Wow.....just wow.

It is kinda true. People of color can be racist too but they were rarely called out.

Datalounge needs a site devoted to racebait threads. Like DataloungeBlack.com or something and they can all go over there and have fun. Like a Lip Stick Alley Datalounge.

NPR covered this in 2014:

There's another billboard in Harrison advertising "WhitePrideRadio.com." They're basically saying, "Damn right, we're racist!"

This is wonderful! The country's white supremacists should all move here.
Then we can build Trump's infamous wall around the town limits, with requisite passport control stations.

R12 as opposed to the new breed of militant SJW gays, like you who are actually miserable, because they wallow in outrage and perceived slights like pigs in slop 24/7, as they virtue signal constantly on social media. No thanks.

R13 Sometimes I think enclosing the entire south would be a good start.
I was in Alabama for a vacation a few years ago in Gulf Shores and we went to some flea market/vintage stores nearby......was far more scared around some of those inbred crackers than I've ever been in all the years I've lived in big cities.
| by Anonymous | reply 17 | February 6, 2021 3:17 PM |
r17 did any of the alleged inbred crackers even give you a second glance? The time of day? Any type of attention? Did they even say boo to you?

Had to stop for gas once in Jasper, TX and I was out comfortable as hell around all those white trash racists. It's KKK central for Texas there.
There was a planned community called The Citadel reported on some years back. It was for anti-government racists. I don't think they ever got it off the ground though. I think they were planning on building in Idaho or somewhere in that area.
| by Anonymous | reply 20 | February 6, 2021 3:29 PM |
R19 Yes, several approached me and just started talking about weird shit. A lot of "You ain't from around here."
One woman just came up and out of the blue, no hello, no how do you do...."My uncle and my daddy raped me. Raped me and gave me babies." OMFG! I don't know if she was developmentally challenged or just.....had no boundaries, but there was lots of that. Another proudly rattled off the names of all her male relatives who were currently incarcerated.
As we left one site a few old fat white guys started chanting something we couldn't understand at first, but as we neared the exit we figured they were saying "Bama is a Muslim! Bama is a Muslim!" Mind you, all of us were white guys and more than half of our group was straight, but I guess since we bathed and looked "elitist" they felt a need to say that.
I've been around people like that before - I grew up in PA and there were areas within an hour or so where you have similar people, very closed society kind of people, who react very oddly to seeing anyone not like them. But it was unsettling. It had been a while.

R29 Sorry about your poor reading capabilities. I make a JOKE about enclosing those areas to suggest corraling all the racist Trumpers. If you somehow want to twist it into a racist accusation, then that's all about you and YOUR delusions.
Of course those are all the poorest states, and poverty doesn't give people many options, which is why impoverished people of both races are there. And poor white people hate that fact, so much. Toni Morrison said it best - some people can only stand tall when they make others small.

R4, Know someone who lives in a teeny, tiny town near to that sign. She used to live in Hollywood, and on military bases around the world so she's very open-minded but struggles with the attitudes of her neighbors. Says KKK is still active and respected. Extremely few non-Whites, non-Caucasians, non-Protestants in the area. Snake-handling churches are the norm, phoniness abounds.
NO they don't accept gays. Every stereotype of white trailer trash discussed in DL threads is accurate and much, much more. They distrust government, generally don't vote, and everyone has lots of guns. Hunting & fishing is a means to survive. Smoking is the norm, drug use and dealing is prevalent. Everyone relies on the local Walmart or the liquor store (busiest place in town especially post Covid.)

My ex and I flew from KC to Harrison about 8 years ago. It was like out own private plane on a 9 passenger turbo prop. Then we drove to Branson and Eureka Springs for the weekend. It was fun and i was still drinking then so we sat on balcony of some hotel bar in Eureka on a beautiful October afternoon. On the return my ex was smoking a joint out in front t of the Harrison airport terminal before flying home . I normally worry about the legality but it seemed rather innocuous at the time.

R44, I added non-Whites to non-Caucasians as many Jews, light-skinned Hispanics/Latinos, Middle-Easterners, Italian Catholics, etc would check "White" on surveys. However since they're not all from Western Europe AR locals wouldn't necessarily view them as "one of us." I was trying to be very diplomatic but honest.
Yes if you're "not from around these parts" and didn't grow up going to the local schools and small churches you are viewed "as an outsider" and not to be fully trusted. There are extremely few options for economic advancement besides leaving by joining the military. Yet government including the armed forces are "not to be trusted" at all.
I asked my GF' live-in BF what he thought of Mayor Pete when he 1st came on the scene. I said his partner was a schoolteacher, former military in intelligence, from a small town in the Mid West, a casual but relatively conservative dresser, seemingly well-mannered. Points that matter to small-town America.
Everything sounded good initially and the BF in his 50's had even heard him discussed in a positive manner (as compared to the other liberal, very outspoken candidates at the time.) That is, until the issue that he was gay came up. Immediately I heard that from the earliest ages he was taught that "homosexuality was a perversion."
Then he said that it would have been OK if Mayor Pete had remained on the down low as he was aware that there were many gays and lesbians living in AR. However they knew to keep quiet about their sexual activity, adding that his cousins didn't announce their extra-marital affairs in public either.
I asked him if he and his buds at the bar would vote for Mayor Pete. He said he personally never voted (although he hated Hillary & Obama) but it would depend on the alternatives. Meaning if the choice was Mayor Pete, or Hillary and/or Obama, he'd vote for Mayor Pete to stop the other choices.
Still he said he hoped someone would tell Mayor Pete to "cool it" with the sex outside of man-woman marriage just like a POTUS or a boss shouldn't flaunt his extra-marital affairs even though everyone knows the truth. Same with his obviously gay co-workers. Just thought DL would like to know the thought processes of small-town AR mentality.

R45, In small-town USA there are many dirt-roads and out-of-the-way places that you'll be greeted with a shotgun if they don't recognize your vehicle. Too many drug addicts/alcoholics looking for almost anything of value and most of the locals can't afford homeowners' insurance. They can afford bullets however.

They're probably allowed to leave town alive. Probably.

I've visited Harrison. I was staying at a resort nearby. It was owned by an ex-military couple who were from Florida, but who'd bought the resort after getting out of the service. They were RWNJs, naturally. They proudly showed me their stockpile of food they were amassing, expecting Obama to declare martial law and having a second civil war break out.
Even so, they warned me very kindly not to risk looking to hook up with any men in the area. They hated and looked down on the locals. Told me there were no good people living there. Coming from a couple of Floridians, that was quite the burn.
Harrison is just as bleak and inbred as you'd expect. Nothing and no one of note is there, except for the open racism shown by the KKK there. Incidentally, that area had the worst drivers I've encountered anywhere. I assume a whole lot of them are drugged/drunk driving, but I wouldn't be surprised if my northern state license plates made me a target for some good ol' boy games of chicken. I had more than one incident of missing a head-on collision by literally inches.
I'd booked a week at the resort. I spent five of the days driving as far away from the area as I could get, and ended up leaving a day early. There were parts of northern Missouri that raised the hair on the back of my neck, but those places seemed downright inviting compared to the Arkansas side of the Ozarks.
