Sometimes it's love, and sometimes it's greater security: career, and/or financial. There's also a power in being the most attractive person in a pair (in this case overwhelmingly so). I don't know much about Welch's first and fourth marraiges, but her second and third (Weinman) husbands were producers. The second was instrumental in her early success.
