Can you show it to us w/out having to sign in to realtor.com?

by Anonymousreply 1October 20, 2023 10:32 PM

House or banquet facility? Very nice but I'd worry about the next mudslide/earthquake.

by Anonymousreply 2October 20, 2023 10:34 PM

I didn’t have to sign in to see the photos. But it looks like a restaurant with beds.

by Anonymousreply 4October 20, 2023 10:34 PM

Obviously a stellar location with no neighbors but it’s very brown.

by Anonymousreply 5October 20, 2023 10:35 PM

R4 I’m using an old iPad right now. Don’t people usually post a photo at the top of the thread, at least?

by Anonymousreply 6October 20, 2023 10:37 PM

If I had $25 million to spend on a house in California this would be on my short list. It's breathtaking

by Anonymousreply 8October 20, 2023 10:41 PM

It's spectacular. The location, OMG.

Maybe I'd be afraid it might fall into the ocean in a shaker. It's too big for my taste. I don't like the open floor plan of the sitting rooms, where everyone can see everyone else on different floors, that's institutional-feeling, like a college reading room.

Everything else I loved. E.g., the lack of window treatments on the bedrooms. The sun rises in the east, so no one's bothered by too bright mornings in CA. And everyone wants to see the sunset.

by Anonymousreply 9October 20, 2023 10:43 PM

25 Mil for a 2 bed 2 bath? Yeesh

by Anonymousreply 10October 20, 2023 10:45 PM

It looks like a set from a 90s erotic thriller, with Sharon Stone running down the stairs in lingerie to escape her abusive killer husband, played by Antonio Banderas, who killed his assistant/mistress (played by Lara Flynn Boyle)., and now plans to off Sharon.

Sharon’s cop ex boyfriend (Bruce Willis) would save her by throwing Antonio to his death over the balcony (or did he die….).

The movie would be highly controversial for its sex scene between Stone (full tit and minge on display) and Willis (his cock obscured by the shower door’s frosted glass).

by Anonymousreply 11October 20, 2023 10:53 PM

Wow. It’s like in a movie. Huge 180° views but completely private, no neighbors.

by Anonymousreply 12October 20, 2023 10:53 PM

I get that the ocean views are the entire point, but still, I could enjoy it just as much maybe 20 feet back.

by Anonymousreply 13October 20, 2023 10:54 PM

I’d sleep out on the deck every night and fall asleep to the sound of the ocean and wake up bathed in sunshine.

by Anonymousreply 15October 20, 2023 11:01 PM

It's a long way from anywhere on a highway that's frequently blocked by rock slides.

by Anonymousreply 17October 21, 2023 2:08 AM

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

by Anonymousreply 18October 21, 2023 2:12 AM

Have vertigo and despise cliff houses. I don't mind a solid house set back from a rocky coastline or cliff, however. In Irish farmhouse set back from a seaside cliff is OK.

by Anonymousreply 19October 21, 2023 3:22 AM

It’s beautiful. But $25 million seems nuts. It’s a vacation home for a couple. Someone will correct me if I’m wrong, but it would’ve difficult to host a big event there because no hotels in the immediate area? So you couldn’t even have ten people over for thanksgiving?

I might be confused about the location.

by Anonymousreply 20October 21, 2023 3:38 AM

What the hell is that white...thing...on its own little rocky promontory to the northwest? Is that a sculpture? If I'm forking over $25 million for the house, I want the removal of that ugly thing included in the purchase price.

by Anonymousreply 21October 21, 2023 6:36 AM

[quote]it would’ve difficult to host a big event there because no hotels in the immediate area?

Actually there is a Hyatt a few miles up the road with a similar view. Kind of dated, was been there over 100 years then remolded in the 70's, then remolded when the hotel chain took it over. Rooms start at 600 a night.

by Anonymousreply 23October 21, 2023 7:29 AM

That house has been there a long time it looks like, all you folks worried about earthquakes and it falling off into the ocean need to stop clutching your pearls so much, it's cutting off the oxygen supply to your brain.

by Anonymousreply 25October 21, 2023 7:39 AM

If I had 25 million to buy a house on the coast of California, it wouldn't be in Big Sur. And don't get me wrong... I love Big Sur, it's one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. But it's too remote, and as someone upthread mentioned it's roads get blocked periodically and you're really stuck there.

by Anonymousreply 26October 21, 2023 8:10 AM

Generally structures built into solid rock don't get damaged in earthquakes. It's houses built on fill or sandy ground that get leveled. I wouldn't like to live there year 'round for all the reasons listed above. But if I had the dough to drop 25 million on a vacation home, that would be towards the top of my list.

by Anonymousreply 27October 21, 2023 9:35 AM

[quote]If I had 25 million to buy a house on the coast of California

If you had $25M to spend on a bolthole for occasional weekend relaxing, you's probably have at least another $400M of net worth available to spend on your serious living

but yeah, I wouldn't want it either

by Anonymousreply 28October 21, 2023 2:37 PM

If I had enough to maintain it and not worry, I'd be glad to be there. People would leave you alone.

by Anonymousreply 29October 21, 2023 8:34 PM

Any house in that price range on the coast or in a big city is going to have a small crew to maintain it. If you have 25 million to drop on a house, that's probably not much of a second thought. You think Anderson Cooper or any of those other rich east coast queens clean and fix things around their own house?

by Anonymousreply 30October 21, 2023 9:44 PM

It must be quite challenging to find people to do any kind of service work in that area since it's very sparsely populated, very expensive, and a very long drive to even a small population center (the Monterey Bay Area or the San Luis Obispo area.)

by Anonymousreply 31October 21, 2023 10:23 PM

Carmel is right op the road from that. It's not that remote. Thousands of people drive down it every day, it's a big bucket list road trip for people. Yes, it's not like living in NYC. But it's not exactly rural either. If you pay them enough they will come. Besides, most workers like that in NYC probably have a longer commute time in reality.

by Anonymousreply 32October 21, 2023 10:31 PM

Sure. Lots of service workers can afford to live in Carmel.

by Anonymousreply 33October 21, 2023 10:32 PM

It has a spectacular setting. I agree 100% with r15, as I basically imagine it nightly with a YouTube of ocean waves on my TV!

But I also agree with r13! Maybe a wee bit set inland more?

I wouldn't have wanted to be on the construction crew!

by Anonymousreply 34October 21, 2023 10:35 PM

You dont think there are any service workers in Carmel? Who's serving the food? Who's cleaning the toilets?

by Anonymousreply 35October 21, 2023 10:35 PM

Where would my dogs poo? Over a cliff into the water?

by Anonymousreply 36October 21, 2023 10:38 PM

Service workers can make a lot of money. Tree trimmers, plumbers, and even plain "handy men" are in demand in my area. They can charge quite a bit.

by Anonymousreply 37October 21, 2023 10:40 PM

[Quote]You dont think there are any service workers in Carmel? Who's serving the food? Who's cleaning the toilets?

The Mexicans!

by Anonymousreply 38October 21, 2023 10:42 PM

Where do you live where you think service people wont travel for work? Most of the ones I know in LA for example live way out the fuck edge of the city. On of the security guards in my building travels 1 1/2 hours each way every day for a shitty low paid job. You do what you have to when you are on the lower end of the cash spectrum.

by Anonymousreply 39October 21, 2023 10:42 PM

Pretty bloody fabulous....but a bit toooooo stoney for me.

by Anonymousreply 40October 21, 2023 10:42 PM

Even the bedrooms are open concept.

by Anonymousreply 41October 21, 2023 10:43 PM

There are fewer Mexicans up in northern CA Kelly!

by Anonymousreply 42October 21, 2023 10:44 PM

Hard pass. Doesn't appear to be a Wawa nearby.

by Anonymousreply 43October 21, 2023 10:55 PM

It’s spectacular, one of a kind. I don’t care that it’s miles from anywhere. I’d live there year ‘round.

by Anonymousreply 44October 22, 2023 4:25 AM

I love Big Sur and have spent a lot of time there; Still, $25 million is insanely overpriced, and wildfires are just a matter of time.

R15, that's a lovely romantic vision, but you'd wake up shivering and soaked in heavy ocean mist, shrouded in fog more often than not.

by Anonymousreply 45October 22, 2023 4:47 AM

Since a small regular ranch house or not so special two bedroom house in any livable part of California is always over half a million, this house doesn’t seem that expensive in relative terms considering the vertiginous beauty of Big Sur.

by Anonymousreply 46October 22, 2023 5:06 AM

It's overpriced and was designed to be a hotel lobby. Here's what sold for $24.5 million on Highway 1 near Big Sur recently, much more value. Average prices along the California coast have quintupled in the last quarter century. The sellers are asking nearly twenty times what the property sold for in 1997, and the AD piece shilling the place indicates the property improvements were last done in the early 90s.

Holy shit it's absolutely stunning. I could move right in today and live there the rest of my life. It's even quite nicely decorated.

by Anonymousreply 48October 22, 2023 5:34 AM

I can't believe for all of that you only get two bedrooms and two bathrooms. That seems completely inappropriate. I would expect at LEAST four bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms.

I mean, 25 million! I'm going to need ROOMMATES!

by Anonymousreply 49October 22, 2023 5:37 AM

Stunning location but the house is not what I'd call historic at all. It is also very brown as R5 says, and it would do nothing for me if it wasnt for the location

by Anonymousreply 50October 22, 2023 5:37 AM

The postmates or uber eats dude is going to want a HUGE tip...

You think Domino's delivers?

by Anonymousreply 51October 22, 2023 5:38 AM

I just imagine a group of really hot guys living naked there and no neighbors to worry about or to tsk-tsk.

by Anonymousreply 52October 22, 2023 5:44 AM

Now this I would spend $25 million for...

Wasn't that the name of one of the tribes on "Survivor"?? (I'm only sort of joking)

by Anonymousreply 55October 22, 2023 6:28 AM

Also....don't carry anything small, that you value, out onto that deck (as cool as it is). Like your car fob/house keys.

by Anonymousreply 56October 22, 2023 6:46 AM

People who can purchase a $25 million dollar house for a weekender don't eat Dominos R51. They have their own chef.

by Anonymousreply 57October 22, 2023 6:51 AM

Well, if Domino's doesn't deliver, I'm not interested.

by Anonymousreply 58October 22, 2023 6:54 AM

There was no possibility anyway R58. We all know you're so grossly obese that if you were to walk around the outside gardens of the house, the cliffs would start crumbling into the sea and then the entire house, gardens and cliffs would break off and drop down...

by Anonymousreply 59October 22, 2023 6:58 AM

Gorgeous! But I would also be afraid it would fall into the sea a la House of Usher.

by Anonymousreply 60October 22, 2023 7:32 AM

You think Beyonce and Jay-Z haven’t demanded that an underling fetch them a large Domino’s, r57? Or Dump or Musk , for that matter. I bet Musk and Dump tip in autographed 8x10s of themselves.

by Anonymousreply 62October 22, 2023 7:41 AM

R62 - all of those people you have listed are bottom of the barrel trash. Who cares about any of them?

by Anonymousreply 63October 22, 2023 7:47 AM

No but but the house burst into flame and fell into the whatsit r62.

by Anonymousreply 64October 22, 2023 8:02 AM

Looks like the house used for classic Sean Cody's "Big Sur Getaway."

by Anonymousreply 65October 22, 2023 8:35 AM

R11 haha! When I saw the view of the ocean from the upstairs I was reminded of Basic Instinct!

Yeah you'd have to go outside to have sex or wank since there's no doors on the 'bedrooms'. And no privacy to have alone time or break wind without embarrassment. Sometimes walls are good.

by Anonymousreply 66October 22, 2023 9:50 AM

[Quote]you'd have to go outside to wank

Hence the choice of decking.

by Anonymousreply 67October 22, 2023 11:20 AM

[quote]it looks like a restaurant with beds

Fat whores rejoice!

by Anonymousreply 68October 22, 2023 11:28 AM

It does look like something out of a movie, though I was thinking the Mount Rushmore scenes in North by Northwest. It also looks like something Brad Pitt would buy because he likes the architecture of it, but never actually live in it

by Anonymousreply 69October 22, 2023 11:31 AM

[quot] that's a lovely romantic vision, but you'd wake up shivering and soaked in heavy ocean mist, shrouded in fog more often than not.

When you are young gay man you always want warm weather to take your cloths off, when you are old, you look for excuses to cover it up. Cold weather is your friend.

by Anonymousreply 70October 22, 2023 12:24 PM

R59, the joke is on you, I'm tall and skinny and have an enviable metabolism.

by Anonymousreply 71October 22, 2023 4:29 PM

I do not like that metal grating on the deck. I have a fear of heights and don't need evidence of how high up I am and as someone mentioned dangerous for dropping things through it.

by Anonymousreply 72October 22, 2023 4:48 PM

[quote] Parking Features: Off-Street Parking, Parking Area, Uncovered Parking

Maybe people who can afford $25,000,000 don't care if their (more than likely brand new, leased) cars are out in the elements, but all that, and it doesn't even have a garage.
