London Breed, who previously endorsed Michael Bloomberg in the 2020 election - and failed to comply with her own COVID mandates multiple times, has decided to boycott San Francisco Pride. Why? Because the San Francisco Pride Board banned SFPD from wearing their police uniforms during the festival. This is a strong pivot for Mayor Breed, who pushed for defunding SFPD last year. Sis joins the SF Fire Department, which is also boycotting in solidarity. The Board's decision was made after considering the many negative experiences that minority queer residents have had with SFPD.

I totally agree with her...it was a stupid decision to exclude LGB police and firefighters. This will be the beginning of the end of Pride as its been in the past.

I know I'm not the only one who, every time I see London Breed, I read London Broil.

^^She doesn't seem to be able to wear clothes very well...I've never seen her in anything that actually fits her body, especially as she insists on always buttoning her jackets.
| by Anonymous | reply 4 | May 28, 2022 2:42 PM |
I don't agree with her. Brutality on the part of police is the genesis of the LGBTQ+ rights movement, so it's wrong to have them march in uniform. Here in NYC, it would be a slap in the face to iconic heroines like Marsha P. Johnson who were brave and courageous enough to stand up to police brutality and initiate the "riots" that directly led to the rights we enjoy today. It's that simple.
| by Anonymous | reply 5 | May 28, 2022 2:47 PM |
why should gay people have to deal with the police at pride? they're our enemies. only people who don't know gay history could be mad at them being excluded
| by Anonymous | reply 6 | May 28, 2022 2:47 PM |
And here we go with the Marsha Johnson TROLL, once again attempting to rewrite history and put him somewhere he wasn't, doing something he didn't, Yawnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

Funny enough many of the gay men attending the parade have been to London to Breed.

They’ve been banning them for a couple of years now.
| by Anonymous | reply 10 | May 28, 2022 2:57 PM |
I hate the police and feel they are overempowered defenders of the status quo. Which in the past has included arresting and destroying the lives of gay men. With that said, like every occupation there are some good well intentioned people. I don’t think we should support the worship of law enforcement - aka, Blue Lives Matter - but don’t think it’s necessary to ban them especially as we want more gays in the police force to offset the racist, fascist straight men who make up the gulf of those who choose to become cops.
| by Anonymous | reply 11 | May 28, 2022 3:02 PM |
She has pivoted from insane left to moderate left. First supporting the ousting of the ridiculous school board leadership, and also that silly DA who launched a crime spree.
In normal parts of the world where the police aren't Nazis and the lesbian and gay community still exists, Gay Pride invites police in because they are a part of the community. There are gay and lesbian members and they work in our neighbourhoods. It's a sign of progress and reconciliation. The SF police don't have the reputation of NY or Chicago; I think they'd be a fine participant in the Gay Pride celebrations.

She is a very dumb politician, but par for the course in CA.
| by Anonymous | reply 13 | May 28, 2022 3:06 PM |
I agree with the Mayor. People need to grow the fuck up and stop being so tender to the touch. The LGBTQRSTUV cops and fireman have a right to show their pride.
| by Anonymous | reply 15 | May 28, 2022 3:08 PM |
The gay police officers and firefighters always got a big round of applause at the SF Pride I attended in the 1980’s. I don’t know why we wouldn’t support our gay brothers and sisters now.

| by Anonymous | reply 17 | May 28, 2022 3:14 PM |
It is a mistake to ban the police and firefighters from Pride parades. Yes, there is a history there, and I understand the sentiments here regarding that history, but if we are ever to progress as a movement and on a wider scale, as a society, we have to accept that change is possible and does happen. We desperately need to reform policing in this country, but exclusion is not going to achieve any change. Inclusion, however, is going to achieve change.
Learn from the radical right, folks, They don't force change externally. They invade, penetrate and normalize their goals from within. For example, you all realize that there is a reason why Focus on the Family and the rest of the lunatic religious organizations are all headquartered in Colorado Springs outside of Denver, right? It's not a coincidence that the Air Force Academy (and now, again, not incidentally the Space Cadets!) are headquartered there, and not coincidental that the Air Force is the most religious branch of the military.

Looking at r1’s link there’s a lot of “read the room” type comments. I think she did, I mean look at what’s happening to the DA and what happened to those school board members in the recall election.
| by Anonymous | reply 19 | May 28, 2022 3:27 PM |
R18 I definitely don't believe the way forward for gay rights is to allow the police to coopt it
| by Anonymous | reply 20 | May 28, 2022 3:28 PM |
Everyone else has co opted it, why not the police too?
| by Anonymous | reply 21 | May 28, 2022 3:35 PM |
Maybe they should have a float about Roy Cohn too.
| by Anonymous | reply 22 | May 28, 2022 3:37 PM |
This (R20, R22) is what the left does that is self-defeating. We work with the police to bring inclusion and respect, they do, and we still can't forgive them for their transgressions — at least not enough to allow them to march in the parade —giving them the reason to step back and say "If they're not going to accept us, why should we accept them?"
No, we don't have to kiss their asses. But when they show support, spitting on them doesn't engender positive results.
And I'll say that San Francisco is the queen of pissing on people who come along... just not fast- and far-enough for the so-far-to-the-left liberals there that they've alienated the majority of the people who otherwise supported them. See: Chesa Boudin/school board recalls.

Let’s face it, Pride is all about hating white people, hating Jews, pro-sterilization of gay children, revisionist history, and basically a communist rally. It’s one big mess. You couldn’t pay me to attend. It’s a freak show.
| by Anonymous | reply 26 | May 28, 2022 7:36 PM |
I have known several gay cops, and it was very important to them to be able to march in their uniform at proud. It represented an increase in acceptance of them within the force, and made themselves feel like they did not have to hide themselves on the job, since participation in uniform was okayed by the leadership, when previously, they were forbidden from participating in uniform.
The police are far from perfect, but telling people that they can participate if they hide who they are is not what Pride is supposed to be about.
Fuck purity tests.

Sit down and Hush yall's mouths about my girl Marsha Johnson. She was a true heroic figure of the movement. Without her standing up to the police, yall wouldn't be having no damn parade in the first place.
| by Anonymous | reply 28 | May 28, 2022 7:44 PM |
I know the history of the police and the gay community. The police in the not so recent pas hated us, preyed on us, and were no friends to us.
But times have changed. Many police departments across the US have apologized for that past. And it is now possible to be an openly gay cop.
I agree with her.
Pride is about celebrating who we are...from dykes on bikes, drag queens, Leather Daddies, soldiers. tailors, tinkers, spies, and cops!
I'm ecstatic that gay men and lesbians can live their lives openly and be cops too.
Protest how Pride has become commodified and monetized! That's a f*cking crime!
Now, I want to meet some hot cop at Pride this year, take him back to my place, and see if he'll let me use his cuffs on him!!

A cop is a cop. They have to back up the worst guy in the department. They are lowest common denominator gangsters with their own codes and unions. The gay ones won't spare a sister.

Straight cops are hotter. One of my former fuck buds is a straight married cop. He oozed alpha masculinity out of every pore on his muscled body. I'm sure his stupid wife didn't appreciate his gifts.

London Breed went into Nordstrom in Union Square and berated them for having a shitty Big Bitch department. Guess she wanted something more than a shift with a fun jacket for evening.

Newsflash: even SF gays boycott SF Pride.
Who wants to get up early on a Sunday AM, slog your way over to windy/dirty Market Street in the fog and cold, stand for hours while some random group after random group do some half-assed dance/flag routine, and then watch employees of Corporate Business A, B, C, and D, etc. who are forced to be there don rainbow gear and march for some unknown reason.
Girl just wants to sleep in on Sunday morning.

And that's why the SJW movement has and will continue to fail, R38. Remember "defund the police" and how well that worked?
Me (and the 15 House democrats who lost their seats in 2020) too.

R18, the cops aren’t co-opting anything. There’s a history of gay SF police and firefighters walking in the parade to applause. It’s not the rank and file, it’s your gay brothers and sisters.
