What a camp-FEST!!!!
The glorious Streisand song- the gorgeous opening- the amazingly soap opera-ish ending!!!
What a GREAT film!!!!
I love the last 5 minutes.
Spoiler.
When she stabs the psycho- and that amazing closeup, and the music blares!!!
And then the closing mimics the opening...
And that FUCKING APARTMENT!!!!!
Its a visual and campy feast for the senses.
And the Streisand song is supremely underrated.

I've never been a big Barbra fan, but "Prisoner" was a decent song.

Barbra went darker and more experimental with this song-- something she should have done more often. It's marvelous.

I wish that the "film" version was released, with the orchestra underneath? I really dig it-

There are a whole lot of folks that would call Prisoner one of Streisand’s bad attempts at pop. Truth is she has more or less gone in all directions, mostly with success. The version of Way We Were over the credits is gorgeous (richer timbre and faster tempo) and much better than the version that became the hit (which is saccharine rather than wistful like the movie version.) Your the Top over the Doc credits is smashing. Laura Mars is schlock entertainment if it’s day- which I think is better than the special effects blasting sound schlock of today.

The film is all about the last five minutes!!!!
That apt.
The camerawork.
The closeup.
The music.

It’s a Fashionista film, hence its cult-like status among the Fashion cognoscenti.

It's interesting to see what Soho looked like in the late 70s. Totally different from what it became. It really looked slummy and shitty back then.

This movie is all about Rene Auberjenois’ hair.

I had fun with it. Not one of the best 70's horror/thrillers, but really entertaining. The theme song is pretty terrific, too.

Saw it for the first time a couple of months ago. Loved the photo shoots and thought her apartment was to die for.

I’m not sure I’d have waited in that pig sty police station, but I did witness a crime, once.

Insurance fraud.
I was in a cab in San Francisco once. The driver took his foot off the break and the cab gently tapped the car ahead.
The driver and passenger in front made a big deal of it. He even got out aggressively. The cabbie chased him back. Then an ambulance was called, but neither took it.
I told the cab driver I would wait with him as long as it took. And it took at least an hour or two. They were clearly faking injury and doing a bad job of it. And, [italic] it was the cabby’s first day! [/Italic] Probably his last, I’d imagine.
The cab company wrote me [this was before email] and I wrote them back and said the bump was less than you get from driving over a trolly track, etc. Case dismissed!
It was two gay guys who were faking. I don’t know about the cabby.
I wrote the cab company months later how it went and they ignored me. Then I wrote them again weeks more later, and they sent me a nice note. They probably thought I wanted money, but I just wanted to know how it went.
And I saw it with my own eyes!

If you had psychic visions that interfered with your normal eyesight, would you really drive a car?

But art and romance were blossoming in Soho gutters in '78!

John Carpenter, yes creator of Halloween/Michael Myers, wrote the script to this movie
Surprised no one has mentioned that yet
| by Anonymous | reply 26 | October 6, 2019 12:09 PM |
There's a story in Adrienne Barbeau's memoirs where she talks about how John Carpenter (who she was with at the time) went to Barbra Streisand's house to persuade her to star as Laura Mars and she kept hitting on him. I thought that was funny. Babs sounds like a horn dog. I think she found the whole script too violent, so she passed, but agreed to sing the theme song at least.

^R27 Didn't hair cutter turned mega producer and Babs sperm provider Jon Peters produce Eyes of Lurid Mess?
| by Anonymous | reply 28 | October 6, 2019 7:27 PM |
He did. I'm sure that's why Streisand agreed to do the theme song at the very least.
