Ron DeSantis wins fourth GOP debate, Washington Post poll says

Anyone watching this shit?

He's been pretty much absent from the clips I've seen. I guess he "won" by shutting up and letting everyone else attack each other.

by Anonymousreply 1December 8, 2023 5:10 AM

I haven't watched the whole thing. My masochism only goes so far. From what I've seen Chris Christie won.

by Anonymousreply 2December 8, 2023 5:12 AM

Oh god no. I hope they’re not cooking up some sort of a narrative where he comes up from behind to be the front runner of the candidates who aren’t the orange turd. “Everyone wrote him off too soon” bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 3December 8, 2023 5:30 AM

They must have paid someone at WaPo to say that or they're just fucking with the Rethugs. No one could look at Go-go Heels DeSatan's painful grimace of a "smile" and see him as presidential material.

Serial killers have more warmth than Ron.

by Anonymousreply 4December 8, 2023 5:41 AM

Christie won. He'd be a good, no-nonsense POTUS but the public wants shit. Trump will drop out when even his dire histrionics can no longer garner donations for his expensive attorneys working round the clock on his 20 different lawsuits.. Then they'll have no one.

DeSantis was Spanxed into that tight suit and jacked-up on lifts so Nimrata wouldn't be taller.. He's on some kind of diet medication because he's lost a waist size. But he's a short, dumpy, unsmiling man with a dye job and an outdated hairstyle. I've said it before: Strip Club Manager. And he was grinding his teeth and twitching all through the debate.

by Anonymousreply 5December 8, 2023 6:05 AM

Ron always looks like he forgot where he buried the bodies.

by Anonymousreply 6December 8, 2023 6:34 AM

Some deaf, dumb and blind monkey determine that?

by Anonymousreply 7December 8, 2023 6:40 AM

Where is the "Ron DeSantis is big and muscular" troll?

LOOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!

by Anonymousreply 8December 8, 2023 6:44 AM

This guy, imo, doesn't present well on screen. He's twitchy, never seems to know what to do with his hands when he's not speaking, and that awkward, flickering smile is bizarre. Maybe he's a better communicator in person or something, but he's the least comfortable on stage. I watched the whole thing. He didn't win shit.

by Anonymousreply 9December 8, 2023 9:45 AM

But it was a poll not an editorial. I hope we haven't lost Wapo to the numbskull rightwing.

"The 538-Washington Post-Ipsos poll found that 30 percent of respondents who watched the Wednesday debate said that the Sunshine State governor won. Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley (R) came in second, at 23 percent, followed by former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) at 19 percent and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy last at 16 percent...

"The poll was conducted between Wednesday and Thursday, featuring responses from 763 voters who are likely to vote in Republican primaries or caucuses in 2024. The margin of sampling error was plus or minus 4 percentage points."

by Anonymousreply 10December 8, 2023 10:02 AM

I had forgotten about the debate until it was over and then I had to try to find a recording of it somewhere. I watched it and agree with the poll that DeSantis won. If his opponents are unable to deliver a knockout blow, then he's the default winner.

by Anonymousreply 11December 8, 2023 10:18 AM

We'll simply take control, as you disappear...

It makes no difference who won this debate. Trump will be the GOP nominee, even if his legal troubles get even worse. The only thing that will stop Trump from being the nominee is if his health fails.

by Anonymousreply 13December 8, 2023 10:55 AM

As long as Trump is alive and in this race, all of these people are totally irrelevant.

What's good for the Republicans is they will have an official runner-up as back-up if Trump falters. The Democrats blindly insist on having only Biden with no contest, and no runner-up to take the reins if he becomes incapacitated.

by Anonymousreply 15December 8, 2023 11:00 AM

Trump is not going to falter. His life now depends on winning and making all the court cases go away. There is nothing he could do, even being convicted that would lose him a single MAGA vote. He's 30 points ahead of all the douche bags that were in that debate. The only chance they have is if he has a heart attack or strokes out. I am personally rooting for a stroke where he's alive but in diapers the rest of his life.

They are all running for VP or fame.

I don't understand why people are suspicious of this poll. First, it's among registered *Republicans* who are likely to vote in the GOP primaries, not a representative sample reflecting party affiliations at correct proportions. It's pretty remarkable IMO that 19% thought Christie won considering his strategy was essentially to challenge MAGATs' notions that Trump is competent or worthy of worship. Second, IPSOS is a good polling organization, unlike a Rasmussen-type of outfit.

What do you mean? We have the talented Kamala Harris, who did such a good job securing the border, her only assignment. We have no more problems there, and it's all because of her leadership.

"Are you a robot?" would be a perfect question to ask DeSantis at the next debate. Yes, there are two more.😒

by Anonymousreply 23December 8, 2023 2:28 PM

After the recent two man debate a group of gop who had watched the debate were asked who won——of course at DL it was a landslide loss for desantis. But those voters really liked desantis a lot. And of course they thought he had won.

But when asked who they would vote for it looked like as many as 90% of the hands were for trump.

Trump carried the gop day once again.

by Anonymousreply 25December 8, 2023 3:27 PM

Meanwhile his latest fundraiser had to be cancelled due to a complete lack of interest by his donors. Here's enough of the article to explain. I won't post the link as it's to Bloomberg which is behind a pay wall.

-----------

The super political action committee backing Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ presidential bid canceled a donor event this week due to a lack of interest from invitees, according to people familiar with the matter, the latest sign of the fresh tumult surrounding his 2024 run.

The group, Never Back Down, planned to hold a luncheon ahead of the fourth Republican primary debate in Tuscaloosa, Alabama — the site of the forum — according to the people who requested anonymity to discuss the cancellation. About 3,000 people were invited to purchase tickets.

“Winning” a Republican debate without the frontrunner is like a booby prize for this idiot.

by Anonymousreply 29December 8, 2023 5:05 PM

[quote] Christie won. He'd be a good, no-nonsense POTUS but the public wants shit.

He was Trump before Trump. He closed down a goddamn bridge for apolitical retaliation. His press conferences turned into Jerry Springer sideshows with him screaming at reporters calling them stupid to their faces like a mob boss.

He can’t. He can only be pardoned from federal cases, not state.

It’s experience and voter recognition for the future it’s a tryout in case trump has to drop out it’s an audition for the VP slot.

It’s almost never wasted time or effort.

by Anonymousreply 32December 8, 2023 5:08 PM

There have been 3 previous GOP debates?! They're not making much of a ripple, are they?

by Anonymousreply 33December 8, 2023 5:16 PM

Honestly, I think there should be a new rule.

EVERY voter should be required to watch that entire debate. And ANYONE who says DeSantis or Ramaswamy "won" the debate loses all voting privileges for a period of not less than 10 years.

by Anonymousreply 34December 9, 2023 1:18 AM

Well, you have to make allowances - New Jersey, you know. A lot like Queens?

by Anonymousreply 35December 9, 2023 2:22 AM

Yes, from everything I heard, Christie won. Mainly for being able to be honest. He's still a sleazebag, but next to the others, at least he's saying what non-crazy people are thinking.

by Anonymousreply 36December 9, 2023 3:00 AM

Only Dems who are going to vote Dem regardless think that Christie won this. The reality is that it's going to be Trump for the GOP nomination and if not, very likely DeSatan.

by Anonymousreply 37December 9, 2023 3:21 AM

[QUOTE]Only Dems who are going to vote Dem regardless think that Christie won this.

How and why did you get to the end of the thread and reach *this* conclusion? Or any others like George Conway, Rick Wilson, et. al.?

What is going on with his puffy face? Fillers?

Trump will only debate Biden because he knows he can shout him down and confuse him. He will debate no other candidate because he will not allow himself to be publicly humiliated.

by Anonymousreply 42December 9, 2023 4:58 AM

#30, 'polite' doesn't work anymore. You need someone who can read Gaetz, Greene, Johnson, Comer, FOX News, etc. to filth. Christie is smart and ballsy. I think it's him that Trump is most scared to appear beside.

Yes, we know Trump is going to be the candidate. He's invited to the debates like everyone else. But that doesn't mean he'll go the distance. He doesn't seem to want the job; he just wants donations and he wants to avoid convictions.

Can't somebody - Jack? - offer Trump a plea deal if he agrees to never run for any office?

Although if Trump promises not to do something, it's practically guaranteed he'll do it, and then see what your next move is.

I always think about him loving to tell that story at his rallies, "You knew I was a snake when you took me in." Or defying the Stones' request that he stop playing their song, "You can't always get what you want".

He's P. T. Barnum on steroids - didn't Barnum say that it was impossible to underestimate the average person's intelligence?

Trump or Biden would be the two dumbest candidates in history if they entered debates that were not required like the gop debates or the non existent dem debates. Nothing to gain lots to loose,

Like wagering $1 million on the chance to gain $10.

by Anonymousreply 46December 9, 2023 10:07 AM

[quote]Trump or Biden would be the two dumbest candidates in history if they entered debates that were not required like the gop debates or the non existent dem debates. Nothing to gain lots to lose.

That's why the RNC and DNC should require a candidate to participate in all debates as a condition for receiving the nomination.
