They’re are two gay guys that upload MS content to YouTube sporaticly — especially on Holidays or a big season like Summer. They are really informative and she’s helped show me how to garden, paint and clean. I don’t care for her cooking except the baking.
I admire her drive. Going to bed at 1 to get up at 530 to feed chickens and drive into New York or wherever. I realize that now she is 76 and has a huge staff in Bedford and Skylands,Maine but She still does stuff.
I like the early K-Mart videos on “How to Give a Formal Party” “.....antipasto party” or my personal favorite “MS Thanksgiving.” You get a great look at Turkey Hill and it’s more real that the others. I also like it’s just Martha and friends putting this shit together.
Next came the tv show which hit its stride around 1996. It was still intimate but a little gloss and professional. Someone mentioned above that after the company went public around 2000 she really went balls deep for an Empire. It didn’t feel like the MS we had come to love and hate.
After her unfortunate incarnation (she did lie to the FBI. That was the jail time. Not insider trading) the live show turned me off. She just showed up and read off the prompter. I don’t want to watch Bette Middler “learn” how to darn her own socks.
It lost the one thing that when it comes to Martha that most valuable, her depth of knowledge on almost anything to do with running a house or yard.
R28. She is a true optimist. How many of us could just sit in jail for 10 months and watch damn-near 1 billion dollars circle the drain? She’s always said that out of everything the only things she really cherished were the Magazine and Company. The company was sold off for about 250 million a few years ago. That must’ve been tough. Sorry Alexis.
Born in ‘88 I miss the 90’s like crazy (especially now) but times have changed. I went to a gay wedding this Spring and the bottom had put himself in charge of the decorations. He used Pinterest and *everything* was made out of recycled pallets and everything was in a mason jar. It was awful. They walked barefoot and had the Ceremony under a tree which I guess is cool. I just think people are moving away from most things formal.
R70. Martha by Mail always got a side-eye from me. Granted, I was 7 but looking back so I really need her 2,500 piece Cake Decorating set? The QVC stuff looks legit though. I saw the pressure washer and garden tiller and they are not flimsy products.
Of course she sold out. She is still work North of 600 million and has two grandchildren. That cost her a fortune. Ada girl, Alexis. Wait till 45....and then live with the sperm donor. “This is the new American Family. I keep telling myself this whenever I visit Alexis. At least he has a job.” She really said this! Haha
The bs you see her out and about pushing is just to cover over-head. She notoriously cheap.
Give me some good gossip on her. And not the nude pool parties in the 70’s. Everyone knows about that.
Rumor has it from one of the trashy books written about her that she met a guy in a bar on her honeymoon with her husband and disappeared with him. When she showed up late back to the hotel she told Andrew that they had been to midnight Mass. bahahahaha
