I remember when they didn't "talk". I was in high school when they gave them personalities (attitudes) and I was so put off that they were ALL ASSHOLES.
It was the '90s and that was, in my observation, when sarcasm started being replaced by actual humor. I could be wrong, as I was still a kid myself, but that's how I remember it.

I wonder how many gay/lesbian kids were beat to death this week? I wonder how all those ACT-UP queens and dykes who fought for AIDS awareness are being cared for these days? For me, it's rather strange that people want their food to have human traits and personalities. Do they imagine, when they eat an M&M, that it screams in agony while being crushed and ripped apart by their teeth? The young woman giving her "testimony" in the link below had an appalling childhood. A listless alcoholic father, a mother who had chronic anxiety, a grandmother who was a hoarder and very emotionally abusive, all which led to her moving multiple times in her life. This chaotic, rudderless upbringing led her to question everything and I mean EVERYTHING. Her arc of inquiry went as follows straight female to bisexual female to lesbian to transgender male all within 2 years or so. Really! It was until she got STRUCTURE and STABILITY in her life, all that flotsam & jetsam (the BTQIAA) evaporated.
15:45 to 18:30 is what you wanted to listen.
***WARNING*** It's a Christian Testimony so there's going to be some uncomfortable views on being gay, but I don't recall it being virulent or a screed using the old canards that anti-gays used in the past. I'm only posting this as anecdotal evidence to support R13.
