Opinions on Kansas City, Dataloungers?

I'd say it's gay friendly. I'll be 50 this year, and most of my life all of my friends have been gay, or at least gay friendly, and hasn't been an issue. There used to be several fun gay bars, but much like everywhere else, that has gone away.

I don't encounter many Trump supporters, although they do exist. I live in the city, so I'm somewhat insulated from all of that, but there are a surprising number of black and Hispanic Trump supporters in my area.

Best museum is Nelson Atkins. I've traveled a fair amount, and would say it stands up against any major museum. They have an excellent collection, and their little cafeteria/restaurant is quite charming. The Kemper Museum of Modern Art is fun, but very small. And yes, it is that Kemper, as in Ellie Kemper's family. Their restaurant is probably better than the Nelson's. The World War 1 museum is also quite good. Side note on that part, decades ago, that area, Liberty Memorial used to a well known gay hook-up spot in the evening.

There is a decent amount of live music available, although again, less than there used to be. And I haven't been out and about in a while. KC has a decent history related to Jazz, and remains somewhat of a mainstay. There's a somewhat little known place called the Mutual Musicians Foundation around 18th and Vine (the Jass district). It's an after hours club that opened in the 1930s, and technically a private club, so they have some exemptions that normal clubs do not have, but somehow open to the public. It doesn't open until after midnight or 1am, and then keeps going for hours. It's pretty cool, but that area is not the safest neighborhood in the area.

The restaurants are good. The Plaza area, downtown, parts of Leawood have the best selections for dining out, although there are random local places that are quite good around the metro. Bar b q is obviously a thing here. Everyone has their favorites. Mine is Gates (be prepared to be intimidated when you go in there, you are expected to be on point and ready with your order. It takes a bit to get used to.

I've lived all over the metro, so am well acquainted with all the various neighborhoods/suburbs, etc. I've been in the city of KCMO more than 10 years, and am at a point where I yearn for the suburbs or a more small town existence.

If you want info on all the different areas, let me know. And there is a world of difference between Kansas City, KS (Wyandotte County) and Kansas City, MO (Jackson County). I have no idea why, but it's a whole other can of worms over there. That said, there are parts on the KS side (Johnson County and beyond) that are perfectly fine, although very suburban.
