What famous diets have you tried?

My favorite is Master Cleanse, though I’ve done South Beach, which I hated (no. Energy & heart palpitations), & Smart for Life, the healthy cookie/meal replacement one, which is sustainable.

I do MC 1-2 times a year, just finished a 7-day stint. It’s amazing for weight loss & good as an overall cleanse (mostly liver).

Keto has changed my life. I go off it for a week every three months and I never gain. It has helped me lower my blood sugar

I tried this one diet where you eat anything you want until 5 p.m. and then you drink whatever you want until you go to sleep. I got super thin but it gave me diabetes that got me to the Keto diet so...

Just. Eat. Sensibly.

I did the Suzanne Somers' Eat Great, Lose Weight program (not joking). It does work, but I only had a bit to lose. I was hungry a lot of the time and so eventually had to give it away.

Weight Watchers (WW) worked for me like nothing else. Lost 40 pounds and am keeping it off. I've struggled with my weight since I was a kid, tried every diet out there but they never worked for long because they weren't sustainable. This is. There are no forbidden foods as long as I stay within my points. And with the app, it's really easy to plan meals that keep me within my points every day.

It's been life-changing.

The Patsy Stone Diet.

You switch to a mostly liquid diet, supplementing with pills and cigarettes

for physical activity, you alternate between having sex with gorgeous young men and chasing around pudgy fraus with a knitting needle.

and then stick your fingers down your throat, hack off your tits, keep taking the tablets and don't come back until you're looking like something

My own diet - grilled fish, salad, tea and apples. Past a certain point, weight stays the same.

by Anonymousreply 6November 3, 2022 10:45 AM

I eat two meals a day. I might snack on a small apple or two if peckish. I don't eat before 9am (usually 10am, tbh) and after 6pm (usually 5pm). I don't consume more than 1300 calories a day. I walk briskly for two hours a day and I always drink at least four pints of water a day.

R2, how do you get enough fat in your diet for Keto? That’s always been my problem.

Weight Watchers does work but I can’t seem to get my head back in the game to be successful again.

I tried GOLO and did lose some weight. But I’ve been on so many diets in the last 30 years that I can’t wrap my head around the portions (6 ozs of protein at every meal).

Atkins worked for me as well.

Recently re-tried Nutrisystem but the food was mostly microwaveable and very bland.

by Anonymousreply 10November 4, 2022 12:44 AM

R10 I did keto without tracking the fat and lost weight quickly. And I continued to lose weight for a couple weeks even after stopping the diet. Also, my mom tried Nutrisystem about 15 years ago- the food itself was ok, but the selection wasn’t great and portions were tiny.

In the 80s I lost a ton of weight on the Watermelon Diet!

r12 I recall some black diva got hit by the outrage mob doing that one... then she switched to juicing celery. I can't recall who it was, tho.

And I knew a no name actress that would go on sugar crashes.. they were quite popular in the day, the anti-meth alternative. wreaks havoc on the system but they take off loads of weight but it has to be like pure sugar or syrup. Gummies were popular with the ana/mia crowds but you could imagine the kind of conspitation problems they had from binging on gummies.

by Anonymousreply 13November 4, 2022 5:47 AM

R10, can you share some meals? Interested to see what they looked like since Keto emphasizes fat and very little protein and carbs.

The Engine 2 Diet -- written by a hunky fireman and it's all vegan. Totally worked.

Keto will kill you eventually.

As ridiculous as it sounds, Richard Simmons’ Never Say Diet transformed my life. At 16 in 1981 I weighed 185 pounds at not at all a tall height. On my 16th birthday I swore I would never be fat again. It became my Bible and I carried it everywhere. I took up exercising extensively and changed how and what I ate. I also became a vegetarian and used Diet for a Small Planet as a source and resource book as well. Within six months I had lost 65 pounds and went from being a fatty, to rail thin. It remains one of the best success stories of my life.

Hollywood Cabbage Crap-a-lot diet

by Anonymousreply 19November 4, 2022 9:15 PM

Mediterranean diet works for me and keeps blood sugar and cholesterol in check. Tons of veggies, salad, beans, fish. Nuts. Hummus and tahini. When I incorporate carbs, it's generally brown rice or quinoa or Ezekiel english muffins. Occasionally some whole wheat pasta. I rarely cheat. I ate a kit kat for the first time in ages the other day, left over from the stash my bf bought to give out for Halloween, and it was disgusting. It gave me the runs.

The cabbage soup diet. Yuck.

[R4] I did WW back in 2006 - lost 46 pounds from Memorial Day - Columbus Day. I never felt better in my life !

Of course, I gained it back from 2006 -20, and then some (during the pandemic).

I rejoined WW over the past few years a couple of times, but just can't get into it again with all the changes ! I do not like the phone app, as I prefer writing everything down in the weekly journal like I did in 2006. I know once Oprah took over it a few years ago, she tried to make it more 'user friendly' - but I just can't follow it. I need more restrictions. I'm glad you did it and had luck with it, though !

I’ve been a Jenny Craig platinum member since I was in high school. When I gain 10-15 extra lbs I always restart the program to get it off.

When I was younger I used to always go on Atkins and could lose like 60 lbs in a year. Problem was when I went off, I just ate a lot of gained it all back.

by Anonymousreply 25November 5, 2022 1:40 AM

I'll do anything to lose weight, except diet and exercise.

A very long time ago in the Dark Ages I was appalled when I went up from 104 to 118. I am a woman. At my height that made a difference. I went on the Scarsdale Diet and lost 14 lbs in 14 days. Totally worked and stayed off me for about 15 years.

THEN I hit my menopausal 40s and gained 20 lbs every year for 4 years - that is EIGHTY POUNDS. I felt desperate. I went to Weight Watchers and in maybe 18 -20 months lost it all at average of 1 lb a week. The slow loss meant no stretch marks and no flab - exercising & some weight training started halfway through the loss gave me the best body of my life.

The trick is sticking to it. Refusing to let anyone or anything get in your way of making the diet a habit in your life.

I've never had any weight issues. I'm a big guy (6'2", 195), but never ever fat.

About two years ago I had to take this terrible medication for about six months for this odd medical condition. Doc told me I'd put on a few pound, but I ballooned. About 40 pounds. It was so jarring. I'd just never experienced being over weight and suddenly I was a fattie.

Once my condition cleared and I was off the meds, I quit gaining weight (thank god) but now had all this excess weight. I tried everything, but was so shitty at dieting.

So, finally, I committed to no (or almost no) carb. I was eating shitty. Tons of cheese. Tons of meats. But no carbs.

It worked. Though, I wouldn't recommend eating like that for too long. All the weight was gone in about three or four months. Haven't gained a pound since.

Oh, I do exercise a lot. So that might be why it worked so quickly.
