He died of an overdose less than 2 years after the release of the Master, a film which was clearly critical of scientology in which Hoffman played the leader of the cult. Did the cult of Scientology send out agents to murder him and make it look like an overdose?

I don't think Hoffman was killed by the scienos. But, Hollywood publicist Ronni Chasen was offed by the Scienos.

He definitely had relapsed, but it certainly would have been easy for a covert Scieno to encourage him to just have a beer (after all these years, it couldn't possibly hurt), then stand back and wait for the inevitable. I could totally see them doing that.

There were stories that someone was passing around bad drugs at the time, and that several people died. Who knows if those stories were planted, though.
