| by Anonymous | reply 4 | February 19, 2023 5:01 AM |
Best parts for me: the 'victim' identity in all the branding, all the private jets landing on the lawns, and shooting off fireworks yelling for no one to look at them. I thought the part where he leaves the branding place and sincerely wants to be 'a normal person' and she stays behind was prob the most cutting (and accurate) moment
| by Anonymous | reply 5 | February 19, 2023 5:03 AM |
They really went to town on her. "your questionable wife" was a favorite! The messy hair they gave her, "Instagram loving bitch wife", the echo when he looks inside her head and yells " hello" lmfao.

The episode really is very well constructed, and a fine example of the satiric power Stone and Parker still are capable of.
Shooting holes into branding and using that as the theme, with the inauthentic cravenness and stupidity of the Two Lice in that context was brilliant.

I would assume after over 20 years on the air, South Park's lawyers and writers know what they can and cannot put on air without crossing a (legal) line.
My question is, when the fuck are we getting a Ben Affleck/Jennifer Lopez sequel episode???
| by Anonymous | reply 27 | February 21, 2023 12:25 AM |
I don't think we're getting a Bennifer sequel episode, since the original one would be considered racist by modern nutters. All those "taco-flavored kisses" jokes about a girl from New York won't fly now.

Taco-flavored kisses - and JLo as an actual taco - is genius. I used to think it was crude - now I think it is possibly the funniest show ever. Brilliant cutting comedy.

The bad thing for Harry and Meghan is that, for all their irreverence, the creators of South Park are fairly timid. They don’t usually take on the popular, they take in those who are already down (usually deservedly). The episode is a confirmation they were already finished.
| by Anonymous | reply 31 | February 21, 2023 2:56 PM |
It’s parody and they’re not mentioned by name. They could sue but they would lose or be thrown out of court. They have no case, and no respectable attorney would or should take it on.

I'm curious - would Charles (and William, for that matter) think this episode was good, because it may help Harry and Meghan to shut the fuck up ?? Or would he think it was bad because it hurts the BRF, having such an idiot member make such a food of himself on the world stage? Or could they even be concerned that Harry might have a breakdown, or worse?
| by Anonymous | reply 40 | February 21, 2023 11:17 PM |

r40 I think the family might wince at the depiction of the Queen, but other than that, they came out of it well. Also, the fact that baby Ike is a hyper Royalist still crying about her death 4 months after the funeral was funny and a weirdly touching little detail.

Even though I’ve been a bit more sympathetic than most around here to these two attention whores, I absolutely howled during this episode. Harry rubbing his dick on Kyle’s window while impotently demanding respect for his privacy was genius.
Everytime Kyle exasperatedly wished they would just shut up and go away I completely understood the sentiment.
When the prince opened his wife’s squeaking garbage-can lid head and his voice echoed through her empty interior: pure genius!

Talk about hilarity ensues.

Parody is covered by the First Amendment.
The Supreme Court settled that in a case involving parody that was even more vicious. A fake "When Was Your First Time?" ad, wherein Jerry Falwell recalls having sex with his mother in an outhouse.
That went further than South Park. And they used real names.
America libel laws are different from British ones (which is why Liberace sued in England) because of the 1st Amendment.

| by Anonymous | reply 55 | February 22, 2023 3:58 PM |
I thought it was funny, but it went for (and stole) an easy shot.
For well over a year, the comments section of the Daily Mail has been full of "Give Us Our Privacy!" jokes. And other comedy sources have made that joke, too.
And it's sort of based on an error. The annoying couple did not demand privacy, but more of an end to the lies and racism. But that isn't as easy to joke about.
I do hope that Harry and Meghan will see this, realize they are losing the house, and STFU.

Perhaps, technically, they have never uttered the exact words “we want privacy” in that order. Maybe that’s what they mean. Because they’ve said it every other way, in words and with their actions and through their proxies.
Meghan likes to get technical that way. Unless she “forgot”. Because that happens, too. She forgets. It’s not perjury. She just forgot.

Job in sales, possibly real estate, marrying some upper-middle class guy(s) who could give her a decent lifestyle, continuing attempts to become a social media star, enough children to nail down the current marriage and increase her Instagram following among women 30-50. She isn't a good person, but she isn't crazy. Just as self-centered as a gyroscope.

I haven't really been following celeb gossip since around Christmas. Other stuff has been going on and grabbing my attention.
But I did hear about the SP episode and when I came to catch up, I saw H&M are still responding to *everything*, putting out a statement that they won't be suing (because we all know they can't sue) just because they have to address anything that goes on in their little niche section of news. Like, their true, devoted haters are just a small base of Karen's and H&M are obsessed with them.
What a sorry existence.
| by Anonymous | reply 79 | February 23, 2023 4:39 AM |
R79, I read Harry's idiotic book, and FYI he spent about 30 years desperately wanting to put out statements contradicting everything that the press ever said about him. Like when he was doing drugs one place, he wanted the Palace to put out statements saying that tabloid articles saying he did drugs was a complete lie, because they got the location where he did drugs wrong (no, really). He's always wanted to put out statements denying every little petty thing, even if it's true or partially true, and has spent his adult life refusing to believe that a barrage of contradictory statements would be a better way to manage his image than the Palace press office's subtle ways of managing relationships with the press, or the Queen's "Never explain, never complain".
And BTW, this is something that comes straight from Harry, not Meg. Well, maybe Meg agrees, but according to Harry's ghostwriter Harry has wanted to do things this way since he was a teenager.

Oh, I think Meghan is pretty. On the outside. I think she has a pretty face, ugly body. Harry used to be hot (like all Windsors, for a brief time) but has entered fuggo territory. At least he hasn’t gotten fat.
The South Park episode was mild, IMO. Those guys do really raunchy and offensive jokes. I still remember an episode that had a bike whose seat was a dildo and had some other dildo that went in the rider’s mouth. They could have put Harry on one, or concocted some other thing for Meghan. Instead they just mocked their hypocrisy (rather gently, IMO) and branding efforts.

Harry was the press and public's golden boy for nearly 30 years.
What infuriates him most now is that suddenly he was not told "Yes. Of course. Whatever you want." after Meghan came in and started creating an abusive workplace at KP. It spiralled outwards from there. Him defensively and offensively lashing out at KP staff, BP staff, family, even at the Royal Rota press corps - on and on and on. He did it so intensely that stories got out. Losing 13 staff in 12 months is no mean achievement. "What Meghan Wants, Meghan GETS!", so on and so forth, that he managed to turn an entire country of indulgent, affectionate lifelong fans into shocked and disgusted people who want nothing to do with him.
Everyone forgets one major influence on his life. Yes being Royal, obviously, then Diana's death, but what everyone forgets is that he was coddled, indulged, forgiven and gently chuckled at by the entire British public even when he did awful things. They transferred their love for Diana onto "cheeky chappie" Harry wholesale. He was never truly criticised, and never really told "No." too sternly by anyone. He literally grew up like that for decades on end.
He really DOES believe he is above criticism. He's never *truly* known severe criticism until staff began fleeing his employ in tears - and in droves. That led to questions, and when those questions were answered with the tales of how the couple treated everybody, the public turned. A completely new experience for Harry, being anything but the most popular Royal after the Queen herself. He is enraged by the sea change, cannot understand it, and has her whispering self-justifying explanations and accusations of others in his ear.
A fucking mess. I cannot see how he can come back from this.
| by Anonymous | reply 88 | February 23, 2023 1:43 PM |
Part of his resentment towards the press has to be from years of observing his mother’s obsession with it.
| by Anonymous | reply 89 | February 23, 2023 1:59 PM |
Yes, that could contribute to it, r89. But I think the real core of his resentment comes from the fact that the press was ultra-kind to him for decades, and then suddenly began reporting him as he truly was because his behaviour simply spiralled to a new abusive level they could no longer indulgently ignore.
He never recognised that the media were, in fact, being exceedingly kind to him, without fail, until recently. To him, that kindness was merely the way the ought to treat him by right. That's why he's so infuriated and confused by this new media reality his behaviour has instigated and unleashed. We can all now see what an asshole he truly is through the Oprah interview, the Netflix show and the book, not through media reporting. His own words and deeds reveal him to be a grade-A fuckwit with a ridiculous sense of entitlement and a severe nasty streak. Meanwhile he's been reported on since birth and only in the last couple of years have we seen what an exteme asshole he is. That's because the Gloves Were Firmly On. He can't stand that the gloves are off now because he never understood that only the softest of velvety media gloves have been very much on for his entire previous life.
| by Anonymous | reply 90 | February 23, 2023 2:27 PM |
R88 is right, the “cheeky chappy” vs dutiful William (who actually seems quite engaging in those meet and greets). He might have hated the media reporting on his foibles but the public loved it. He was the most popular royal for years…until Meghan. I don’t think his personality changed necessarily but the Oprah interview was mistake. His big chance to rectify all those press errors instead revealed the character he was all along, spoiled, petulant, duuuumb.

"Yes, that could contribute to it, [R89]. But I think the real core of his resentment comes from the fact that the press was ultra-kind to him for decades"
No. I read his book, and he has believed the press was abusive since he was a teenager at least, there's a hilarious bit in the book where he first talks about smoking dope with his chums at Eton... and then flipped out because the horrible evil gutter press has printed "lies" about him using drugs!
It's all like that, through the whole book. He has absolutely no clue that the press was in fact being kind to him and that the Palace was hushing up a lot of his bad behavior, to this day he believes the Palace should have demanded retractions of stories, because they got the location where he used illegal drugs wrong, even if they were absolutely right about his using illegal drugs. He also absolutely, positively believes that his mother dies because of paps chasing her, and that her driver being drunk was not a factor, and because he's projected all his Oedipal issues onto his wife, he thinks that the press will kill her too if he isn't given the kind of security that most heads of state dream of. When it comes to his thoughts about the press, he's somewhere between irrational and batshit.
| by Anonymous | reply 97 | February 23, 2023 10:50 PM |
I love how the show had him say he hates journalists, then he gets accused of being one himself, for reporting on the royal family.
IRL, the letter he wrote to the press blasting them for for their coverage of Markle was only ever going to cause trouble. Same when later the Harkles further criticised DM and the red tops and told them they wouldn't co-operate with them anymore. And then in one of the Megxit missives, the Harkles stated they'd work with grass-roots journalists, but their first post-Megxit interview was with Oprah, with Gayle King serving up morsels in the aftermath.
South Park could have gone a lot further in laying out the hypocrisy and own goals. Then there's the bullying...

Also, that's why he & meghan have such a bond, she is also a survivor of abuse.

r57 Look at the Sussex Royal website. The first few lines and paragraphs. They effectively did ask for privacy saying they wanted to remove the medias public interest defence for reporting on them. It's not that they didn't push for privacy its that they want contradictory irreconcilable things because emotionally they seem to function like teenagers.

A Penguin RH executive was interviewed about the book's success. He was practically giddy until asked about the follow-up. Then his mood dampened and gave a vague not-so-giddy response. You have to wonder what editors thought about the extra 400 pages that were axed.
What was removed and for what reason? Legal reasons like possibly being open to libel and defamation accusations? The family won't sue, but maybe he talked shit about others who would. Were his complaints redundant and became boring after several rinse and repeats? Did Harry yammer on incessantly about trivial subjects? Did Moehringer and the editors simply not believe some of his material and fact checkers couldn't find evidence? Basically, did they try to save Harry from himself and make him more believable? I'm intrigued by what might be in the omitted material.
| by Anonymous | reply 115 | February 26, 2023 7:17 PM |
As much as I hate him/them, I have to hand it to them - the best selling non-fiction book in modern times? something like that.
I thought it would be a snoozefest of pablum. Congrats, Moehringer. And just keep on being the idiot you are, Haz. You and Uncle Andrew are the gifts that keep on giving.
And you, Meg, are simply a boring basic bitch. Go away.

I don't think Meghan is embarrassed or upset at the negative attention 'Spare' is getting.
I think she's upset that SouthPark made a fool out of her - and her podcast, and previous cartoon Princess Pearl Conquers the World, have been such abject, boring failures. She can't accomplish a damned thing on her own. But he can!
| by Anonymous | reply 117 | February 26, 2023 7:25 PM |
Prince Tidger really can't accomplish anything on his own, either, absent his connection to the family he hates.

"I'm intrigued by what might be in the omitted material."
Judging from the finished book, 400 pages of complaining about the press.
| by Anonymous | reply 119 | February 26, 2023 11:16 PM |
The point South Park made at the end was subtle and damning to Meghan--she must be furious if she got it.
Harry was born permafamous. He'll be the one the public is interested in until he dies--he'll keep on playing his loud, annoying drum beat (hence him on the drum kit at the end), and people will put up with it just like the SP kids did.
Meghan is an empty vessel who, without Harry, will disappear from the picture entirely.

I think Meghan was pretty but childbirth absolutely wrecked her and she never came back from it. I like her hair so much more when it was bouncy and wavy like Kates. She looks so hard now. The best thing about the World Wide Privacy Tour, besides everything, were the magazine covers. All were exact replicas. The Cut cover reminded me how hard Meghan looks these days and between the filler and huge weave, looks much thicker than she did when. she was in the UK.
| by Anonymous | reply 125 | February 28, 2023 3:22 AM |
Harry's new pay per view endeavor with the trauma and addiction specialist should provide SP writers with much grist for the parody mill.
I wonder if Harry will be self-conscious, hold back, and attempt to be thoughtful or at least present that way? Or will he use his PPV to lash out and rage at Comedy Central, Parker and Stone, handing them very early Xmas presents?
Either way they'll chew him up. Maybe they'll blow him up a la Spinal Tap drummer Mick Shrimpton when he once again retreats to his drum kit. (Maybe that was the plan all along. Drum kit? I wondered. How odd)
| by Anonymous | reply 126 | February 28, 2023 3:44 AM |
^Actually, correcting myself. Mick wasn't blown up, he spontaneously combusted while on his drum kit which is actually what Harry is doing slow-mo in real time, if that makes sense
SP is definitely coming up with a Part II. Ratings for rebroadcast on Wednesday should be *interesting.*
| by Anonymous | reply 127 | February 28, 2023 3:53 AM |
Absolutely right, R125. I also found her particularly hard-looking and flinty-eyed in the Oprah interview. She was unable to keep the spite in her heart from writing itself all over her face. She also isn't beautiful enough to pull off the expression she attempted on the cover of The Cut, either, and again just looked hard.
| by Anonymous | reply 128 | February 28, 2023 3:59 AM |
"I think Meghan was pretty but childbirth absolutely wrecked her and she never came back from it."
It's true, she was very pretty before she had the kids, and now she's... above average for an American woman of forty.
Harry's looks have declined much more sharply. He used to be tall, fit, and rather handsome, now he's starting to look like Henry VIII.
Offsite Link| by Anonymous | reply 129 | February 28, 2023 4:52 AM |
Why did they put that hideous photo of Meghan on the cover the The Cut? Not just freckles, but splotches, little dark lines, what looks to be pimples? Wasn't there a makeup artist anywhere around?
But one thing about narcissists, they are so out of touch with reality, and so enamored of themselves, that they can think they look great when they look like shit. (see Madonna) So maybe she thought she looked dreamy ?!?

| by Anonymous | reply 134 | February 28, 2023 10:15 AM |
I was peering at that flying saucer/white hat yesterday, and it looks to me like an uncovered buckram form. You can see the stitches on the edges that hold the wire on. And it's not even hand made, but something spit out at a factory. A normal person would have covered the naked form in fabric to harmonize with the dress and attach a light ribbon or whimsical posy. It's like clueless Sparkles is wearing a coat lining as an outer garment.

I didn’t find this episode funny at all. It’s the shit everyone has been saying for years. They just put it into an episode format. Too easy. The only bit that would actually be funny is if Meghan and Harry are really threatening to sue over it. Other than that, South Park is just boring. After 25 plus years, they were bound to get stale, just like The Simpsons. Even the trans episodes were too easy. Too bad no one else beyond Bill Maher will take on those sorts of topics now but South Park really hasn’t put any sort of a twist on any of it. It just is. A forced regurgitation of everyone’s public arguments about certain topics. It just ain’t funny. Spitting Image did do a funny bit with Harry working in a Starbucks after leaving for LA though - that’s something different. The Meghan and Harry want privacy but do everything to invite the public in is too easy. We already know. Everyone has said that. South Park added nothing to it.
| by Anonymous | reply 137 | February 28, 2023 7:28 PM |
No, "everyone" has not said what "we already know." In fact, next to no-one has had the audacity, worrying about getting sued, harassed and cancelled. I'm looking forward to a rumored second episode.
To twist the knife, Wednesday night they are re-broadcasting the show.

I'm not sure non-Canadians realize how small-time Reitmans is. I'm convinced she was an asshole on the shoot (as reported by Bower) because she was conscious of the fact that it's anything but a high-end brand. Quite the opposite. She believed she deserved the Vogue cover and there she was doing commercials for a Canadian mall store chain.

Lorne Michaels has said that the most beloved caricatures of famous people by the actors on SNL always made them out to be lovable while they lampooned them, from Dana Carvey as George H. W. Bush and Ross Perot to Tina Fey as Sarah Palin to Cecily Strong as Jeannine Pirro. None of those people were/are actually lovable in real life, but their SNL impersonators's versions of them were.
One thing I liked about this episode was that while it may not have made Harry and Sarah lovable, it did make them weirdly endearing, especially when they timidly watch from their front window to see how Kyle will react to all the magazine covers pasted on his door.
