I never see this book mentioned on here, but I'm sure lots here must be familiar with it.
It's over 30 years old now. Interestingly she skewers DL non-faves Scott Rudin and Cybill Shepherd, so maybe she was way ahead of the curve?

I tried reading it as a younger gayling but couldn't get into it. Now that I have more wisdom and fashionable clothing, I should give it another try.

It was a fun and dishy read.

I’ve enjoyed reading it at least 3 times. I liked Julia Phillips.

She calls Rudin a "fat slob" but doesn't mention his main problem, that he's a monster. Was his behavior better way back then? Or were her observational powers off because of all the stuff she put up her nose?

Goldie Hawn R5. She says she's dirty -- as in doesn't bathe.

Here's a 10-year old thread about it.

The amount of dish in the book is relatively minimal and not that interesting, it’s a mostly a chronicle of Phillips’ messy life. She wrote it because she was broke.

She got into freebase quite heavily.

Some of it was touching, (like her recollections of Mama Cass) but some of it was cruel. I thought her comments about Cybill Shepherd and Kathleen Turner were in very poor taste. I get wanting to take shots at those who've wronged you, but some of it was just being mean for the sake of it. She eviscerated Goldie Hawn, but after reading about the troubled pre-production of Fear of Flying, you couldn't really blame her for doing so.
Her description of Blythe Danner as some annoying, shrieking harpy led to me to never believe the DL lore than she was some blameless victim in the upbringing of GOOP.

I read the whole thing in two days. If you have any interest in the Hollywood star making machinery of the 1970s pick up a copy on abebooks.

OP, it used to be talked about here ALL the time.
| by Anonymous | reply 13 | May 8, 2022 1:12 AM |
It was VERY dishy when it was published in the early '90s about Hollywood of the '70s and early '80s. It's old hat now, since the dish is about people like Goldie and Richard Dreyfuss and Spielberg, and nowadays current celebs show their absolute worst excesses and impulses on social media every single day.
But at the time, it was heady stuff. If you're interested in Hollywood history, you'll probably enjoy it.

Her sane-seeming ex hubby is still around, and her son in law Modi Wiczyk is a Hollywood power broker

She exposed the widespread practice of witchcraft in Hollywood by the biggest people in the business. They really believe that witchcraft is the reason for their success.

I think we think that, but really they might show us 5% at most.

I devoured that book when it came out. At the time it seemed to be very revealing and shocking at times, it was like a really mean Andy Warhol. I wish that she had kept diaries and they will be published.

Richard Dreyfus was a big cokehead.

I wish it was on Kindle! Everyone, go to Amazon and tell them you want to read it on Kindle.
It's a huge book and I have arthritis.

True r19. Celebs get up to a lot more shit than what the public sees on social media. The number of closet cases is nuts.

She was scary and fabulous.
