't, and I went crazy. Had no idea why. That's what it was, I found out later.

by Anonymousreply 19October 23, 2017 1:17 AM

Is 18mg per day too much? I'm concerned.

by Anonymousreply 20October 23, 2017 1:23 AM

Not to mention you could have a stroke or siezure if you stop taking benzos or ambien cold turkey. Get onto a tapering schedule of reducing by a quarter of a pill every 2-3 weeks. This makes withdrawal much more manageable.

R20 I hope you're trolling

YOU MUST TAPER OFF ON BENZOS.
