Was on another well known liberal message board (not going to mention the name) and Taibbi was getting trashed by posters there.

Because he worked with and was paid by Elon Musk to push a false and unfounded narrative about Twitter bias against conservatives? When actually the opposite was found to be true?
He didn't report those findings - only what Elon wanted him to.
He completely ruined his entire career and reputation by sucking up to that monster. Just like everyone else who has sold their soul for conservatives' money.

This OP troll:
Should DL start using AI moderators? The Yahoo Finance message boards were recently revamped. Now when you type a post an algo parses the post and auto-rejects if it feels offensive. For example I was typing a post that referenced the tooth fairy and a generic warning came up presumably because fairy is offensive to LGBTQ+ and the word is blocked by the algo. It refused to allow me to complete the post. And if you keep trying to make a post that has been blocked already you get put on a time out for a couple days.
Should Muriel implement an AI system like this?

He was one of the investigative reporters who had material from the Twitter files hand over to him.

Taibbi has deep ties to Russia and is clearly on Putin's payroll. Musk has deep ties to Russia and clearly took $billions of Putin's money to buy Twitter. The link is demonstrable and it is not hard to understand why liberals dismissed Taibbi (and Musk in the same vein).

It would be exceptional if there were a "liberal message board" that wasn't trashing Taibbi. The audience for these people is all on the right now. That's what happens when playing footsie with Russia/Putin is more important to you than anything else.

I'm all for exposing biases, but when you're shown that it was the Trump admin alone who actually attempted to censor people and you ignore that in your "twitter files," then no person with a modicum of decency buys that you're actually about exposing the truth. Musk and Taibbi are hypocritical trash with a garbage agenda
has anyone verified if indeed a visit was made?
WASHINGTON — The White House declined to comment Wednesday on an IRS agent’s visit to journalist Matt Taibbi’s home on the same day that he testified to a House subcommittee investigating the “weaponization” of government.
The surprise March 9 door-knock came as the “Twitter Files” collaborator described his reporting on how the government pressured social media platforms to censor online speech.
The Post asked at the first White House press briefing since the news of the visit broke Monday about whether the visit was “part of a campaign to harass or intimidate [Taibbi] related to his journalism.”
White House spokesman John Kirby, coordinator for strategic communications at the National Security Council, declined to provide a substantive reply.
“I’m afraid I’m going to have to refer you to the IRS,” he said succinctly.
𝑰𝑹𝑺 𝒉𝒂𝒔 𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒏𝒆𝒘𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒅 questions on the roust. If Tabbi made it up they would have very loudly and publicly denied it already making Tabbi look bad.

They had called before hand, by a couple weeks - perhaps to schedule the visit.
Ends up it was about some concern about Identity Theft. The IRS had concerns about some of Taibbi's previous tax paperwork which looked like he MIGHT be a VICTIM of ID theft. Taiibbi confirms this.
The coincidence/timing of their visit did look sketchy, tho.

Once again, the MAGAts project. You know who actually weaponized the IRS to go along with abuse of power of every other agency? Ask Comey and McCabe .

R31, but if they had called ahead to schedule the visit, Taibbi knew weeks ahead of time when they were coming. He had agreed to that date. He could have asked them to come another day. It’s all manufactured drama on his part.
He made trips to Russia. No doubt Vlad has some Kompromat on him--I'm thinking underage girls.
More than "made trips," R33. He LIVED and WORKED in RUSSIA for more than 6 years. And the sex Kompromat might just be a valid concern based on what he and his friends wrote about in Russia.
Taibbi first moved to Russia in 1992. He lived and worked in Russia and the former USSR for more than six years. In 1997, he left the tabloid Living Here and joined Mark Ames to co-edit the English-language Moscow-based, bi-weekly free newspaper, The eXile, which was written primarily for the city's expatriate community. The eXile's tone and content were highly controversial. For example, [bold]a regular column reported on a member of staff at The eXile hiring a Russian prostitute and then writing a long "review" of the woman and the details of the sexual encounter.[/bold] Its content was considered either brutally honest and gleefully tasteless or juvenile, misogynistic, and even cruel. In the US media during this time, Playboy magazine published pieces on Russia by Taibbi or by Taibbi and Ames. Taibbi's first book, The Exile: Sex, Drugs, and Libel in the New Russia, co-authored with Ames, was published in 2000.
Taibbi wrote in English and Russian, Apart from The eXile, Taibbi was also employed by the English-language newspaper The Moscow Times, where he worked as a sports editor for five months. He also contributed to Komsomolskaya Pravda, Trud, Stringer, and Kommersant

Taibbi is one of those strange cases where a one hit wonder hack writer gets a plum story, and suddenly leagues of people fancy him a genius, or a superior intellect. Many progressives knew he was never all that, and had questioned some of his leanings over the years. He's another Glengarry Glen Greenwald is what he is. Simply put, anyone Musk were to "hand pick" is suspect in my mind, not unlike Trump.Taibbi's in good stead alongside Bari Weiss, and Greenwald.
I've always found his smug entitled demeanour to be typical of so many frat bro types; he seems to lack an overall sense of professionalism, and he never was any good at debate. He's a sad stereotype of an ageing, yet still raging pothead. Medhi Hasan sure handed him his arse on a silver platter! I don't think Taibbi had any real clue who Hasan actually is.
Begging an invite to appear on Hasan's show to discuss Musk's censorship, and collusion with PM Modi, as regards Indian journalists and politicians on Twitter, then pretending to be completely ignorant of the controversy boggles the mind! I believe he was stoned.
I've posted here a few years back about what a creep he is on a personal level. A professor I was friendly with ages ago dated Taibbi long before he met his wife. She said he was insanely jealous, controlling, and narcissistic. Before they permanently parted ways, and were on a break, he placed a GPS tracking device on her car! He was stalking and gaslighting her for months after she split.

Taibbi’s father was reporter for CBS and NBC news. He was with NBC for decades. That’s why it’s funny that he’s slagging MSNBC, whose parent company basically paid for everything Taibbi had since birth. Taibbi didn’t work his way up. He was born at the top of the NY news media heap. Kind of like a certain real estate developer who denies he had it easy from the get go. Nepo baby.

| by Anonymous | reply 40 | April 10, 2023 1:58 AM |
The whole "IRS agents knocked on my door!" bullshit is so easily dismissed: Taibbi knew he was scheduled to testify to Congress on that day, and purposefully scheduled the friendly visit to make it look like the IRS was targeting him for his "exposé" and testimony. Thankfully, the only people falling for it are the mental midgets now running the House.

Matt Taibbi has now moved to Trump's Truth Social platform.
I've been laughing at people who still consider him to have journalistic standards and integrity. His downright embarrassment of an interview with Mehdi Hasan solidified the fact that he is a tool. This move aligning himself with Trump's propaganda social network only reconfirms that fact.
