"Under Pressure" - Queen ft David Bowie. Greatest Collaboration in the history ?

Is there any collaboration of two iconic entertainers more beautiful, catchy and iconic than this one ? I don't think so. This song should be counted as one of the greatest of all time. That bass hook. My God !!

It's odd that Under Pressure only made it to number 29 on the Hot 100.

Michael Jackson and Mick Jagger - STATE OF SHOCK.

Fun fact: the track was supposed to be an MJ/Freddy Mercury duet, but Michael got turned off seeing Freddy doing blow in the recording studio, so they ditched Freddy and hired Mick.

Fun fact: R5 is a lying cunt crumb who makes shit up out of her pot-clouded mind.

Freddie Mercury did try to collaborate with Michael Jackson, but he visited his recording studio, where a spitting, shitting llama freaked him out.

MJ = worst freak in the music industry.

^No darling, MJ was freaked out seeing druggie Freddy doing blow in the studio. But you hold on to them there rose-colored glasses.

Bowie clearly owns awesome collaborations, because 'Dancing In The Street' (for Live Aid) with Jagger was also sensational.

'The Little Drummer Boy' with Bing Crosby not so much, but given the season, all is forgiven.

by Anonymousreply 17December 4, 2018 6:08 PM

I love Little Drummer Boy because it was so incongruous.

R17 Did Bowie and Jagger have an affair? They seem to be acting very campy in the video.

Bowie and Trent Reznor, I’m Afraid of Americans is also great. I will also admit I have a big weak spot for Dolly and Kenny doing Islands in the Stream and We’ve Got Tonight.

R16 has no source for his gossip-mongering. Jagger snorted more cocaine in a month than Mercury did in a year.

by Anonymousreply 24December 4, 2018 11:38 PM

Freddie wiped the floor with Bowie, get real. Bowie was a marginally talented hack.

by Anonymousreply 25December 4, 2018 11:52 PM

R26 Be silent Whore of Babylon. They were both incredible and nobody else can do this song with making into Bowling Alley Karaoke.

by Anonymousreply 26December 4, 2018 11:56 PM

Bowie couldn't sing his way out of a wet paper sack. His only "talent" was narcissism.

by Anonymousreply 27December 5, 2018 12:00 AM

This song is so pretty, you could put it on repeat and not know it for 50 minutes.

You wish. Bowie held his own, he had a good voice.

Freddie Mercury’s stage persona was kinda silly. Bowie brought the versatile and intellectual theatrics Mercury could only dream of.

by Anonymousreply 30December 5, 2018 12:05 AM

Worship me! I'm a white, heterosexual, male, who thinks the world of myself, who cares if my voice was crap. I am everything to everyone!!!!

R32 I’m in. And he had a super hot wife.

Bowie did have more than a few good songs, but his voice still sucked. And yes, I know he was not only WHITE, but also MALE and HETEROSEXUAL.

JFC, the bulk of this thread is like an homage to the most calculated and offensively bland collaborations of the eighties.

To All the Girls I’ve Loved Before triggered me, but I was already on edge after Islands in the Syream and that sacrilegious remake of Dancin’ in the Streets.

by Anonymousreply 38December 5, 2018 12:22 AM

r12 just listen to Mercury's falsetto note from 1:55 to 2:10 in that video. Jaw dropping. No one is close to him let alone being better than him.

Testament to Bowie’s genius; he wanted the song to be called Under Pressure, Queen wanted it to be called People In The Streets. Bowie made the bass player keep that famous line when the bass player wanted to change it to something else by physically stopping him. Bowie suggests they go into separate booths and express the song as they individually felt, then it was engineered together. It wouldn’t have been the end product without the input of both Bowie and Mercury.

R48 super weird and super interesting clip. He really loosened her up on stage eventually. Thanks for sharing.

r31, silly was the point. Intellectual theatrics was the last thing on Freddie's mind.

Both coke and llama stories are kind of true.

by Anonymousreply 53December 5, 2018 2:48 PM

So, you reallyl feed coke to a llama. You you can’t make it sing?

by Anonymousreply 54December 6, 2018 5:18 AM

It’s a shame that Bowie and Freddie never performed this song together. Two of rock’s greatest showmen, and there isn’t even a video, which there would certainly have been had the song come out even a year later. Bowie never sang it onstage until Freddie’s memorial concert.

by Anonymousreply 55December 6, 2018 6:26 AM

R56 I don't think David Bowie liked Under pressure that much, he only started singing it because the audiences were bored with his 'no greatest hits' policy at his gigs. This was a way of giving the crowds something they could get into without reverting to singing Fame or Rebel rebel for the millionth time. Plus it spotlighted Gail Ann Dorsey.
