What is with him? He broke off with longterm girlfriend Emma Stone, then all of sudden there are now reports of them vacationing together in Turkey and Greece. Yet he attended Gay Pride in London wearing a rainbow sticker on his forehead. He also penned a thoughtful but intimate essay on Orlando tragedy, while he used pronouns such as 'we' and 'us', implying he is a part of LGBT community. Not to mention him lobbing pretty hard for pansexual Spiderman, his close friendship with other heavily rumored to be at least bi actors such as RPattz or Tom Sturridge, or the whole heavy PR angle to his relationship with Stone (they broke off just after Spiderman 3 was announced to be kaput, for starters). So, what sayeth Datalounge?

While promoting his new movie 99 Homes, Andrew Garfield snapped during an interview with NY Magazine's Vulture. He said (unprecedented ?) "Why the fuck am I doing this ? Coming in today to do interviews, I’m like, ‘Why?’ I know that I’m an actor and it's part of the job, and I feel lucky I get to do that, but with the interviews, it’s such a weird thing. What do I have to say?"
The interviewer then went on to ask questions about the movie to which Garfield replied: "It’s so heavy even talking about it. Hearing you talk, I just suddenly feel like my head is wrapped in cellophane. How do we wake up, how do I wake up? What do I do? Because I can stand here and be like, ’We need to fucking do shit.' I can say that. But if I’m not doing anything, what the fuckk am I really doing?"

99 Homes was the biggest downer of a movie I ever saw in my entire life. I think it grossed less than 100K in receipts during its extremely brief run. Hardly a feel good movie.

Emma Stone fell into hard drugs (mainly coke) and developed ED throughout their relationship. Either he is an abusive boyfriend or she got fed up with bearding.

R21 There are tons of drug rumors about her. Of course nothing People magazine can post. But you can see for yourself if you google photos of her from 2013 or 2014 when she was seriously underweight. I read posts from people who went to see the Broadway show she starred in and noticed how unhealthy she looked. Borderline on anorexic.

She looked the worst - like gaunt level of Jolie - around TASM 2 premiere in 2014. Now she has put on some weight for her Billie Jean King role and finally has a but. I guess Garfield likes 'em prepubescent/boyish bodies.

His next movie is Scorsese's Silence, based on Shushaku Endo's novel, which is an interesting novel. I really hope it's a hit so Scorsese will maybe stop casting DiCaprio in absolutely everything. It's good to see him use a different leading man for a change.
| by Anonymous | reply 30 | July 9, 2016 12:14 AM |
Couldn't agree more more, R30. I've never understood Scorsese's fascination with DiCaprio. And as someone who liked Endo's book (and likes Garfield) I'm curious to see the movie.
| by Anonymous | reply 31 | July 9, 2016 12:23 AM |
It's not even that I dislike DiCaprio. I think he's a good actor, but he is badly miscast IMO in Scorsese's movies, he is all wrong for many of the parts he chooses. Scorsese may think he's the heir to De Niro, but De Niro was a round peg fitting into round holes in movies like Taxi Driver, King of Comedy etc. DiCaprio is a square peg.

| by Anonymous | reply 39 | July 9, 2016 12:09 PM |
R37 I don't know, she was convincing to me in Birdman. She is the best when playing a snarky dry characters in comedy, though. I wonder how would she fare in more action movie since her Gwen was pretty much a typical love interest.
Garfield might be talented but he is less charismatic than her on screen and has no memorable screen presence. He is not a leading man material, more like a character actor. His biggest problem is his obnoxious, negative personality, if Sony leaks are anything to go by. Though reading R4 post, it seems he is either on a verge of breakdown or a typical douche 'i am true thespian, not a mere actor' English snob.

I too think Garfield is remarkably handsome, makes my pants smoulder. In that tight spidey suit, dios mio! Unlike most of DL, I'm most attracted to lean and slender men. I also think Ben Whishaw is captivating and find myself fantasizing about him; wondering if that was his ass we saw in the London Spy pilot, because he's yummy.
I truly hope Garfield is gay, but I cannot ignore my hunch that he's at the most a bisexual. His past two relationships with women seem genuine. But God, I'm praying to be proven wrong. And yes, I know I have no chance with him either way. First off, I'm in Canada so...

James Norton for a start.
I've liked Garfield since I first saw him in "Red Riding."
I agree that Stone is a lesbian.
Scorsese may have blown smoke up DiCaprio's ass, but they were basically using each other. DiCaprio believed Scorsese would win him the Oscar (obviously wrong there). Meanwhile, DiCaprio guaranteed Scorsese would get funding for his projects. In spite of the acclaim, there was a time when Scorsese couldn't get arrested in Hollywood.

No, r75, the critics will eat it up, but the general audiences will treat it like the plague. Screen tests were meh and cinema owners were lukewarm on it, just like they were about The Nice Guys, which tanked despite glowing reviews.
That trailer is a misrepresentation of the final product. However, the GG being what they are, Stone will get a nomination.
| by Anonymous | reply 86 | July 28, 2016 12:48 PM |

| by Anonymous | reply 87 | July 28, 2016 4:24 PM |
Just that the reviewers were mediocre about it. But I have been in screen tests where the audience had to be brain dead because of the movie they fawning over that went on to terrible reviews and flopped. The opposite could happen here. I was surprised The Nice Guys flopped so hard after tons of press and great reviews. Not a big money maker, but much better.

R86 You are either lying or you know nothing. The feedback from screen test was overwhelmingly positive. Go and read the thread posted on Awards Watch where the actual insiders post. Lots of praises for the movie and many, many speculate it'll get BA, BD, BS & BOS and BP noms.
| by Anonymous | reply 91 | July 28, 2016 8:07 PM |
People who think this movie will tank because ' they just think so' are making me laugh. It's set to open Venice Film Festival, it'll be screening on TIFF, and it has one of the best distributors (Summit Entertainment) behind it. Of course it won't make as much money as your recent superhero movies, but it won't be a total disaster and it'll likely receive numerous awards. Hollywood just loves movies about Hollywood.
| by Anonymous | reply 92 | July 28, 2016 8:19 PM |

r92, needs to calm down. It is just a movie. Opening a film festival doesn't mean shit. Ask Jake G. who had films opening TIFF and Venice last year. It is a crapshoot.
Test screenings for A Violent Year were mediocre, but I kept reading how great they were. It got some predictable awards/critic love, but the general public didn't not love it despite A24's push. Same with Black Mass and Steve Jobs. And when was the last time Stone or Gosling opened a movie? People were all over them together in Gangster Squad. People like musicals...when Disney does them.

Garfield does it for me, and I admired his passionate 'Time Out' essay post-Orlando. Not sure any other actor made a similar statement.
Re: AG being 'gay in the theatre', I'll repeat again the long-ago DL post which said it was well-known in the company that he was close to his 'Salesman' brother co-actor during the acclaimed Broadway run.

I'm so glad it was you who posted R108, Kansas City. I can't stand your taste in men any more than your "It's only for dancing" taste in music. I have never understood the presumed attractiveness of either Sean Connery or David Gandy (or, as you call him, "DAVID GANDY").
Please hate Matthew Goode, Hugh Dancy, and Jamie Dornan.

..Yeah R110.. The key and operative word being OUT about BI identification. Took me about 30yrs of living to learn and experience, seeing-is-believing validation that ALL MEN ARE BISEXUAL... to varying degrees on the spectrum. No Soul/R&B choices..Sounded like only boring old White guys posting 50yr old snoozes majority doesn't know or care..Sorry.. Matthew Goode.. Gorgeous guy. Sean Connery caused a seismic shift. A drop dead beautiful guy, who's masculine AND intelligent. Bumping chicks to the side in the 60's that men as sex symbols works well. I only mentioned Gandy as a prop to England. I actually find him too pretty and polished. Hugh Dancy is OK.. Nothing spectacular, to me anyway. James Wilby, in his day, handsome. Charlie Hunnum? Fine ass blondie. Jamie Dornan is exceptional, but lacks charisma and personality, in my opinion. Dude please. Sean Connery so animalistic, magnetic and just down right sexy, and a face that would've had DaVinci creaming his breeches to paint. The GLOBE lusted over Connery. You're in the minority on that report. You've got pretty decent taste in guys R111. I think we have more in common than naught. Maybe not so much in music though...Earth,Wind and Fire?
| by Anonymous | reply 115 | July 30, 2016 5:00 AM |
Sean Connery reminded me of the brothers who taught me in Catholic school. No way I wanted to pay to see that in a theatre. I saw "Goldfinger" and "Thunderball" and I was done. Also, your perceived boner quotient to the side, by the time the next one came out, James Bond was about as cool as Frank Sinatra, drinking, or the Vietnam war. So I never felt even a little bit compelled to see another until I was staying in FL for a week in 1972, and there was literally nothing to do but see "Diamonds Are Forever.
Sean Connery is not, and never has been, attractive to me. My favorite thing about him is that he spells "Sean" correctly.
As for EWF, I like "September," but I've never bought one of their records. Though age-appropriate, I did not buy my first disco records until 1980, when a friend visited me for a month and found a twink boyfriend.
Long live PET SOUNDS. And SMiLe.

..Wow R116-R117? I'm eating delicious slice humble pie. Our life's experiences different. Catholic Schooler here too. No brothers or priests looked like Connery in my schools. But there was this one hot priest in 7th-8th. Damn...You busted me kinda half assing my responses. I was thinking up names and yadda-yadda-yadda on the spot, without real knowledge or conviction.. you called me out on it. Need to actually think on it for 2 or3 names. Alan Bates? Connery one of my first, gay crushes... Matthew Goode also very handsome, magnetic... piercing eyes, quiet intelligence. Jamie Dornan's boyishly handsome. Shy and coy. I think James Wilby, circa 1987, my boyish blonde preference...

...Also R116 I owe you an apology for ragging on you about your music choices/preferences. That's exactly what they are...YOUR preferences. No right to judge...Sorry.. We just have different experiences on a common journey. My actual favorite British/Rock or whatever..artists, band, album..Don't laugh at me...We're sharing a bonding experience here right? :-) ..... Def Leppard...Hysteria 2nd:Pyromania..I also adore Queen, but honestly can't listen to ANY album all the way through. Dark Side of the Moon...perhaps. You sound like a nice guy, and don't give me shit being from KC. I kinda like how you call me Kansas City..without shade or a slam.. Thank You. Didn't know what the fuck I was yammering about, and you called me out on it. Well played Sir........been....uh...humbling. About to hit the road to Texas for family reunion at 5:00a Thanks for the teach... Wow, I actually had a enjoyable conversation and discourse with a Boomer, and came away a better person...well maybe not all that... I'm smiling on my upcoming Highway to Hell. Thanks Dude..... TTYL? R116. Beach Boys fav: Good Vibration, In My Room, Surfer Girl....Stirs me to my soul. Pie delish..:-)

R116 God Only Knows..In your face harmonies and layers. Sorry dude. Olivia Newton-John is the shit... Her singing, ELO soundtrack, awesome dancing in Xanadu had a closeted, Catholic School geek in pure gay heaven. Came of age in 80's. Making Love.. Michael Ontkean...OMG.

R120 I refer you to R61.. Nuff said..

Hacksaw Ridge trailer came out today. It's looks endearing, though the title character's aversion to guns at least means that republicans won't flock to it.

I'm looking forward to his Scorsese film. Maybe now that Di Caprio has his Oscar he'll stop ruining Marty's pictures...

R119 I call you “Kansas City” because, well, you've declared it to be part of your name, and I don’t feel like typing “Anonymous in” every time. And it’s so much better, and easier to remember, than R-whatever.
As for the British groups, my favorites are the Beatles and the Kinks. More ‘60s boomer stuff, I’m afraid. I don’t have anything by Def Leppard, Hysteria, 2nd:Pyromania, or Queen. I don’t know how, but I missed Queen in the ‘70s. I caught up with them in this decade, and like you, I don't want to listen a complete Queen album, either.
Dark Side of the Moon was playing in every male dorm room when I was in college (Court & Spark by Joni Mitchell was its female complement), and I heard it so regularly, I didn’t need a copy. I finally got one when a friend gave me all of her LPs in the 2000s. I tried The Wall a little later, and didn’t like it. I sold both of them.
Today, I have iTunes on shuffle. The song of the moment is “’Til” by the Angels. As for ONJ, better left unsaid.
Oh, and I love, love, love Andrew Garfield. You must be one of those “Hot Daddy” queens that you prefer Sean Connery.
Have fun at the ray-yoon-YOAN.
Shuffle is now on Beethoven's Symphony No. 4. Leonard Bernstein's first recording.

Hacksaw Ridge looks weird as hell. Directed by Mel Gibson and produced by the studio that made TWILIGHT.
| by Anonymous | reply 127 | July 30, 2016 8:14 PM |
Hacksaw Ridge looks good enough to watch at home, whenever that becomes available.

He's ugly with a long horse face.
| by Anonymous | reply 129 | July 30, 2016 9:05 PM |
He's a pretentious fuck who is too neurotic. I suspect nervous breakdown in future.
| by Anonymous | reply 131 | July 30, 2016 9:24 PM |
He sounds extremely insufferable, childish and whiny. Thinking he is some sort of Thinking Artist when he signed up for an action role in reboot of a comic book franchise. He should stick to indie and art house movies where he belongs.

Agreed, he should stick to indie and arthouse. Still, he was the best Spider-Man.

[quote]Still, he was the best Spider-Man.
Tom Holland captured who Spiderman is supposed to be in his "Civil War" appearance more than any other live action Peter Parker has done. I am a fan of Garfield and I think he is family, but that is just the truth.

..Hey there Boomer Bud, R126/R130? Hot Daddy queen. I reckon. Never thought about myself. Seems kinda me, other than broader more vague "TOP". Culturally, it seems you're outta my league Kind Sir.. The only classical work I personally know and love being MOONLIGHT SONATA by Beethoven. So hauntingly beautiful. Apparently being a Scorpio, I'm predisposed to like anyway, according to astrologers. You sorta come off as a Taurus to me, strong-willed, domestically inclined, culturally rich...... I'm jamming Prince,"I Wanna Be Your Lover", on my personal mix. DePeche Mode "Strange Love", "Policy of Truth", "Personal Jesus" on tap. Will to Power "I'm Not in Love", Pat Benatar "Heartbreaker", "I'm Gonna Follow You", "You Better Run", Joan Jett "Crimson and Clover", "I Hate Myself", "The French Song" coming up..... Hypocrite alert..... How dare I try to take you to task for no R&B selects, when I don't really care for syrupy, sappy love ballads myself. EWF's "Shining Star" and "The Way of the World", popularly appealing..............Andrew Garfield is attractive, in that awkward, geeky, boy-next-door kind of way, to me anyway. I tend to crush on brooding classically handsome types... Sean Connery, (I also prefer Sean spelled this way too), Oliver Reed, Pierce Brosnan, Idris Elba, Ian McClellan, James Purefoy, more my types....... New York, it's heritage, depths culturally and musically, has the MOST to offer. Appears a deep and reflective guy like you, Boomer Bud, has utilized ^^ in an enlightened way, OP's like me, can then share in your knowledge and observations, to our advantage and enrichment. Thanks New York Boomer Bud... Dude, you ROCK!!! Your friends and associates are blessed, as well as Andrew Garfield, having an admirer, as deep and intellectually well-versed and well-rounded as you are "NEW YORK". Pillow talk with you real 'quality time'.

Andrew was the emo Spiderman. He did a good job, but emo got tiresome when the personal tragedies kept piling up. Wish the films had focused on action and adventure instead of going for the tears.

The fangirls are excited because there are recent oictures of Andrew and Emma walking in the streets together. Not touching of course but they are convinced these two are dating again
| by Anonymous | reply 138 | August 23, 2016 9:23 PM |
But why have they been seen together again?
| by Anonymous | reply 139 | August 24, 2016 12:19 AM |
Boomer could shrewdly sell snow to an Alaskan. Older Garfield, looking better and better. I think the beard, (though I prefer him without) made me take another look. He's looking damn good.
| by Anonymous | reply 140 | August 24, 2016 12:45 AM |
Just thought I'd treat you to a picture of Garfield's own caftan-wearing.

[quote] In September 2015, talking with Mic about Spider-Man being portrayed as pansexual sometime in the future, Garfield described his own personal sexual orientation as such: "Love is love. Skin is skin. Flesh is flesh. We're all wrapped in the same thing. I have no preference."
Why is there even a discussion about his sexuality? This is from his Wikipedia, ffs. Are people still pretending he's straight?
Offsite Link| by Anonymous | reply 142 | September 3, 2016 4:06 PM |
It was clearly ambiguous enough that no one has slipped his cute little booty into a category on Wikipedia though.

Not dating. The fangirls need to calm down
