Is it just me or have the ads on youtube gone crazy recently? I used to get an ad once in a while but now it's a 30 second ad before every single video, and not the kind you can skip after a few seconds. Is it just the videos I'm watching? Did AdBlock stop working on youtube? What's changed?

Even when I hit the skip ad icon, the ad continues to play. I've also on accasion, encountered three minute recipe ads. Little by little, someone is taking away our fun. Remember when Datalounge used to be fun?

If Youtube doesn't change this, it'll lose business to a new imitator.

I think it's because their policy is changing to a two tiered system with a pay option

I find it particularly annoying when you're watching an instructional video (such as a yoga sequence) and an ad begins playing right in the middle of the thing. It's often at a very inconvenient time, since the videos weren't filmed to accommodate breaks in the action.
A few companies seem to have caught onto the fact that an online ad doesn't need to be as long as one shown on TV. I've seen several that were just a few seconds, and got right to the point. Those would be less obnoxious - some of the ads are longer than the actual video you're trying to watch.
It's also ridiculous when you're trying to watch an advertisement (such as a movie trailer) on the distributor's official channel, and have to watch an ad before you can do that. So stupid.

I can't believe that some 30 second videos are headed by four minute ads...

Ads?
Adblock plus, available on any browser.

R6, exactly.
I'm so tired of reading bitch fests about YouTube ads when a simply free program removes all adds entirely from YouTube and most websites. I haven't watched a YouTube ad in years.
ADBLOCK PLUS

Are you talking about the YouTube app or the desktop site. I've never seen an ad on the actual website but occasionally there are 15 to 30 second ads on the app that you can skip after 5 seconds.

I have AdBlock Plus on Firefox and it's not stopping the ads. It's the current version so I don't know what's changed. I've only noticed the influx of ads in the last couple weeks.

I've noticed the ads getting both longer and more often are unskippable.

It's so damn frustrating when you just want to watch an ad you saw on TV... and YouTube makes you watch a fucking AD before showing you the AD!
AUGH!

I have noticed the uptick in ads and I have AdBlock Plus installed. Looks like more people will be heading to Vimeo if it continues. Fine by me, since it'll be one less tether Google has on us.

Yes, it’s gotten absolutely ridiculous lately. Glad it’s not just me that’s noticed that. I wish someone could come up with something to block the ads on both TV and phone.

YouTube Premium is just $11.99 a month.
It eliminates all ads.

R16 To those of us on a tight budget, it’s not “just” $11.99.

Tubi has a lot of quality content that I would pay for and they don't have the the ridiculous amount of ads that Youtube does. Why should we get more ads on Youtube content when most of it is stuff we would never pay to watch? The few worthwhile contributors have moved on to Patreon as they are seeing even less revenue despite the constant ads.

I keep refreshing the video. Usually, refreshing a video once would remove the ad, but now I do it up to 8 times. Sometimes I keep having to refresh the video just to save it on my queue to watch later. Ridiculous.
