She sure did enjoy slaving away for him at the coffee pot...
Later, of course, she figured out how to make things easier with instant High Point.

Flavah! Even with Maxwell House.

The proof is in the coffee: the marriage was so chaotic Bacall had to switch to the decaffeinated High Point.

What the hell happened to High Point Decaffeinated Instant Coffee?
Must not have been "deep brewed" enough to get enough people to buy the bilge-maker.

All that coffee poor Miss Bacall made day in and out was for the hangovers Robards was nursing...
From the link:
When I inquired about her marriage to the actor Jason Robards Jr., Bacall said, “It didn’t work. We were a mismatch. That’s all. Simple.”
It was a turbulent, unhappy marriage lasting from 1961 to 1969, during which, she has said, she endured the actor’s heavy drinking and infidelity. Although she and Robards had a son together, Sam, now 35, they rarely speak.

A coworker of mine was in a play with Robarts and said Bacall was the most foul mouthed woman he ever met.
I can only assume she was drunk, too.

She was fucking Sinatra while married to Robards. She was pissed Franky refused to marry her.

I will say Bacall was utterly incredible looking when very young, and a fantastic model. She got hard looking soooo fast, though.

This was during her first month in Hollywood. After that she seemed to age a decade every two years.

Apart from that Maxwell House commercial, did Bacall and Robards ever work together?

What do you THINK it was like, OP???????

It's weird to me she referred to her first husband for the rest of her life as "Bogie."
How did his parents address him when he was a child?
| by Anonymous | reply 12 | November 21, 2021 7:27 PM |
Robards called her The Widow Bogart.

I'm amazed not that Jason Robards had the temperament of a huge pussyhound but that he was so successful at it. It just goes to show you that you don't have to especially handsome to get laid--you just have to be persistent.

It was all hearts, not diamonds.

Betty and Jason were fucking around and she got pregnant -- hence the marriage. It was never a love match, just an accident in timing. She and Robards tried unsuccessfully to marry in Vienna on June 16, 1961. The finally did manage to tie the knot in Mexico on July 4. Sam Robards was born on Dec. 19, 1961, just six months after his parents' first wedding attempt.
It's surprising they didn't divorce before 1969.
