Esports star Karel Asenbrener -- famously known as "Twisten" -- died at 19 years old on Tuesday ... shortly after he posted a chilling tweet that read nothing more than "Good night."
Twisten's gaming org, Team Vitality, made the heartbreaking announcement on Wednesday ... saying its "deeply saddened" by the "devastating loss" of its star.
"Our first thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends in this difficult time," the French esports team wrote in a statement. "Rest in peace Karel."

Esports is a really really really toxic place, especially in North America - where the institutions are run by young autistic guys (gamers and tech geeks) and not real professionals like EU/Asia. There's a lot of wild drama, and it's pretty predictable if you can imagine what kind of fun billions of dollars being thrown around at "esports organizations" that are run by crypto bro scam artists, meanspirited autistic gamers, and delusional silicon valley rejects might produce. Even just playing ranked matches in games casually (with no aspirations or in at any level where anyone is going to be pro), most other people are approaching the game as life or death (because it affects their "ranking") and are so abusive that I find it hilarious but it could really wear down on you. If somebody perceives you made an error in a team game like Rainbow 6 or League of Legends I mean you just wouldn't believe the completely deranged emotional meltdowns that occur and it might be enough to have someone obsessed with harassing you for months.

eSports has all the classic crash-and-burn elements: massive amounts of money available to young stars, fame, pressure to never fail, etc.

You lived. You took up space. You were present.
I guess. I never heard of you.

[quote]R19 Permanent solution to a temporary problem
For many, clinical depression is not a temporary state.
Are you promising all those people they have happy lives in their future?
