I'm looking for heist, spy or mystery movies that are fun to watch. Help me!

Murder by Death. One of the most fun movies youβll ever see.

r1, that sounds great! I'd never heard of that movie and I am downloading it now.

Murder On The Orient Express. The older version is better, but the newer one has a messed up Johnny Depp (using an earpiece to say his lines). Bonus points in the older 70's film for a HOT Michael York.

Murder on the Orient Express, the 1974 version, if youβve never seen it.

R5 Great minds think alike!

Most of these movies are crap. Watch the great "Beat the Devil" (1953) for the real deal.

More in the comedic vein but Clue! I love it. Very funny but a good mystery.
Manhattan Murder Mystery is fun if you can overlook the fact that it's directed by Woody Allen.
And of course, the DL classic:

Based upon real-life competitive games organized by a bitchy circle of friends led by Stephen Sondheim and Anthony Perkins, the 1973 film ππ‘π πππ¬π π¨π ππ‘ππ’π₯π is clever and highly entertaining.

Ok I started watching Murder by Death. I love Peter Sellers Chinese character. It's racist but so funny! I'm going to watch all the suggestions in this thread in order.

Donβt forget The Last Of Sheila. So much better than Knives Out. And very campy! Of course the best on this list is Deathtrap.

Foul Play. It's more a romantic comedy but it's also a fun mystey. I miss good movies. Also, another vote for Manhattan Murder Mystery.

OP/R15, did you recognize the characters being spoofed? It sounds like you might not have been familiar with Charlie Chan.

r21, no I did not! I am Gen X and although I enjoy movies from the 70s, I am not familiar with all the references. I never watched Charlie Chan.

This is not a murder mystery movie, but a slick, stylish heist movie with a tone similar to Knives Out was The Italian Job.

I enjoyed The Italian Job, r23. That's exactly the kind of movie I'm looking for-- complicated plots without a lot of violence or weepiness. I liked the new version better than the old. Michael Caine is kind of annoying to me.

Fantastic suggestions. I'm not OP but I'm also downloading all the suggestions.
LOVE Clue R10!

Being an Elder, I suggest, "Arsenic and Old Lace". It really showcases Cary Grant's comedic timing.

Most people hate it, but I like Adam Sandler's Murder Mystery comedy.

It may not fit perfectly, but I thought the YA horror mystery Red Riding Hood was pretty great with a nice mystery.

Kill Me Again (1989), with Val Kilmer when he was hot.

Some classic suggestions:
Laura (1944)
Green For Danger (1946)
The Venetian Bird (1952)
Chase a Crooked Shadow (1958)

I just finally saw Knives Out.
It's good, but there's always a danger that anything universally acclaimed won't live up to the hype and it didn't.
I had read and heard that it's hilariously funny and it wasn't to me. It was funny in a silly way from time to time. I guess if people find barfing hilarious, that would have made a difference. That's not really up my alley.
I was really bored during the long opening scenes of the cops and detective interviewing the family members. It went on for so long I thought that might be the entire movie format and I came close to turning it off.
Otherwise, it was enjoyable, but my last criticism is the end. I know it's a convention of the genre for the detective to talk through all the clues that lead to his conclusion, but this conclusion seemed to take a really long time to me. He just kept talking and talking and talking and then...more barf.
Will the sequel use diarrhea as a punchline? Menstrual blood?

For theater, it's " The Play That Goes Wrong."
