Trump dictatorship is increasingly inevitable. We should stop pretending.

Hold me, David. I'M SCARED.

This is nonsense fearmongering.

It's weird to me how so many people are cheer-leading this notion, like they actually WANT it to happen.

Even on the Left.

I think it's partly in reaction to the hubris preceding the 2016 election, r1.

And this time around, it feels much more is at stake.

by Anonymousreply 2November 30, 2023 2:35 PM

All that has to happen to prevent this is for all the people who don't want this to show up and vote for Joe Biden and every Democrat they can. It really is that simple.

by Anonymousreply 3November 30, 2023 2:36 PM

r1, Whistling past the graveyard. The Left is planning for another fair and legal election and the Wrong is planning a coup. They for practiced it 4 years ago and they won't make the same mistakes. This time ONE state can refuse to certify their election and the Supreme Court will back it.

Well pardon me, r4, for not knowing to search "Opinion Piece from the WaPo" instead of, you know, the actual title of the column.

R6 Take it up with the OP of that thread, who wasn't me.

But nevertheless, we're discussing it there, fyi

Biden’s chances of being reelected are looking more and more like a fantasy. Trump can only run for one more term. 4 years can cause a lot of damage however.

by Anonymousreply 9November 30, 2023 3:31 PM

I thought Trump won a second term in 2020? That alone should make him ineligible. /s

It's cute that you think that if he gets in, there will ever be free an fair elections or that The Constitution will ever matter again.

R11 I am baffled that people don't actually pay attention to what's happening. He's released, publicly, plans to weaponize the justice dept against anyone who opposes him, to install Trump-loyalists in the military, to try General Milley for treason and execute him... just this week his lawyers formally stated, in court, that he never did "pledge to support the Constitution" in the first term. Explicitly they are saying how they will ignore the constitution if he gets the presidency a second time.

This is not oppo-panic, nor media overdramatization... this is what he is saying out loud now.

And we act as though "oh Biden needs to not just run against Trump... look at the polls!!" etc.

R1, "cheerleading" something indicates a clear support for that outcome.

Discussion of what recently happened, and the mountain of evidence we have before us, is not "cheerleading". It is "being aware of history and consequences".

Of course, you also immediately identified this position as "nonsense" with no support for that.

by Anonymousreply 13November 30, 2023 6:28 PM

R13 Exactly. It's not cheerleading to make all this explicit to a very sleepy and lazy nation. We salute our private causes and tribes (Right: oh keep Trans propaganda out of schools! Left: Israel is a white, colonial oppressor!! Middle: Biden is too old!!!) and we ignore the threat right in front of us.

It's not cheerleading - it's preparing for the war to save our Republic, liberty and democracy.

Remember Don't Tread on Me? Well, we all need to gather around that flag and resist the crazy chaos Trump and his cult want to make happen.

Fixed it for you, r1.

Trump shared a post linking this article on his Truth Social page today, knowing that his cult would welcome a Trump dictatorship with open arms.

The original post came from GOP Rep Cory Mills, who claimed that "Americans from all walks of life, not from any singular socioeconomic background, are in staunch support of Donald J. Trump."

MAGA would HATE a dictatorship if the possibility existed...yet they keep marching behind their leader!
