No facelift. All lighting and makeup The original concept was that the show would take a hiatus between the first and second episode and Bea would actually have a facelift. Her surgeon said she wasn't ready and refused so they went with lighting and makeup. Interesting to believe that a surgeon would tell a client that she needed a few years before he would work with her.

Bea looked so different after the work she had done prior to GG that it didn't always register in my brain that Dorothy and Maude were one and the same. She really looked like a different person, and sounded like one, too, to be honest.

To me, Bea was Maude, and the essence of all her appearances in the 70s and early 80s.

I loved Maude. It was my favorite show as a kid
