LOL when he was talking about the first pride parade in Tokyo. I was living there at the time and was in it. Very small and quiet... most of the Japanese marchers wore masks (venetian style, not medical) which I thought rather flew in the face of "Pride", but whatever.
I know many Japanese that for various reasons, STILL haven't come out to their parents, and have married the opposite sex, had children etc, all to satisfy what is expected of them by society and especially - their parents.
He's right about the gay scene in Ni-chome. It used to be very underground, but that has really changed. A few bars spill out on to the street now where it used to be all very cloak and dagger. Even mentioning "Ni-chome" to someone used to get a very Japanese reaction, like "what would you be doing in such a place?", where as now, it's become a little more mainstream, disappointingly so.

I watch Japanese gay porn and I find in fascinating. First of all, just the sheer quantity of it. And second, how many different guys there are who are willing to do it -- and most of them don't seem to have a problem with bottoming, even though they're clearly gay for pay. So different from the majority of American gay porn stars. I wish I understood the language because there's frequently a short interview segment with some of the new performers before they take the plunge.
I'd be interested to know from someone with experience or knowledge in the area whether there's less of a stigma about doing porn, doing GAY porn, or bottoming in Japan.
