I've been kind of into Arab dudes for a while now, and was thinking of travelling to Algeria or Turkey or Iran and seeing what I might find (prior to this Covid situation).
Yes, I know their cultures are not openly supportive of same-sex activities, and that there are laws against it...but a bi friend of a friend years ago did some teaching in Arab countries and came back claiming there were tons of horny guys there and a sort of underground gay network. He didn't say more than that, and I've always wondered about his experiences.
If you've traveled to those countries yourself, I'd be curious to hear what your experiences were like. Were there frantic hookups and a constant fear of discovery? Did guys fool around in public baths/saunas or only in their homes? Were they mostly bottoms or tops? Were they all married? Did men who saw you as a gay tourist openly look down on you? Were you scared or did you feel safe?
Thanks for the insights.

I love Arab dick. But traveling to Iran of all places? Seriously? You must not be American. Is it common to travel to Iran for other countries?
| by Anonymous | reply 1 | April 22, 2020 3:19 PM |
Turkey and Iran are not Arab countries. Same-sex activity is de jure permitted in Turkey (though de facto discrimination forces the scene underground), whereas in Iran the punishment is imprisonment and/or death. Since Americans have been barred from independent travel to Iran since the Revolution, you'd have better luck hanging around diaspora centers of West Los Angeles or Toronto if you want to sample Persian guys.
I was in Lebanon last summer and guys on the apps were extremely aggressive and desperate, most without pictures. One guy I talked to said that widespread stigma (even in relatively cosmopolitan Beirut, to say nothing of the more conservative hinterlands) meant most guys do not get tested or treated for STIs. As in Italy, guys who are not married tend to still live with their parents, even if they're employed.
Guys in Egypt are now the target of gay bashers using the apps to lure them to unsafe places, as has been happening in Russia for years now.

The Arab world consists of 22 Arab countries. Those countries are Jordan, Palestine, Syria, Lebanon, Morocco, Mauritania, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Sudan, Somalia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, the Comoros Islands, Iraq, Djibouti, and the United Arab Emirates.
Given this information, I've been with someone from Egypt (met up in Egyptain hotels several times and he was a top) and a guy from Saudi Arabia who I met in Warsaw and was a major bottom.
As for safety, I'm careful no matter where I meet men. Even in countries who are open to the gays, I don't take anything for granted.
| by Anonymous | reply 9 | April 22, 2020 4:03 PM |
Whooo 22 countries. If they got their shit together they'd be a superpower. I wonder what their combined population is.

You can pick up Arabs in other cooler countries - Paris is full of Arabs and so is London, but if I were you I'd stop off in Paris or somewhere like Marseilles first.
Morocco used to be the place to go for London gays, but the scene sounds terrible there now. They really cracked down on gays.
| by Anonymous | reply 13 | April 22, 2020 5:00 PM |
If you want to read about being gay, Arab, and living in a repressive society, read Guapa by Saleem Haddad.
| by Anonymous | reply 15 | April 22, 2020 5:25 PM |
Where the Arab world is on gays is not that far removed from being gay in America circa before 2000. Blacks were treated here like gays are treated in the Arab world now. Blacks were lynched with almost impunity for decades. American conservatives, especially evangelicals, would love to be able to treat gays like most Arab or Muslim countries do.
R14 that guy makes me thirsty. Yum. I saw a straight porn with an guy who looked like that, wearing the head garb, nailing this white girl. It was so hot but I cannot find it now.

OP horrible idea you have there, why not travel to Hamtramck Michigan which has a Muslim majority. If you must go to the Middle East then how about Bahrain or UAE where they are more likely to look the other way if your sexual desires become known. I have talked to a couple of Saudi guys on line and that is where they go.

It is easily possible for non-Americans to go to Iran, I've been - no sex though. In fact when I was there (2017), Americans could also travel there, but only as part of an organised tour group.
Istanbul is more open and liberal than the rest of Turkey and gay bars used to be able to operate without too much hassle. Dunno about right now though with the current political climate. Like a poster above, I'd recommend London, Berlin, (especially) Paris, or Bangkok. Lots of traffic between Iran and SE Asia or China for business, while lots of North Africans migrate to France. Guys from repressive cultures can go very wild and free when they end up in a big city outside their home country. I have very fond memories of a Bahraini I met in Bangkok once, for example....

This is a very interesting question, OP. I hear that some of the countries you mentioned might not be Arab. I am in the process of assembling a Blue Ribbon Commission to investigate this matter further. The first step will be to determine whether a) these are arabic countries and then b) whether they are receptive to man-on-man sexual encounters. I'm pleased to introduce the first two appointees to my team.

Only came in to say that my sister’s longterm boyfriend is a wealthy New Money boy from Cairo, and he has implied to me that he left Egypt for a middleclass life scraping by the U.K. for the most part because his bisexuality & outspoken atheism was becoming known to his family thanks to an informant. He hero-worships his tyrannical father & uncles, but I gather that they’d have no compunction seeing him arrested or killed if he were caught consorting or shacking up with men in the open or a romantic way. Behind firmly closed & locked doors it’s a different story, of course - men do what they like, as men do all across the world.

Turks are not Arabs, but Istanbul is the only city in that part of the world that I found cosmopolitan and secular enough to pursue this type of game. (Although like R3 says, I've heard things about Beirut). Even so, in Turkey, things have taken a dip for the negative within the last decade or so.

Oh, and for the record, there are plenty of Arab men in Turkey. Let's please avoid a discussion on what Turkish really implies, as they are a mélange as it is culturally. The Turks may not be very keen on them, but Arabs love Turkey, and I have met several who have settled there after a few holidays.

The ignorance here reflects the ignorance of Americans in general...
Turkish men and women are not Arabs. They're Turks. They speak Turkish. You will also find minorities of Greeks, Armenians, and Kurds in Turkey. They are also not Arabs. There are Arabs in Turkey.
Iranians are not Arabs. they are Persians. they speak Farsi, not Arabic.
Even the most "liberal" Arabic countries in the Middle East are very socially conservative, and gay sex is illegal. Even if you go to the nightclubs, cafes, Coffee houses and other places (which you need in advance to know that cater to men seeking sex with other men), is a blowjob worth a jail sentence in a repressive society?
If you want a blowjob from an Arab guy or give one to an Arab guy, frequent any number of venues in cities with large Arab communities in the West.

R45 BPC you have summed it up quite nicely, but I should add there are plenty of Jews still living in Turkey as well. Some are mixed families, and completely assimilated, and others not so much. It should also be said that very few Turks speak or write Arabic as well. It probably isn't even a popular third language chosen as an elective.

Thank you, R47. I had a friend in college, who was a Turkish Jew. She could trace her family's origins back to Catalonia from when the were expelled in the early sixteenth century.

Gay sex is easy to find in Turkey. They are Turks by the way. Go to Bodrum for example. Or Izmir or Istanbul of course.
I have fucked guys in Algeria. I was in my 20s and 30s and handsome. No issues. Not easy to find but once you are plugged in, possibilities arise. I wouldn't do it now in my 50s, which would be tawdry. I guess with aps it's easy to find in any country. But places like Algeria or Iran will have very local under the radar apps in the local language.

When I was young and pretty I used to live near Marble Arch in London, which has a large Arab community. I used to get cruised all the time, and chased down the street on a few occasions. I occasionally allowed myself to get caught. The best was a very handsome, business type daddy from Kuwait. He took me back to his beautiful flat in a prestigious mansion block, and had his servant (!) make a meal for me. Then he took me into the bedroom and fucked me senseless for hours. When I was leaving he said, “I am not a homosexual”.

If it's the dark stuff you want, any of you, save air fare, just get to Queensway in London. Busy/active. Nearby toilet on the Bayswater Road is convenient, behind is Kensington Gardens. A few summes ago I was in the park, 2pm-ish, a torrid beauty, albeit a bit short, came along, took me in the bushes to fuck himi. I had to oblige. Two tube stops nearby, the area is crawling with good-looking men.

Definitely agree that mysogeny is a big part of homophobia.

You do realize you are speaking about dozens of countries and hundreds of millions of people ranging all the classes, and rural to international big cities. Do really expect there is a pattern about where you will have the sex? How small town provincial are you?
| by Anonymous | reply 65 | April 25, 2020 2:40 PM |
I am half Arab (French national), and honestly I think the reports of how dangerous it is have been greatly over exaggerated, perhaps due to xenophobia, media conditioning, or the vicious stereotypes on here... Though you should still of course be careful wherever you go, especially as a tourist. I am just as cautious in Egypt as I am in Italy or Croatia or Cuba. But no, you are not going to be beheaded for hooking up with someone in Beirut lol. Maybe don't suck someone's dick on the street, but that goes without saying.
Yes, families are conservative. But what I have found is that many of them know about their gay children and family members, and don't mind at all as long as you 'do not bring shame on the family name', so to speak. Most gays I have come across in those countries have the full support of their siblings too, which is nice (there are a lot of sisters supporting their gay brothers even when the parents won't - arab children are raised to be quite close to their siblings).
I will also add that most authority figures in these countries are.... not very bright or worldly. Many of them will not be able to tell you are gay, no matter how pinging and flaming you are lol. I have come across some really fem, Adam Rippon type arab gays and their families and friends are none-the-wiser. Let alone the archaic police systems. I guess it helps us 'be invisible' that so many arab men are obsessed with their appearance, live in the gym, have super coiffed hair and long eyelashes, tight clothes, etc.
The countries you are most likely to enjoy gay sex are the North African countries. Especially in the resort towns (Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt, Sidi Bou Said in Tunisia, and several pockets of Morocco and Algeria). These have a similar, but much gentler gay luxury vibe to Mediterranean countries such as Greece. Aside from that, your best bet is Lebanon and Jordan, where the social laws and belief in Islam is more relaxed, and there are quite a few discreet underground spots and even more public venues that are commonly accepted to be places for 'single men'. Lebanon especially is very modern (they just legalised cannabis for medical use, before countries like Australia) and you can literally see Greece and Cyprus from the beach there, they also have a huge nightlife and club/bar scene. There are a lot of gay men there who enjoy the company of tourists.

R63 Spot on, and good to hear such shenanigans of the highest order are still going on there! There's a rather popular American style shopping mall in the neighbourhood nearby which can be quite cruisey as well. (Whitely's, just down Queensway) I spent much of my teens and early adulthood living in Bayswater.
It was populated with a multitude of Arabs and Turks since the mid to late eighties when we moved there from Putney Bridge.... perhaps even earlier; I'm not quite sure. There were the cruisy hotspots for nasty jollies if you will back then, as well. I fondly recall even being outright flirted with by a sexy Turk working in a kebab shop...telling me what a "handsome young man I was"... I suppose not ironically, my experience ended up not unlike West Ender's tale in R60.
After subsequent visits, and similar flirtatious exchanges, (being young, and a bit naïve I had to make certain it wasn't in my head) we arranged to meet in a pub near Princes Square, and ended up back at his flat after a snogfest.
Though he obviously enjoyed himself, he repeatedly told me he wasn't homosexual. Though he was probably mid-thirties, and I was only nineteen or twenty, I was madly disappointed, and wanted it to become a relationship. Throughout my twenties I came to realise these men were only interested in sex, and probably had very oppressive families.
