Was DL villain Phil Ober really closeted?

This has come up in a few Vivian Vance threads.

Was Vivian's third husband really closeted?

Her fourth husband, DL forerunner John Dodds, was clearly gay, and had relationships with men before, during, and after his marriage to Vivian. But I've never heard anything in the ILL literature (including her authorized biography) that states Ober was anything other than straight. He was married three times, had one child, and had another pregnancy with Vivian, who miscarried. And he probably had a huge dick. Someone at Desilu said he was a womanizer, and he was apparently sleeping with one of Vivian's closest friends around the time they separated.

Was he actually closeted? This seems unlikely, but I suppose it's possible.
