Debi Mazar, DL fave and salt-of-the-earth, is still reportedly in Madge's life. Good thing, too. Rosie still communicates with her but I don't think they spend a lot of time together. Madge has burned a lot of bridges over the years.

R27, no, she had some collaborations with a couple of musicians but that was it. She was really outside the life oftne city, she could’ve been in Lisbon as in other european capital, living a lonely rarefied life of a millionaire. I actually think that did not contribute to her mental health and those years signal her decline.
Naturally, this was mainly her fault. There were numerous stories of diva behavior. In one case she had one business associate change all their office furniture because she didn’t like the chairs.

I'm not sure that Madge is actually "friends" with anyone. Maybe she's truly a friend to Mazar, I don't know, but I wouldn't bet on it.
She's "friends" with her dealers. She's "friends" with her plastic surgeons (although she should have them killed). She's "friends" with those hostages she adopted from Africa. She's "friends" with her paid dancers, partiers, yes-people and all that trash.
At least nowadays her hangers-on get some good drugs. Back in the day they didn't even get that from Madge.

As I've said before on these threads, Rosie is an undependable bag of crazy, but I think she is fundamentally a kind person and extremely loyal. She has even reached out to Ellen DeGeneres during her recent debacles, and they were long-time rivals more than friends and colleagues.
She and Madge bonded 30 years ago during A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN: two motherless girls from large Catholic families who never quite got enough attention. I think their ties are authentic.

I don't doubt that Rosie, who is insane, has genuine friendship for Madge. How much of a friend she ever really was is debatable. Madge doesn't have friends and she never did have friends. She has targets and people she can use one way or another. The only real person in Madge's world is Madge. Everyone else is a prop.

And for the record, I don't think Sandra Bernhard is exactly a day in the park to deal with personally, either. Narcissistic, superior, vain, not especially kind or generous, from some reports. I say that as a former fan of her stand-up work.
I admire Bernhard more for her tenacity than for her actual talent. She's lasted (in her odd, peripheral, C-list way) in show biz since the 70s.

Madonna bonded with people and made friends before she became a star, and when she was becoming one. Really young, Madonna lived in squats all over three boroughs. Crash where she could. She palled with many artists and downtown types like herself. However, most of these people remained modest in the mid and late 80s while Madonna was rapidly rising way out of their orbit. I was close to one of her ex squat mates, a gay guy who died in the 1980s. Madonna was known to be a nonstop operator but also had a sweet side with people who she was NOT looking to use, just to know. She is mostly self taught and like many success stories she was a sponge taking in everything she could from other creative people and business people too.

She was charming and captivating and she used this in her rise to success. She didn't rise because she was a stone cold careerist and cunt and bitch. I think a lot of that peaked by 1986 and then the many persona of public madonna took over and at least in public apperarances, her natural charm was stamped out by 1990. Anyone can see she was capable of charming and warmth in Desperately Seeking Susan. Not many years later, it was gone, but ehe was a huge star. Who knows how long her charm and warmth lasted in private. I bet a tiny bit lasted for a few decades but she stopped using it in her public madonna personas.
