Oh sure they had a little success writing songs for the Monkees but were fired for using Monkee studio time for themselves. They wrote the theme to the Monkees, Valleri and Last Train To Clarksville.
Then they spitefully told the world upon their departure, they Monkees didn't play their own instruments, they just recorded their voices over the tracks Boyce and Hart recorded.
They had one hit song "I Wonder What She's Doing Tonight", which reached No. 8 and four others to make the top 100
Then they humiliated themselves by appearing on Bewitched, I Dream of Jeanie and the Flying Nun. The failed back door pilot "Getting Together," from the Partridge Family was loosely based on them,
Hart then dumped Boyce and tried to write with Danny Janssen producing a top 20 hit for Helen Reddy, "Keep on Singing."
Boyce and Hart came crawling beck to Davy Jones and Micky Dolenz, to perform as the Monkees, till they were told to stop using the name. They continued to perform as Dolenz, Jones, Boyce & Hart.
On November 23, 1994, he committed suicide by gunshot. Rolling Stones magazine said in the obit, the duo wrote over 300 songs but no one ever heard of most of them.

Tragically underrated. America's answer to Lennon and McCartney. Better than Simon and Garfunkel.

All of those, along with "The Monkees," were from Columbia/Screen Gems. And the Monkees recorded on Colgems (COLumbia/ScreenGEMS) records. Cross-promotion/synergy.
Boyce & Hart released their initial albums on A&M, however.

Isn’t it sad that I can immediately hear Serena singing and grooving to “Blow you a Kiss in the Wind?” …. Big question - did they write Serena’s big song “If’n?”

Their Flying Nun performance was harder rock.
A little surprising.

Boyce and Hart’s collapse was complete by 1971.

Keep On Singing was in 1973 so I'd push that date back a few years
