What's the most lonely generation? No surprises, it is Gen Z. Those born between 1997-2012 report feeling quite alone.

Because judging by my nieces' daily activities they're stuck inside their rooms staring at their phones all day.

Anyone who has any questions about why these kids are the most lonely generation needs to spend time on any college campus and see their social non-interaction and non-social skills. It's scary.
| by Anonymous | reply 2 | March 3, 2023 9:45 PM |
Because they lack the interpersonal skills to interact with live people. Not surprising at all.

r1 Sometimes I idly wonder how the world would react if every data center for Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, Google, Microsoft as well as AWS just suddenly went offline all at once.
This would, of course, interrupt a lot of jobs also; specifically if Google, Microsoft, and AWS (Amazon Web Services) went offline, but a small part of me doesn't really care about that either.

This is but a glimpse of the chaos that would ensue if AWS went offline for an extended period of time.

I used to have a lot of friends (when I was in high school and early college) but I just turned 25 and hardly have any. It’s really hard. The loneliness and the fear of missing out is real. I have a shitty family too (alcoholic father) so it’s not like I can turn to them for support.

They all seem like they're neurotic and pilled up. But sweet and well-intentioned.

I'd have bet Boomers would be the loneliest since they're likely in assisted living/rest homes now.

Jesus, Gen Z is the most TIRESOME generation. The result of helicopter parenting (the 'me' generation), the notion that 'everyone or no one gets a trophy', and a soft, bubble wrapped existence where they desperately try to make every moment of their lives "safe" and inoffensive. It's a privileged fantasy land. It's also a fucking chore to endure and the echo chamber that IS social media has only enabled all these bad ideas/attitudes/ideologies all the more.
Life is dangerous. Life is unfair. Not everyone will get a trophy. No one is owed respect or kindness. And this SHOULD be okay to accept. But they've been hardwired to believe they're unicorns and "special" without having to accomplish anything of note. It's a horrible precedent. Add to that, the daily doom scrolling they're doing on Twitter, and the pressure to take on the plight of every person and cause around them (and virtue signal the day away behind their screens), it's no wonder they're all anxious and needing meds before they even graduate middle school.
It's also a sign that they've had too good. There's no one being conscripted to war -- and less dramatically, there's no one out going without an iPhone or computer. And the Gen Z's that DO NOT fall into this category AREN'T the ones making the noise. They've got more serious problems that misgendering, pronouns and ideological censorship.
It's a sign of privilege and elitism that so many have made these ridiculous things their crusade. Stop being brats, be grateful and realize no one owes you SHIT.

r9 Um. We kinda started it. We were the first generation to start receiving participation trophies.
We're also responsible for the hypersensitive emo trend which, let's be real, has just morphed into the enby TQs of today with Gen Z.
Between songs like "The Anthem" by Good Charlotte, "Numb" by Linkin Park, and literally every record by My Chemical Romance, we were clearly the OG "whiny and entitled" generation. Gen Z learned from us. We should be deeply ashamed.

Some attitude.

R6 It seems almost impossible to get new friends as an adult...so there are many like you..u need to find each other. A friend recently joined an lgbt organised hiking group..there were 50 guys on it. Maybe check if ur local lgbt helpline, service runs such groups...it might be a book reading club or old movies...but it's somewhere I would start. Good luck.

R6 yep, I feel that. Like you, when I turned 25 (several years ago), I looked around and realised I had literally no friends, as well as a 90% shitty unreliable and distant family. And it seems so hard these days to make any decent consistent friendships in the Gen Z/Y age bracket.
Unlike you I wasn't ever popular or sociable to start with, though, so I am accustomed to loneliness and sadly this meant I was unmotivated to do much about it. It's down the line and I still have no friends, and am just starting to come back into the world and social spaces after years of agoraphobia (COV!D didn't help with that, but it's no excuse).
Don't be me.

R8 as long as the Boomers got their Golden Girls theys as happy as pigs in shit.

Maybe put the phones away and actually speak to people. Too much screen time...

As a Gen Xer I honestly feel like a dinosaur nowadays, the world has been radically altered by technology. These kids think that hanging out on a discord server constitutes socializing. We grew up as the last generation forced to think on its feet sans the internet , the 70s and 80s are starting to look mighty seductive to me lately. Even the bitterish 90s had its charms. I don't blame the Z's, I just wish they were a tad less up their own butts.

I was checking out my groceries....the cashier did not say one word to me. After ringing me up and I was still still bagging my food, he immediately pulled out his phone and didn't look up. After paying, no "thank you" or "good bye". He was a young man. No words were exchanged at all. The social skills are lacking in many people.

r18 They don't have self-checkout at your grocery store? I avoid the manned registers like the plague. Mainly because I don't want to be considered rude for not interacting with the cashiers who are talkative.
I personally wouldn't have even noticed the guy.
