Tea Partiers. Starting in 2007 the TPers wouldn't shut the fuck up about Obama being a secret gay Muslim and Michelle being a man.

The earliest mention I can find online is from 2008 when Larry Sinclair said Obama was part of a gay murder orgy, but I am sure he wasn't the first.

In 2012 World Net Daily really pushed the rumor again during the run-up to the election.

Larry Sinclair said he sucked Obama in the backseat of a car while both were on drugs.

The mother of a choir boy in Chicago said Obama had her son killed because Obama didn't want her son to talk. Kind of like how he did a JFK Jr. and visited his grandmother in the hospital just to kill her.

The Kal Penn rumor is actually not a big stretch. Kal is now 43 and has never had a girlfriend/wife? He’s gay. Doesn’t even try to beard.

It is interesting how this actor got scooped up by Obama and put into the White House. Hm. And they were very close.

It might not be true, but it is also a high possibility. Obviously there isn’t any solid evidence.

By Presidential standards (quite low), yes, Obama is an attractive and fairly well-dressed man.

That said, I never got a remotely gay vibe from his speech, body language, manner. He is still Barry, the well-meaning but awkward nerdy straight dude that some acquaintances remember from his undergrad days at Columbia University. (A female friend thought he was cute but mostly goofy at the time. Nothing happened between them.)

So gay, no. A bit of a geek, yes. He's learned charisma over the years (thanks in part to Michelle).

R19 Kal is gay but where do you get the idea he was close to the President? He was an actor (and a minority of a group I'm sure Obama's campaign wanted to create specific outreach for) and then got a job in the press office.

I used to lurk on a "conspiracy" forum and saw the fiction unravel organically. One of the long-time posters who was very respected by the tea party types on the forum made a joke that Michelle looked like a character from Planet of the Apes. Those jokes turned to people posting pictures of how it could be possible she was a man, still jokes.

Then, out of nowhere, someone posted the story about Larry Sinclair. Most people on the forum were convinced the poster was Sinclair himself and dismissed it as the rantings of a drug addict. After the Sinclair story broke there, it got picked up by other "alternative" news sites as "fact" and the mythology really began. It was because of that story the forum started banning links from worldnetdaily, but the damage was done and all the hardcore conspiracy nuts had a new villain to add to their story.

This all happened shortly after his DNC speech when the media went nuts over him.

So yeah, the rumors started on AboveTopSecret. And they weren't rumors, they were badly written fan fiction with the Obamas as villains and GWB as some hero saving the world from brown people.

It's simple.

Racists hated the idea of an educated and successful black man who ran and won the Office. So they created gay rumors as a way to mock him. So a mixture of racism and homophobia.

Pre-election Obama worked out at my gym. Played hoops almost daily. (As did Rahm, even while mayor.) Obama was a state senator then and somewhat well known locally. Definitely no gay vibe and definitely never talk about him being at the bars in or around Boystown. It's all BS started by the right wing conservatives.
