Why does DL dislike Quentin Tarantino and his films?

I've seen this opinion expressed in other threads.

I'm just curious for some reasons.

A lot of them are straight guy schlock.

by Anonymousreply 1May 7, 2019 7:47 PM

I think he's made some good ones. Pulp Fiction is pretty entertaining and the Kill Bill movies are great. I even liked his segment of Grindhouse.

by Anonymousreply 2May 7, 2019 7:58 PM

I loved the Kill Bill movies.

by Anonymousreply 3May 7, 2019 8:12 PM

The Hateful Eight is my favorite. Just watched the new extended version on Netflix. Now structured as four separate episodes.

This is the only movie of his I've watched completely again. He has technical talent but uses it on silly rehashes.

by Anonymousreply 4May 7, 2019 8:14 PM

Because they're too violent and sexist. And homophobic - never any gay characters in them. I wouldn't waste any more money on them.

by Anonymousreply 5May 7, 2019 8:16 PM

DL has collectively filed him under "hack." He and his foot fetish are persona non grata here.

by Anonymousreply 6May 7, 2019 8:16 PM

Pulp Fiction was an overrated piece of shit.

by Anonymousreply 7May 7, 2019 8:17 PM

There's not much to like about them, OP.

by Anonymousreply 9May 7, 2019 8:18 PM

People with taste usually don't like ketchup.

by Anonymousreply 10May 7, 2019 8:18 PM

I like alot of his films. Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown and the first Kill Bill are very entertaining with great performances. I wasnt that keen on Django Unchained but still Samuel L Jackson is brilliant in that.

by Anonymousreply 11May 7, 2019 8:19 PM

I like Tarantino and his films.

So piss off, Aspie Pop Name-Dropping Shit Stirrer.

by Anonymousreply 12May 7, 2019 8:20 PM

Loved Inglorious Bastards.

by Anonymousreply 13May 7, 2019 8:21 PM

R13That was way too violent and both female leads were killed in terrible ways. Tarantino is a sick man.

by Anonymousreply 14May 7, 2019 8:22 PM

Because he is the Glen Quagmire of Hollywood.

Giggity.

by Anonymousreply 15May 7, 2019 8:23 PM

Because he's ugly and looks a bit deformed.

by Anonymousreply 17May 7, 2019 8:25 PM

Boys with issues like his movies.

by Anonymousreply 18May 7, 2019 8:25 PM

Because he's a big steaming turd.

by Anonymousreply 20May 7, 2019 8:27 PM

He's the type of guy that would be a regular at the pornhouse if he weren't famous.

by Anonymousreply 21May 7, 2019 8:28 PM

They're gratuitously violent. And they do seem to indicate a deep seated hatred towards women. And they practically scream" AREN'T I JUST THE COOLEST, MOST EDGY DIRECTOR ON THE FACE OF THIS PLANET?" All that aside from the fact that Tarantino is an ugly, detestable creep.

by Anonymousreply 22May 7, 2019 8:28 PM

Because he steals from better movies

by Anonymousreply 23May 7, 2019 8:28 PM

He even looks like a weird trainwreck of a man.

Kill Bill is my favorite movie of all time. There is an art to ultra violence. It's an acquired taste. He also imcorporates so many genres at once. Westerns, old school asian flicks, you can tell he truly loves cinema. His stuff is never bland, always inspired.

by Anonymousreply 25May 7, 2019 8:31 PM

I agree Django was a bit disappointing. I think it was his weakest film. Without SLJ it would have been a mess.

by Anonymousreply 26May 7, 2019 8:36 PM

As others have stated, these are the reasons: He steals all his plots from other movies, he hates and is afraid of women unless they’re cartoonish superhero types, his writing is lazy af (refer to his black title cards as a “style thing” rather than lazy structure), he is woefully, painfully uncool and thinks he’s edgy, he’s ugly, he keeps trying to act in his movies, and he’s self-indulgent (use of 70mm in H8, which was essentially a stage play). He’s an aggressively, painfully boring person who has to shoot up and have a foot fetish to become interesting. He has not one authentic bone in his body.

by Anonymousreply 28May 7, 2019 8:50 PM

He’s got a fetish for ultra violence. I can’t do gore makes my skin crawl so I haven’t seen most of his movies.

by Anonymousreply 29May 7, 2019 8:59 PM

He always puts black actors in his movies, but no gay characters or other minorities?! What a flaming hypocrite!

by Anonymousreply 30May 8, 2019 12:43 AM

R30 Lucy Liu is not black. And he gives prominent deep roles to female characters. That was somewhat unprecedented for the genre back then.

The bride was the precurser to characters like Furiosa in Mad Max

by Anonymousreply 31May 8, 2019 12:48 AM

R31 One whole Asian in his movies? Wow! In Inglorious Bastards both of the female leads died grizzly deaths. Tarantino is no friend to minorities.

by Anonymousreply 32May 8, 2019 1:59 AM

Mother Nature wasn't kind to him.

by Anonymousreply 33May 8, 2019 1:59 AM

I love him and most of his films.

by Anonymousreply 34May 8, 2019 2:04 AM

Anyone's allowed to have shit taste and low self-esteem, R34.

by Anonymousreply 35May 8, 2019 2:09 AM

Because he's a very homely fellow.

by Anonymousreply 36May 8, 2019 2:13 AM

Why should we necessarily like them, OP?

by Anonymousreply 37May 8, 2019 2:15 AM

R32 Absurd to say he isn't a friend to minorities.

You've just unilaterally decided black people don't count as minorities now? What rubbish

He's in love with the n word.

by Anonymousreply 40May 8, 2019 3:30 AM

Empty suit. Others came up with everything good about his movies.

by Anonymousreply 41May 8, 2019 3:36 AM

He can create dazzling surfaces, but it seems like there is always something missing inside.

by Anonymousreply 42May 8, 2019 3:36 AM

He's a genius. The best film maker of his generation. No one can create a soundtrack like Tarintino

by Anonymousreply 43May 8, 2019 3:39 AM

If I want a soundtrack, I get a DJ.

by Anonymousreply 44May 8, 2019 12:24 PM

The very pinnacle of his genre: ultra violent action. Films like John Wick can't begin to compete

by Anonymousreply 45May 8, 2019 2:09 PM

Because DL hates everything except grotesque females like Madonna and hot guys (mostly straight.)

by Anonymousreply 46May 8, 2019 2:20 PM

JACKIE BROWN is my favorite film of the 1990s (along with Goodfellas). Fun, great cast, great story, awesome writing...I wouldn't change a thing.

Quentin Tarantino was a big fan of Pauline Kael's. He would have made her proud.

by Anonymousreply 47May 8, 2019 2:24 PM

R38 What I'm saying is that he only has blacks in his movies as minorities while ignoring the others. He's a typical American - he has 'gotten' the black issue but hasn't got a clue about other minority issues.

by Anonymousreply 49May 8, 2019 2:40 PM

Tarantino was a (I hate to use this term) “wigger.” He grew up idolizing black culture. He doesn’t do it for some equality bent, he’s not trying to fill a quota. He puts black people in his movies literally because he likes black people.

by Anonymousreply 50May 8, 2019 3:00 PM

R50 I wish he would start idolizing gay people and other minorities and put them in his movies - we need the exposure.

by Anonymousreply 51May 8, 2019 3:02 PM

The key to achieving racial harmony in America is healing the divide between white and black. The rest of these minorities don’t care about representation—they worship the ground the white man walks on and are happy just to see him. Only black people have a separate and distinct identity which they want to preserve. Latinos and Asians will happily surrender what makes them unique in order to breed and blend in with white people. They want to be white.

by Anonymousreply 52May 8, 2019 3:08 PM

This is also part of the reason why blacks are the most hated among white people. They can’t stand the fact that blacks won’t bend the knee and assimilate into whiteness the way those good little Asians do.

by Anonymousreply 53May 8, 2019 3:10 PM

Wow theres a lot going on in those two posts above. But comparing black people and their behavior to other minorities in the US is apples to oranges. Black people have been in America as long as white people have. So it doesn't make sense that either culture would be pushed to "assimilate". Thats very different than Latinos or Asians who emigrated to a mostly formed country

by Anonymousreply 55May 8, 2019 3:22 PM
Black people have been in America as long as white people have. So it doesn't make sense that either culture would be pushed to "assimilate".

We’re talking about white people here. It doesn’t need to make sense.

by Anonymousreply 56May 8, 2019 3:34 PM

His movies always tell a great story. When they end you never think he's run out of film. Jackie Brown is brilliant and what a cast.

by Anonymousreply 57May 8, 2019 3:38 PM

The film style is gimmicky and pretentious. Thanks to him, hipster racism is now a thing. He made it hip for young white people to use the N-word. And just because he worships blaxploitation movies and Pam Grier doesn’t make him any less racist. I can’t stand him. The rape scene in Pulp Fiction was his way of demeaning black men...

by Anonymousreply 58May 8, 2019 3:39 PM

Has anyone ever counted the number of Asian actors in Kill Bill?

by Anonymousreply 59May 8, 2019 4:48 PM

Only maybe 6 have speaking roles but r59 is right there are dozens.

Gogo was a treasure. Also the sword smith and his son

by Anonymousreply 60May 8, 2019 4:51 PM
I wish he would start idolizing gay people

I don't. I don't think he would do a very good job with gay male characters, and I suspect it would be some clumsy, two-bit, lousy representation.

by Anonymousreply 61May 8, 2019 4:59 PM

I agree with R61 he's very good at the things he organically likes. He should stick to that

by Anonymousreply 62May 8, 2019 5:00 PM

He was first. Before everybody had the internet he turned his job at the video store into quite the career. I'm sure he watched everything that caught his eye and paid attention in a way that phone-faced ADHD generations never will. Even though their access is hundredfold.

I like his movies for the most part, but I like his story too.

by Anonymousreply 63May 8, 2019 5:13 PM
Because DL hates everything except grotesque females like Madonna

Guess you didn't see Four Rooms, huh.

by Anonymousreply 64May 8, 2019 6:03 PM

R58 I also remember finding the rape scene deeply racist, as well as homophobic. I've never liked his movies, or his personality for that matter.

by Anonymousreply 65May 8, 2019 6:52 PM

He also fetishes Asians in a really weird way.

by Anonymousreply 68May 9, 2019 5:00 AM

Because he's a pretentious hack?

by Anonymousreply 70May 9, 2019 1:33 PM

Fuck you, pussies. Go watch that dumb "Pom" movie. Even Kathy Griffin has a Pulp Fiction cameo. So does Alexis Arquette.

by Anonymousreply 71May 9, 2019 1:39 PM

I'm not "DL" but I like some of his movies, dislike others.

He's an asshole, but sometimes an asshole can make great movies. Sometimes his movies are great BECAUSE he's an asshole. Polanski, anyone?

Tarantino has made some amazing movies. Kill Bill was the beginning of the end for me -- it had his trademark virtuosity, but the low road revenge shit is too manipulative and lowbrow, strictly trash. He seems to revel in the fact that he's making trash cool, but fuck that. Shit stinks no matter who squeezes it out.

After KB it became Quentin's Revenge-orama. So dull. I sat through Deathproof and there were some exciting moments but come the fuck on.

I haven't even bothered to see his most recent revenge flavor of the week movies. I'm looking forward to the Manson movie not being a shit revenge-genre pic. I'll go see that.

by Anonymousreply 73May 9, 2019 2:09 PM

I liked some of some of his movies but I'm not a big fan of them overall. He is like the Woody Allen of exploitation movies. I like most of Woody Allen movies and he hardly ever has gay characters but he is true to the story.

by Anonymousreply 74May 9, 2019 2:23 PM

I love Kill Bill 1 (Vol 2 less so) and think it was pure, perfected art. The track Please Don't Let me be Misunderstood was used with such panache. God, I loved that film.

Inglorious Basterds was also pretty great. I love Diane Kruger though and if I were a drag queen my name WOULD be Bridget Von Hammersmark.

Kill Bill is the only true Samurai Western

by Anonymousreply 76May 9, 2019 3:19 PM

Mixed feelings: Some good things done, the movies tend to strike me as too long, meandering and self-indulgent. The violence has been done to death (haha), feels stale, lazy, ugly.

Oh by the way, he owns and supports the New Beverly, an amazing movie theater in Los Angeles. They're always showing interesting stuff there, getting rare prints to run, etc. It is unfortunate that more movie-makers don't put the bucks up, do things like that. Spielberg, Cameron, Lucas, etc., could do something along those lines, choose not to. But they are quick to talk about how much they love, love, love movies.

by Anonymousreply 77May 9, 2019 7:04 PM

Because he’s an asshole.

by Anonymousreply 78May 23, 2019 9:40 PM

Because he's derivative and dreary, op.

by Anonymousreply 79May 23, 2019 9:49 PM

Tarantino is a bit of a prick, but - fuck everyone who doesn't think the end of Pulp Fiction is amazing. Samuel L Jackson was robbed at the Oscars.

by Anonymousreply 80May 23, 2019 9:54 PM

R5 Stupidest comment ever. I doubt QT's audience would ever want to see a gay character. Never gonna happen, lady.

by Anonymousreply 81May 23, 2019 9:54 PM
Why does DL dislike Quentin Tarantino and his films?

Oh I don't know, when I'm off of DL and in the real world, I like him and his movies just fine.

But when I am on DL I hate his fucking stinking guts.

by Anonymousreply 82May 23, 2019 9:57 PM

Tarantino has featured blacks, Asians and Latinos ("From Dusk Till Dawn",) so the race card is silly.

I don't care for most of his stuff, his characters are too wooden, but he'll work with any group.

by Anonymousreply 83May 23, 2019 10:03 PM

R5 plus the leather guy who raped the black guy in Pulp Fiction was probably gay. He played a "bad guy," does that not count in your narrow vision of the world.

by Anonymousreply 84May 23, 2019 10:12 PM

The queens on this site are far to pretentious to enjoy something as fund and unassuming as Tarantino's works. If it's not something they can feel superior about enjoying, they won't like it

by Anonymousreply 85May 23, 2019 10:13 PM

R85 most of the queens on DL are psychotic and unhinged and stupider than a bag of hair.

by Anonymousreply 86May 23, 2019 10:20 PM

by Anonymousreply 95May 28, 2019 11:08 AM

He specializes in the celebration/recreation of 1970s grindhouse, which included some of the most problematic aspects of the era, such as gun violence, racial antagonism, misogyny, rape culture, and toxic masculinity tinged with a degree of homophobia. This latter is more a symptom of today's culture, an approximation of what's been popularly [italic]supposed[/italic] of 1970s culture.

by Anonymousreply 96May 28, 2019 11:21 AM

His movies are long and BOOOOORING.

by Anonymousreply 97May 28, 2019 11:25 AM

I hate the over the top violence in his movies for example the scalping in Inglourious Basterds #puke

by Anonymousreply 98May 28, 2019 11:50 AM

But, even though his films are derivative (or hommages depending on whom you talk to), at least he's coming out with original content. No franchise, sequels, or comic book laden drivel for us!

by Anonymousreply 99May 28, 2019 12:03 PM

It’s ONLY comic book drivel, r99

As a straight female I love his movies especially Jackie Brown with Pam grier. At least his movies aren't pretentious like most woke theme movies of today. I like the nostalgia of macho shot them up type of movies.

by Anonymousreply 101May 28, 2019 12:25 PM

R101 They aren’t pretentious? Lololol

by Anonymousreply 102May 28, 2019 12:31 PM

R102. Compared to today movies I think his movies are way less pretentious. I can't even enjoy most of the sjw theme garbage today.

by Anonymousreply 103May 28, 2019 12:35 PM

Interesting itw R94. I don't like QT and to me it's always been obvious he writes to music. The soundtracks are the only redeeming features of all his movies. Once I've got the playlist I can just listen to the artists and skip the movie, tbh.

by Anonymousreply 104May 28, 2019 12:42 PM

He's probably like most straight guys these days, he wouldn't want to be seen as homophobic, but still finds the idea of male homosexuality icky...even amusing in a perverted way.

by Anonymousreply 105May 28, 2019 12:56 PM

Except for the perverted sadists in Pulp Fiction and the version of Hitler in Inglories Bastards, there are no gays in his movies.

by Anonymousreply 106May 28, 2019 1:24 PM
I’ve heard Tarantino has a small mangled cock. He’s a hateful closet case.

There's no way he's a closet case based on the content of his films. He's just a straight guy with a small mangled cock.

It's not surprising that he's into guys having their dicks ripped apart (not a gay thing).

by Anonymousreply 107May 28, 2019 1:27 PM

What the hell happened to Tarantino’s mangled cock? The circumcision went wrong?

by Anonymousreply 108May 28, 2019 1:36 PM

1) Frau feet everywhere in his movies

2) He's a bit of an idiot savant even to those of us who like his movies

3) Tedious career trajectory, started great but then seemed bent on instructing us over and over again what an amazing genre revenge movies could be

4) UGLY

5) Petty jealousy

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 109May 28, 2019 2:27 PM

His foot fetish is interesting because he loves big and masculine feet not small and feminine. He's not interested in women and femininity even when he loves something in women like their feet those feet should be masculine so he could like them

by Anonymousreply 110May 28, 2019 7:18 PM

Big yes, but not masculine. From what I remember, Uma Thurman, Rosario Dawson, and now Margaret Qualley all have big feet, but they still look like girl feet, not manly feet.

by Anonymousreply 111May 28, 2019 7:31 PM

R1 summed it up. He's not untalented, but many of his movies are bad. Natural Born Killers is just embarrassing, so bad it's basically unwatchable.

by Anonymousreply 112May 28, 2019 8:08 PM

I know people who say Natural Born Killers is their favorite movie. Seriously.
